Cookie Crisp *used* to be really good, through the 80s and 90s anyway, but then somewhere in the early 2000s it changed entirely. And i wondered about this for years until i found out 'why'. Obviously the recipe had changed, but originally it was Ralston that made the cereal.
The bland new recipe is of course, "less unhealthy", i suppose certain ingredients change throughout the food industry or cheaper options become available. They know as well as we do though. We don't eat junk food for our health. So... if it ain't broke. They'll still fix it until it is.

Semi gross story about flintstone push-ups. In 91 or so after a lot of partying I was hungry and living in a small town before taco bell moved in the grocery store was the only option. My buddy stopped to we could run in and I got mesmerized by the Flintstones so I bought them. It wasn't until we got in the car I realized I had no way to keep them cold so I made the executive decision to eat all of them on the ride.
I don't remember if I did eat the whole box but knowing me at the time I did. I do however remember the diarrhea I had shortly after. Let's just say if you eat too many of them it will look like you dumped a couple of gallons of rainbow sherbet in your toilet.

I think it’s the fault of those spoilsports who go out of their way to make food “healthy” by “improving” it - but actually ruin it by removing most of the sugar content from anything sweet and the fat content from any item that is not sweet - my own enjoyment of food in general, not just crisps and snacks, has been ruined by the manufacturers taking out all the ingredients that make it worth eating, in the belief that it’s “unhealthy” and replacing it with something that makes it taste horrible - the whole joy of eating a pork pie was all that aspic - and the Melton Mowbray pork pie, named after the Lincolnshire town was supposedly the best pork pie in existence - today, pork pies are often marketed as “Melton Mowbray pork pies” - but some spoilsports have decided that all traces of aspic should be removed - so Melton Mowbray pork pies aren’t that much different from standard ones - but the question is - can you still get them made properly in Melton Mowbray? Never been, so I can’t argue!
Also, who in the UK decided that a pork sausage in a dry bun can be sold as a “hot dog?”. No - that’s a pork sausage in a dry bun - a hot dog is what we here in the UK call a frankfurter sausage in a buttered bun, with onions, mustard and relish (the onions, mustard and relish are optional) - as for a “chip butty”, the name implies that the bread is buttered - not margarined - and definitely not served in a couple of slices of dry bread or a dry bun - that’s “chips in bread” or “chips in a bun”.
Even sandwiches from the shops don’t always have butter or margarine on them! On my last train journey to Middlesbrough, I bought a sandwich on the train up - I didn’t think to ask if the “butter” was butter or margarine - turned out to be dry!
Can’t even get skin on chicken and crackling on pork at most Somerset carveries - as for cooked breakfasts even at “greasy spoons” - nothing is fried - it’s usually done on a griddle - no such thing as a fried egg, either!

I hate it when a good product is ruined by switching to cheaper ingredients. For example, my favorite potato chips were make by Mikesell's, in Dayton, Ohio. They were sliced very thin, and cooked in peanut oil. I found some a couple years ago t a Rural King store, and they tasted like al other brands. Then I discovered that they used everything except used motor oil to cook them. I loved Kahn's Pepperloaf. Kahn's was bought out by the company that owns 'Brian's (Flavor of the South). They dropped the Kahn's version, and kept their version that had chunks of hat the size of my thumb. It was inedible,

@@BabbleTop The cheapening and 'improving' food has slowly turn eating from a joy, to a chore. Even raw ingredients are lower quality, including new varieties of vegetables that are bred to be easier to harvest, and have longer shelf lives. Instead, we get get things with very little taste. I remember when the 'Big Boy' tomatoes first hit the market. A slice of one was bigger than a slice of bread, but it had much less flavor. Look at the price of San Marzano tomatoes, if you can even find them. These are used to make the best Italian tomato sauces. Produce dealers tell me, Romano are just as good. There is no comparison. I used to grow my own, when I lived up North. The soil here isn't good enough. I would wash them, slice the top and bottom off, the vertically slice them into quarters. I would use them in soup or chili that way. The sins would fall off when they were fully cooked. I had someone who swore that he hated chili come back for a third bowl. I slow cooked it for six to eight hours. 😀
