Thank you for all the information and comparisons to legit media. As a vollector first reseller second this is invaluable knowledge. Your energy is fantastic too!
I’m here to help the legitimate collector. Nothing worse than getting your hopes up and receiving a bootleg. These sellers make a living off of the people lacking knowledge. I feel bad for the older people who don’t know any better or just the novice trying to buy their favorite movie. You think you’re getting the real deal. What you get is $2 worth of printed paper or a burnt disk with a terrible label. Fools some. Thanks for the view and the comment. Glad it helps.
I throw the discs into my computer and do a scan of the disc. I have run into a handful of counterfeit videos. So far, every counterfeit disc I have had didn't have any copy protection.
I bought a little shop of horrors blu ray from CeX, it looks legit (from the packaging, no color bleeding, no poor print quality, pretty crisp) but I’m not entirely sure about the disc. It feels soft, like a legit disc, but it’s very slightly yellow. I’m not sure if it’s disc rot, (didn’t look like it when I first watched it) but I compared it with an Xbox one game (probably not a rly good way of checking) and the Xbox game was a slightly more blue-ish color.
I don’t own that particular version. I have the U.S. dvd and Blu-ray, but usually yellowing of a disc is disc rot and burnt copies are more likely to get this rot. I have done some research on this and it’s kind of sad because I transferred all my (kids growing up videos) from VHS to dvd and they are beginning to also change color. Some are also coming apart. They get these strange bluish circles and I guess that’s the glue separating from the plastic? I still have the old VHS tapes. Just not the technology any more to turn them into DVDs anymore. I just don’t want to invest into another player and converter box.
Since you don’t flip you should always open it when you get it. Are used to be like you and never open stuff and I buy a lot of pre-owned stuff only to find a year down the road that it was either bootleg or scratched or non-playable and then have no recourse now I open everything.
Problem is I like to open live on camera for legit reaction on film. So I might have 30 packages piled up for a few weeks until I have time to open them. Never mind actually watch them. I got lucky somewhat because I wanted to actually watch this title (Makers of Police Academy) I figured I had a rough week I need a goodbye laugh. Guess the laugh was on me but for $10? Made for a good informative video. I’m sure this happens a lot. Especially with new collectors and older people just buying for gifts. Can’t stand people who legitimately thrive on ripping people off. Makes me wonder if the seller actually knew or am I the first to catch them? I’ll never know
I buy a bunch of Danny Kaye DVDs on eBay that were recorded off of TV and the quality was horrible and some discs didn't even play the other ones keep freezing but these copies had no box and no artwork on disc your dvds like much better 📀😵💫
We ask for official releases. It’s sad that sometimes we have to either settle or receive bootlegs. Just because we love the classics so much. Yea with me.. no box, no artwork, no purchase. I like to watch classic, but I also am a big fan of the artwork. Media is my Art museum. I could spend a day looking at movie posters. I don’t think I could do that at a art museum 😂
@@meltingmovies1945 yes it would have been great to have artwork on the discs and to have a box made with artwork but they didn't give these copies that much effort
I have a Sleepy Hollow that I suspect is fake. It does not have the signs you described but it throws up a ‘copyright violation’ error if my 4K player is connected to the internet. When disconnected it almost always plays but there was one time it still threw up the error. However, I do see 70-90 Mbps which seems to indicate this is a 4K disc. Any thoughts?
I have a Sony 4K player that seems to pick and choose its 4K titles to play but plays anything on Blu-ray or dvd. It might just be the player. I’ve sat down with the wife many time with the 4K in. Just to transfer over to Blu-ray because of the same warning or it will play for like 20 minutes and then stop. Forcing me to put in the Blu-ray and find our spot. 4K is still a mystery to me. I think we are all a bit spoiled. Remember how eye popping dvd was after vhs? That’s what I say to myself every time I have to get up and switch disks. Might be just your player.
Possibility? I’ve been doing more research and talking to Facebook groups. A lot of bootleg anime has that bronze/gold/blackish look. I don’t know if this is an Anime title, but that’s what I got so far. Mostly the blackish ones are a definite.
I have come upon some cheaply made real stuff. I can tell the real bad burn stuff. It’s so obvious by now. I am going to do another video soon because there is a EBay seller that is selling nothing but bootlegs, but he is stating “Modified” yea? Bootlegger. It’s real bad because he’s getting top dollar
@@meltingmovies1945 I agree. You should name and shame them. It make us collectors have to deal with shady crap trying to buy legitimate copies. I get so frustrated when I get bootleg media. Having to return it and buy it again is a pain.
seller:walai.lipma this is the guy. Check him out on EBay. They are selling titles that are out of print and going for a ton. They are calling them “Mod” yea “Mod” means straight up burnt bootleg with a real nice reproduction cover.
I got downtonabbey: New era movie which 4k and bluray have literally no difference even if I sit up right in front of the screen(Maybe I can force myself 0.0001%better). I have Onn 50" 4KTV and sony ux700(or sthg) 4k player.Im very sensitive and can pickup slightest difference usually. BUT I was playing downtonabbey series bluray and could see some difference immediately. Quality is good just not as crisp as the bluray that came with the 4k movie& Has all the bonus clips BUT the letters in mainpage and actor name that shows while video is playing(in the beginning of movie) it will look like 3D-doublely kinda thing.Do you think I may have a bootleg on the series?
I mean with the NewEra I thought is my 50" TV too small compared to 70" to pickup difference between 4K vs 1080p ? Or is my player doing a great job upscaling ? .... But then when I played the Bluray series(the season1-6) I noticed difference. I wonder if it is possible the NewEra bluray can be made better than regular blurays Or my series version is fake. Thanks!
You have to be careful with purchasing series. Especially from EBay. If they are from over seas or it says. Selling from multiple locations. That means over seas. They are lying to us. The new Blu-ray upscaling is great. I like the colors and quality of the Blu-ray over the 4K. I watched M3GAN yesterday twice. On a 4K TV. I actually thought the Blu-ray was brighter and more enjoyable. The 4K was very clean but dark in some parts of the movie. I’m sticking with my Blu-rays and DVDs with the upscaling are pretty good also. Even on a 1080P TV.
I just recently got a blu ray disc off ebay for noragami aragoto limited edition, noticied the dvd disc is silver but the blu ray disc is greyish. Is this a fake blu ray disc that the seller sold me?
That’s a possibility. I ordered a 2 pack Dvd/ Blu-ray combo of “A river’s edge” The dvd was real, but the one that was worth more (the Blu-ray) was fake. Silverish on the outer and darkens going into the center. Almost a grayish black. Look at other sellers on EBays photos. If you can’t get a picture there. Check Google. A lot of flippers sell just the disks.
@meltingmovies1945 Thanks for the info, I'll try that. I asked the seller straight up about it, and he showed me a picture of his purchase, but he said it was under his father's name, which is why the name didn't match his.

This guy has all the movies everyone is hunting for. BIG RED FLAG complete fake. I have matched some of them up to the originals.
If the disc is black… send it back!
