- Do you recall my 2023 new year's resolution video to buy more plants? I must say that I have never been more successful with a new year's resolution than this one. It is almost December and I'm still going strong!
Or have I absolutely lost my mind??? It's a fine line...
With the cooler weather in Arizona brings many plant events and nursery trips that are sure to empty the wallet... and I am living proof of that. In the past month we had the DBG Fall Plant Sale, the CACSS Mega Silent Auction, a trip to Arizona Cactus Sales to "buy pumice", a drive down to Tucson to record at Plants for the Southwest with a drop-in at Bach's Cactus Nursery on the way home. It's too late, the damage is done.

The Mam. crucigera looks like a $300 plant, so that was a bidding coup. The Astrophytum clump in its new pot is absolutely awesome.🙀
"Bidding coup" 😂😂😂 love that! That Astro clump... Every time I see it stand out on my table I'm just 🤤
Don’t feel bad about what you spend on a plant that you really love! We are ALL guilty of spending ‘too much’ on specimens. But honestly, if it makes you happy~ (At least, that’s what I tell myself) lol.
This is our hobby, interest and love. After all the videos you’ve done and places you’ve been to that have amazing plants, I’m amazed you haven’t spent MUCH MORE! Thank you for your time and effort in these videos - it’s helped me to plan my trip to Arizona!
Omg Tara! Thank you for being so supportive and understanding. I'm compelled to share prices but at the same time I'm kind of weary of what people will think of my spending habits. But so far, all the folks here totally get it, whew! I can't wait until you see all the nurseries in Arizona with your own eyes!
Girl! What a haul!! Never feel like you need to justify buying what gives you joy!
I like the way you think! I was afraid I would be judged for spending so much money... but everyone has been so supportive because you all know these plants bring us so much joy.
I went to Arizona Cactus Sales from Las Vegas, NV because of your videos! You are awesome and I loved the nursery! ❤❤
Ahhhh you're probably one of the people that contributed to the gift that I got! Every time I'm there Ty tells me that more people have visited the nursery who mention my RUclips channel, which just blows my mind every. single. time. I'm so glad you enjoyed the nursery!
Wow, what an incredible cactus collection! Each one seems to have its own unique personality. It's amazing how diverse and stunning these desert plants can be. This video is a treasure trove of inspiration for fellow cactus enthusiasts like me. Truly a beautiful sight to behold!
Awwwww thank you so much for your kind words! The incredible variation and diversity of cactus and succulents is really what makes it so fascinating and addictive. Even two plants of the exact same species can vary so much in look that I need to have both 😂😂😂 Happy growing, my friend!
Oooh, good choices! I totally get your 300 bid, and even if you overpaid in comparison to what the other clump went for, I feel like it's still a great price for what you got. That's a really rare mature clump, truly. Also very much in love with the tall pot for your mirabilis.
Thank you for the support 🙏 I need it after what I did! 😂💚
That last Astrophytum clump is phenomenal! It does look like it is grafted which explains all the pupping. But it came with a talavera pot which is not cheap. So maybe it is a reasonable price after all. As long as Cookie still gets all the good food, treats and medication, if you’re I’m happy for you as well. 😁 And it is a treat to see all those beautiful pots, too.
I'm so glad you enjoyed seeing me completely lose my mind, Ana! 😂😂😂 Every year when the weather cools down in Phoenix and all the various plants sales and events occur, my back account suffers lololol. Cookie's important staples are still intact, as long as that's good then we're all good 😊
You know Jenny, there is a mighty fine line between sanity and insanity - which I cross on occasion at auctions. Thankfully, I pull myself back - until the next crossover 😉
That astrophytum clump is incredible.
It is nice to see AZ sun in your videos as I look out my windows and see snowflakes ❄️ .
🤣😂🤣😂 a very, very fine line. Sometimes it's hard to tell which side of the line we're on. Last night I was in the yard and had to come in for my ski jacket because it was 49F 😂😂😂
@cookiescacti I did see one day last week we were 28 and you were 41 at 8 am. Now, that it getting close. Warm for me; cold for you.
What do you do differently with your outdoor cacti during the winter? Have you done a video on that topic?
I don't change much except decrease # of waterings. I keep all my cacti/succulents/snake plants inside year round due to weather. It was -5 windchill this morning with no sun. Summer we have too much rain and not enough warmth to have these kinds of plants outdoors.
You have the most wonderful pots & your new additions are no exception! I’m so happy you had such a fun blowout buying all these gorgeous cacti (also very jealous 😂😂). Love them all, you have an awesome collection & I especially love the one you purchased for $300 & also the astrophytum, it looks magnificent in the new pot 👏👏 Greetings from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me this comment, Heather! Hello from Arizona! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video of me being financially very irresponsible LOLOLOL! I had fun and I'm so glad I was able to share the fun with you all!
Great haul! I did wonder whether that big Astro was grafted, as I’ve never seen them pup like that on their own roots. What an amazing plant! ❤
Thank you so much! You are on the money guessing it is grafted!
YES I’ve been waiting for this one!! Can’t wait to see all the goodies you have picked up!!
They are all amazing, but that last astrophytum clump is unreal, and it looks so great in that scalloped pot. Congrats on keeping up with your New Year’s resolution!
I just realized it's probably more appropriate to call it Old Year's Resolution 😂😂😂 I hope this haul video was worth the wait!
LOVE those pots you got, all of them are amazing! You got some wonderful plants for sure. I understand spending money on stuff you love. My problem is that I have too many hobbies- Plants. Horses. Grandkids. 😂
You understand the $$$ pit, Lori! 😂😂😂 But that's what hobbies are for!
I've spent a lot of thanksgivings alone too. This last thanksgiving I spent the afternoon trying to get my stove to work. A couple of the burners went out. Then I spent christmas being ill with various viral respiratory infections. I'm ready for a holiday. I agree that Astrophytum clump is on a graft.
Oh no!! I hope you're feeling a lot better by now. I've spent many, many holidays alone. Now that my parents are local, that's no longer the case.
Thanks for sharing, 1300 likes worthy.
The tall pot and Ortegocactus are the best!
Omg that's such a cool way to put it - "1300 likes worthy". When I won the bid on the crucigera and then wondered what in the world I had done, one of the guys running the auction said that if each look at the plant puts a smile on my face is worth $1, I'll have $300 worth of smiles in no time.
$1000 on plants and supplies..thats a blessing..i spend$$ like this for rent and utilities...the planters are awesome!
💯💯💯 it is an absolute blessing, Michelle! It's wonderful to be able to enjoy these treasures after decades of hard work and I'm grateful everyday 🙏🙏🙏
What a really enjoyable video some great plants love the pots the plants look well in the new homes
Thank you so much, William! I've definitely been slowing down on buying plants after going nuts lol. (Also space is a problem)
Chunky plant squeezing 😆
I love your videos!
Hehehehe I can't help but squeeze all the chonk plants 😁
YES!!!! You got that leopard face pot!!!! 😹😹😹
Ohh it's a leopard!! 🐆 I had to! (For Cookie's sake lol)
that huge Astrophytum asterias looks so good in that new pot with the little myriostigma that you grew from seed as a companion. my tiny little garden needs more big moms. lol
LOL! 😆 😂 wow!!!!!! I should count up all I have bought this year too. I imagine I am close to you!
😂😂😂 this is what I love about this community, we all understand!!
Обожаю ваш канал и ваших питомцев.Благодарю за ваш труд. Алла
Thank you so much, Alla! I'm so glad you enjoyed this one. I really need to take a break from buying plants... For my wallet's sake at the very least!
Wow!❤ Love the astro and ariocarpus communal pots!!!😅👏👏
I think I'm on a communal pot kick! 💚💚💚
@@cookiescacti Yes, communal pots are super fun! I have made several from lithops and euphorbias so far.
The cat on that pot is called a Jaguar. They are much thicker in the body, and different face shape from a cheetah. Hope this helps. The pots are lovely.
Thank you so much for helping me with this! I appreciate it! Now I'm waiting for the right plant to speak to the Jaguar pot.
Great video
Gorgeous pots and interesting plants
Love the re potted Ariocarpjs and Astrophytum.
Yay! I'm glad you like what I did with the pots! 💚💚💚
Amazing plants and pots! I really enjoyed this video.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, Nancy! Every time it gets cooler my wallet gets lighter 😂😂😂
Cada cacto lindo e vasos bem organizados, parabéns 😘👏👏👏

Very happy to see you rewarded for showcasing these local nurseries
I still can't believe he gifted me the plant!
So beautiful 😍
Thank you so much!
I fully support the $300 bid! Also, I love that you were Bidder 27 - It's my favourite number!
Thank you for the support!! 🙏💚🙏💚 So cool that I got the bidder number that's your favorite!
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSS GIRL, YASSSSSSSSS!!!!!! congratulations on all your new, fabulous goodies! thank you so much for sharing all your beautiful, beautiful plants and pottery 🌵 ❤ Your astro cluster is incredible; such an amazzzzzzzzzing specimen 👏👏👏
That thing was a grand finale to the video
Thank you thank you thank you my friend!! I have a serious problem! 😂😂😂 💚💚💚
I love your channel it is awesome! I was asking for this. Thank you
I hope it was with the wait, Mike! Thanks for suggesting this video!
You went for it and you got it! All beautiful and worth staring at for the rest of your life!
😁😁😁 Dove in head first! I'm using the "we only live one life" excuse
Wow love those ariocarpus! I’d personally never spent that much money on plants, but that’s more because I’m a student and need the money for other stuff right now. (I probably will in the future when I’m finally making money lol) I did do a haul last month for over 100 euros (including pots) and that was a lot for me haha 😅👌
Ohhh a 100 euro haul sounds amazing! I'm usually very financially conscious with my general spending but something happens to my brain when it comes to cactus and succulents. I just don't understand it 😂😂😂
Люблю Ваши видео.. Интересно.Люблю кактусы. Привет из России! ❤❤❤
Hello from Arizona! I'm so glad you enjoy my cactus videos! I love this little community that we've built of cactus lovers all around the world 💚
Thank you , love your videos, love your new plants and pots.
I'm so glad you enjoy these videos! It's so much fun sharing all this plant related stuff with you all 💚
I try not to buy plants for over $100 anymore because if they die, I will be even more devastated. I’m also not into expensive pots because I can use that money for more plants (your picks were nice though). The thelocactus looks amazing and your repots came out great too!
I get so nervous on all the plants that I pay more than $50.... It's a huge $ risk for sure.
I cant say i blame ya, some of those plants are SO COOL
Thank you for the emotional support 😁💚
This summer I have spent around 500$ in Turbinicarpus and seeds mostly. I feel you.
Oh thank goodness you understand 😁
The Echinocereus Knippelianus gets rather large when grafted and produce a lot off offsets. I have some that are at 6 inches dia and growing
Wow cool! I rarely see large plants
Cool completely inermis tephro!
Yeah! A stack of green-gray eggs!
Those pots are wonderful. I want some. What was His name. I remember the Mark, but I missed the Last name.
I should add the info to my video description. It's Mark Muradian. I'm so glad you like them!
wicked astrophytum
I couldn't say no!
I’m imagining a ponytail palm in the tall container. 😜
then the pot is worth more than the plant XD
where as a welwitchia that sized is far more
Hehehehehe, so many options of plant + pot (the most fun part)
The crazy part is that I got the Welly for $40 from a local collector! $40 for a Welly!!
@@cookiescacti insane theyre like 300 here if you can even find one
@@claudekim7876 wow! But I get the pricing to match the rarity to find one. They're usually $100 at this size around here.
💃
🎉🎉🎉
Could that mammillaria with the upward pointing spines be a mammillaria matudae ?
That's an interesting comment, the matudae has some similarities to the crucigera complex in look and perhaps in flower as well. I just hope it's not matudae because I can find them at Home Depot 😬
Jenny, where did you get that tall square pot? I love it! (NVM you said it just now 😅)
Ha! You got it 😊 Mark Muradian
If I could sell my plants at your purchase prices I would be a millionaire.
You can! You're basically a millionaire already 😁
Wow spice tree Cantu's life on said meetings 🏜like in talk to people love natural beauty netflix child happy see natural 🥰🥰👍
