  • Now that master grower, Cliff, has shown us the easy tips & tricks to getting your plant ready for the CACSS show, let's go through which plants I am planning to exhibit in the show this year. I'll show you the five plants I have in mind and show you how I filled out the exhibitor forms for each plant. I'll also touch on some of the rules of the show. If this is your first time exhibiting a plant at the CACSS show please read the "Show & Sale Rules and Guidelines" in the link below so there aren't any unexpected surprises.
It is not too late to register as an exhibitor for the show! You can register on the plant drop-off day on May 15, 2024. Do budget some time to fill out the plant forms when you're there. See the link below to the "Plant Lists, Categories and Divisions" to determine the Section/Class/Division for your plants. There will be volunteers there to help with the plant identification process as well.
By the way, both CACSS members and members of the Tucson Cactus & Succulent Society are eligible to show plants at the CACSS show.
    See you at the show!

I do bonsai and many times when you have dead branches we Jin them, or peel back the bark and expose the lighter coloured dead wood to contrast between the green foliage and the healthy living bark. This imitates age in trees in nature. Not sure if that helps for your show but just a thought. Thanks for the content.

Thank you for sharing! I imagine this technique works for bonsai or tree-like succulents, but does it apply to cactus?

@@cookiescacti I would imagine if you're going for an older looking cactus look you could leave parts of it that have grown and died, not sure if that would be aesthetic or not. Sorry never done it to a cactus.

Hehehe, Cookie and her obsession with the car and the garage. I love the blue inermis too. Turns out the ants had taken residence on the Ferocactus and I didn't want to bother them so I swapped out the Ferocactus for an Astropytum instead. Maybe next year!
