    Ceiling is looking great, whilst hard work very much the right decision!

    I liked the pvc ceiling James--but this is lovely, too. I like the look of tongue and groove boards--traditional look with a modern material. Jim came at just the right time--nice not to have to do it all by yourself--and it was lovely of him to lend a hand. I haven't heard anyone say "cattywumpus" since I moved to the UK, and it made me smile.

    I know I commented suggesting you use a T& G but if I say it myself that's far better definitely the right decision it looks much better and seems to be a much better material to work with. Hey, just a thought instead of dumping or giving away the white pvc could you not re-purpose it at some point and use it to line out the insides of you cupboards or something. It would make them easier to clean and be much lighter looking.

    That t&g effect really looks the dogs James. Right call I guess as it just looks spot on. Jim seems like a legend too. If I knew anything about diy I’d be more than happy to come and help out but I’d be as helpful as an Alan comment 😂. Maybe as a dogs body or tea maker but that’s my limit.

    Having the lines the length of the boat will make the boat look even larger. Good job. Glad you had some help. Too bad about your cupboard, but you already seem to have a solution in hand. All the best from Missouri.

    Careful with coloured lights for main lighting.... They're often not great for your usual light.
    Ultimately I went with warm-white dimmable, and I'll put RGB under gunnel.
    But the joy of narrow boats is that everyone makes their own decisions which will be right for them 😎

  • @Transit_Biker
    @Transit_Biker 2 месяца назад

    I’m glad you switched out the ceiling system for something a bit more practical and easy to work with. It really sucks about the galley cabinet build getting damaged. What I would recommend is build the framing out from the wall and up from the floor first, and then put the face on so if you bump it, it won’t crack or even move at all. Currently the facia is standing freely not attached to anything that could support it from a bump. I did try to warn you about this, but perhaps you did not read the comment. I have never fitted out a boat so you know more than I do about that, but there is a method to building out cabinets and such to where they are sturdy and predictable in how they handle things being placed on them and being bumped by people and objects. Another recommendation I would make for any future build outs using such facia boards would be to leave the facia for the very last thing that is applied. Not only would this be easier to actually apply to the framework, but it will also be easier to hold in place for fiberglass and reinforcing on the curves. In any case, I’m glad you had some help when you were swapping the ceiling out and hope to see some more good progress soon.

    Hi James. Good decision to ditch the pvc, The T&G effect will, with the right colour choice, modernise the interior and look much smarter. I did wonder if you could have fitted the mdf a few inches off centre so the leds fit in the centre of a plank rather than overlapping two planks. I don't know how broad the side trims were planned to be in your mind and if they were to be wide enough to cover the gap. Just a thought, but as you have already cut the led holes and fitted the board you might want to ignore it!🤣. All the best.

  • @mrkgrav

    t&g ceiling is going to look very smart when complete, regarding the pvc sheets, could you not use it as a shower liner to save you some money when you get there?

    Instead of using the props like acros, would it be just as well to put the props horizontally at high level between the walls, and slide the panel over them . 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Just curious. Could you not get the tongue and groove looking ply? IBS V-Grooved 2400 x 1200 x 12mm Untreated Ply Lining. Quite a lot of campervan builders use this for lining their vans as it's very thin and flexible. Hmm bit dear though over a hundred dollars a sheet.

  • @dircia7754

    The new ceiling choice is perfect. But I am sorry your galley counter cracked. I really thought it would crack before long, the wood was just too thin and the support was not enough. Then fiberglass put too much pressure on the weakest point. I understand you want to be creative but I think cabinets made for narrow boats or for caravans we be the logical choice.
