A bomber is a combat aircraft designed to attack ground and naval targets by dropping air-to-ground weaponry (such as bombs), launching torpedoes, or deploying air-launched cruise missiles. .
There are two major classifications of bomber, strategic, and tactical. Strategic bombing is done by heavy bombers primarily designed for long-range bombing missions against strategic targets to diminish the enemy's ability to wage war by limiting access to resources through crippling infrastructure or reducing industrial output. Whilst tactical bombing is aimed at countering enemy military activity and in supporting offensive operations, and is typically assigned to smaller aircraft operating at shorter ranges, typically near the troops on the ground or against enemy shipping.

@@nickkorkodylas5005 it’s actually because NATO has a certain way of naming things, for bombers it always starts with a B like the bear or in this case the blackjack, fighters start with a f, like the flanker and fulcrum. This is to keep things consistent so even if you don’t know the name if someone says bear you know it’s a bomber and if someone says flanker you know it’s a fighter.

Totally different bombers. In Russia, the real heavy bomber still is the Tu-22M3 Backfire, today Tu-22M3M. The Tu-95MS and MSM are cruise missile carriers (actually a Tu142MK modified for long range aviation). The Tu160 is a mach2 strategic nuclear bomber (today probably with conventional capability too).

I find it odd how seen alone in the air the Bear looks enormous while the Lancer looks like the size of a fighter jet but in reality they are both about the same size.

@@batuhan8604 both have different roles, Tu 160 was built for Strategic Nuclear Deliverance while B 1b is a close range air support. If you really wanna compare it with something, then you have Tu 22 which was also built before B 1b.
@ADRIEN DOUCET not sure how you think a stealth bomber is less effective. In order to even know these planes are over your airspace you need to see one first as the radar cross section is so small that it is drowned out by large amounts of bugs. Can it hold the most bonbs/missiles? No. By the time you know it is above you it has already dropped its payload and is moving away. Look at what the iraqis did to try and defend against them. They shot anti aircraft guns into the air at random which did them no good.
I wouldn't have never, ever guessed that the B-1 actually weighs more than a B-52...go figure.

It's also pretty stupid operatively.
It costs 2 billion dollars each, with which China and Russia build a dozen or more of their strategic bombers, and needs over 60 ground personnel to operate and maintain each one.
It's a fancy ass thing that makes no sense anymore after the strong developments of 8K optometric array detection systems which make old "stealth" technology completely useless.
In terms of performance it's equivalent to the TU-95 "Bear" but consumes 3 times as much fuel and needs 4 times more personnel to run it.

B52 is old but still kickin.
Putting the B-2 behind the H-6 seems silly considering the B-2 is almost twice as heavy and way wider. Not to mention it can carry better weapons farther, faster, and can lift over twice as much weight then that Chinese copy of an old Soviet bomber.

Ту-95 и Ту-160 - ракетоносцы. Бомбить их учили значительно позже и в качестве расширения номенклатуры применяемого вооружения, которая не является главной целью их применения. А Ту - 22 не был стратегическим. Это ракетоносец оперативно-тактического назначения. Так что из представителей советской школы бомбардировщиком можно назвать разве что H-6, который является развитием Ту-16.
Не развитие, а лицензионная сборка с последующей модернизацией по части электронной начинки.
Ту-22 изначально был стратегическим, но лишился функции дощаправки в воздухе согласно договору о сокращении наступательного вооружения и перестал им быть

Стратегические бомбардировщики решаю стратегические задачи, так же как и номенклатура вооружения, прикрученная к нему. Но, если в 160 загрузить в бомбоотсеки по завязку и отправить бомбить передовую, он будет решать тактическую задачу, при этом не перестанет быть стратегическим ракетоносцем. Не путайте теплое с мягким. Главная задача 22 - уничтожение АУГ, а это оперативно-тактическая задача.

Hmmm.... is this right? A B52 is empty 83.250 kg. But starting weight is 120.000 kg. Maximum weight is 220.000 kg. It would be nice to get the complete information from Wikipedia.
I gave the empty weight of that aircraft. I didn't mention about maximum take off weight and loaded weight.

Together with the Tu-95/142, the B-52 is a 1950's workhorse that just never seem to actually get obsolete. Sure, they need weapons and electronic upgrades every now and then, but their basic performance (range, payload) has been proven, and not surpassed since, and they've outlived every other bomber from that era (not counting the Chinese Tu-16's, whatever they're called).

Tu-160 isn't based on B-1. It's the other way round. Tu-160 is a design from the 1950's.

Just because it is the largest does not mean it carries the most ordnance. The b1 b has a larger payload than the largest bomber. The only thing that the russian bomber has that is better than the b1 b is it faster and has a slightly larger range. The russian bomber due to its empty weight has a much reduced payload capacity. Funny that people compare all the bombers and see who would win but in truth none of them would ever have reason to go head to head. Their targets are never in the air. Their missions involve dropping bombs or large missiles on targets that are at ground/sea level. Air to air combat is a no go for all of them.

The Tu-22 Blinder is actually retired and ths Tu-95 Bear can only carry 33,000 lbs of ordnance less then all there of the U.S. bombers and the Tu-160 White Swan carriers 96,208 lbs of ordnance which is only more then the B-52 Stratofortress and B-2 Spirit the B-1B Lancer carries 125,000 lbs of ordnance plus all three of the U.S. bombers have a wider variety of armament compared to the two chooses on the Tu-160 White Swan and four chooses of the Tu-95 Bear
