Hi, welcome to another episode of Contemplate This, where we discuss your spiritual questions. In episode one I discussed ‘What is New Thought?’ And a question that comes up that is very much related to that often is ‘Are we Christian or not?’ Do we rise up out of the Christian tradition? I remember years ago when I was educating my about religion and holidays, that when Christmas rolled around, and we were talking about it being the birth of Jesus, he realized at some point that Jesus was not Christian. Jesus was Jewish and it was a big shock to him. And it’s interesting that the founder of our teaching, Science of Mind and Spirit, Ernest Holmes, who we speak a lot about here at Mile Hi, he said to us very clearly that we weren’t Christian, he also reminded us that Jesus, himself, was not Christian. Jesus was not promoting Christianity, that came later. Jesus was promoting a life where he promoted people to be in touch with the Divine within them, the Father within that doeth these good works. And so Ernest Holmes would even say to us that he doesn’t know of any tradition that was actually practicing what Jesus taught because people have gotten wayward in their interpretation of the message of Jesus and in their practices as related to Jesus’ ministry. So while Ernest Homes would say that we are part of the Christian tradition, it is mostly because we believe that Jesus was one of the greatest prophets, if not the greatest prophet, to ever walk the earth. That he taught us about love, and he taught us about the connection that we all have to the Divine Presence. Where we are not Christian like is that we have not fallen into, or feel that the traditions that have us putting Jesus up on a pedestal, putting Jesus up to be something special and different than us. That’s not something that New Thought or Science of Mind and Spirit really resonates with. While we support and love people who feel that way, and we don’t criticize them and we don’t make them wrong, we just have a different way of interpreting and seeing the words in the gospel, that Jesus reportedly said, where he invited us all to remember who we are and reminded us that ‘it is the Father within us that doeth the works’ and reminded us that these things he was doing that we could do and even greater. Those phrases are really important to us and seem to me to be the key of our relationship with that wonderful prophet Jesus. I also recognize that, for myself personally, that a lot of the ideals that we attribute to Jesus and God and other prophets are often separating and make them out to be up on a pedestal and for me, any great spiritual teacher that I’ve ever come in contact with who’s really grounded and centered in the love of this universe doesn’t want to be put up on a pedestal like that. Wants to help people understand the notion of the truest love that’s available to all of us, which is within us. That’s what we believe Jesus taught and that’s why we are Christian in that we absolutely support and believe in Jesus, but we’re not traditional in our Christian beliefs. And so that’s kind of where we stand with this one. I hope this week that you’ll give this some contemplation and if you have comments, please put them down below. I would love to hear from you. If you have other questions you’d like to ask, we’d love to hear them. Thanks so much for tuning in. Have a great week.
This is a roundabout way to say that "No, we're not Christian"
Except that in New Thought we feel that we follow Jesus more in the way he wanted. We aren’t saying others who follow traditionally are wrong or aren’t Christian. And this can confuse someone who believes that you’re wrong if you don’t believe the way they do.
We thought it was thoughtful and complete.
Jesus wasn't just the greatest prophet He was the ONLY begotten Son of God. And He was and is in Oneness with the Father. He was seated on the Throne forever at the right hand of the Father.
Thank you for sharing your religious beliefs with us.
Its not religion. Its truth. There is a difference. Religion kills and Jesus Christ has brought life. Nothing else can do this. @@MileHiChurch
This is beautiful.
I am moslim..and moslems believe the same..that Jesuse peace upon him was a great prophet...best regards
Thank you for sharing!
Being a Christian means being a follower of Christ and his teachings. Jesus was not a follower of himself. But he was not legalistic either and that's what the Pharisees promoted.
That is a good point. Jesus did not promote a legalistic approach to religion, but rather emphasized the importance of love, compassion, and forgiveness. He taught his followers to love their neighbors as themselves, to turn the other cheek, and to forgive those who have wronged them. He also criticized the Pharisees for placing too much emphasis on religious rituals and external appearances, while neglecting the weightier matters of the law such as justice, mercy, and faithfulness. Overall, Christianity is about following the example of Jesus and living a life that is characterized by love, compassion, and service to others.
And why then Jesus had to die on the cross in your opinion?
Of course the message sounds plausible if you are weak in your faith or are on a mission and searching. Her message sounds very much like the message given to Adam and Eve; eat from the treat of knowledge and you will become like gods.
Thanks for your comment.
Jesus was & is THE SON OF GOD not a prophet.
Thank you so much for this.
You are so welcome!
I consider myself New Thought Christian, and that's what I tell people if they ask me. I feel that I'm Christian, but I interpret Jesus' teachings (as well as most Bible teachings) from a metaphysical perspective. There are plenty of books on this subject that go into great detail on this, more than I'm willing to go into in this post, but yes, I practice New Thought and consider myself Christian. (Actually, I will make one recommendation - there's a book titled "The New Thought Christian" by William Warch, which is a very good starting point on the subject. But try to find the 1977 publication - I didn't care much for the changes that were made in the 2008 reissue).
But Jesus also said he was the truth and the only way to the father was through him.... and being born again etc
Yes, you are correct that in the Christian tradition, Jesus is often regarded as the only way to God. However, there are different interpretations of what that means exactly, and different religions have their own beliefs about the nature of God and how one can attain spiritual fulfillment.
God is the Father, the creative power of the universe. Christ can be the human imagination. The only way to impress an idea to the Father is through the individual mind.
Jesus was the great Wayshower - he showed us the way, and even said we would perform greater deeds than he. He expected his followers to continue doing what he did, and for a while, they did. I feel a lot of the impact of his teachings were lost once they became institutionalized. But New Thought, especially in the early days, started practicing again what Jesus taught, especially in regards to healing. Having experienced many healings in my own life through Metaphysical and Spiritual Mind Treatment, I can attest that it does work. But it requires the right mental discipline and conviction. It's not something that most people can turn on like a light switch - it has to be developed and cultivated, but it can be.
Jesus said “I AM” is the way, truth and life. Not him, Jesus, but the I AM within each and every one of us. This is but one example of how man made doctrine has obscured the truth about what Jesus really taught
@@timbaker4253 John 14 :6 please show me the translation that says ' I AM' is the way ? that scripture says : " jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
No! Jesus Christ is not just a prophet. He is King of kings and Lord of lords. (Revelation 19:16) Prophets don’t sit at the right hand of the Father ( Ephesians 1:20-21) There is no other name given to men where we must be saved other than Jesus Christ! ( Acts 4:12).
It seems like you're expressing a strong belief in the divinity and unique role of Jesus Christ based on biblical passages. Different Christian denominations may have varying interpretations of these verses, but it's clear that your perspective emphasizes Jesus Christ as more than just a prophet, highlighting his position as the King of kings and Lord of lords, as mentioned in Revelation 19:16.
Ephesians 1:20-21 is often cited to emphasize Jesus' exalted position at the right hand of the Father. Acts 4:12 underscores the exclusivity of salvation through Jesus Christ, stating, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."
Christianity has diverse theological perspectives, and individuals and denominations may interpret these verses differently. It's essential to respect and engage in open dialogue with others who may hold different views while fostering a spirit of understanding and unity within the broader Christian community.
@@MileHiChurch Please tell me this wasn't written by an AI
I hope many people read my comment..Jesus did indeed claim to be Divine… ie “God”… John 1:1 In the beginning of as the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
Dr.Medrano SPEAKS ABOUT ANOTHER JESUS, NOT THE JESUS OF THE BIBLE...
It is important to remember that everyone has their own interpretation of religious texts and teachings, and what may be meaningful to one person may not resonate with another.
So... no you're not Christians then. To be Christian does not simply mean to 'follow Christ' but to believe that Jesus was and is 'Christ' literally: the messiah, a part of the holy trinity, God himself. All fine and dandy by me that you have your own way and that you don't want to put Jesus on a pedestal and call him God (and therefore Christ - that is what that means) but if you set out to answer a question you should really address what that question means in itself.
It's important to recognize that there are various interpretations and understandings of what it means to be a Christian. While some may adhere to a more traditional and orthodox view of Christianity that includes a belief in the Holy Trinity and the divinity of Jesus as the Son of God, others may hold different beliefs and still identify as Christians. It's important to respect these different perspectives and engage in respectful dialogue to better understand and appreciate different perspectives.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6. There is no other way to get to God.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
Yeshua is the Messiah. Read Isaiah 53. John 3:16. All scriptures points to Him. If you want to be born again believe in Him and your sins will be forgiven. We cant be saved by good works or other religions. ❤
Not Christian. that is Gnosticism.
What I got from Dr. Michelle Medrano's talk today is that yes, we at Mile High Church (Church of Religious Science), and those of us who study the Science of Mind and Spirit, and Ernest Holmes, are indeed Christian. Ernest Holmes was a Christian and did not think of the New Thought movement as separate from Christianity. These are some of my thoughts after listening to Michelle's explanation. I've been confused about this topic. I'm still confused about why Religious Science is looked upon as 'not Christian'. If anyone actually studies the books of Ernest Holmes there can be no doubt about that. Pedestals make me uncomfortable because they are about 'separation' instead of oneness. If ever there was anyone who walked this earth who was about oneness, and unity, it was Jesus Christ. Ernest Holmes life was about translating the workings of God and Christ and Spirit - or Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit - into a unifying set of concepts. Ernest Holmes wrote another gem of a book titled The Philosophy of Jesus for the World Today. He was a deep and brilliant thinker, a spiritual genius, whose genius was a gift from God.
No. This is not Christianity. You can be Buddhist and follow new thought. See I don’t subscribe to Jesus worship. I subscribe to higher thought. Elevated mind body and soul
New thought isn’t Christian
Jesus taught the Torah (also translated as "The Law"--as in God of Isreal's law). He was Jewish and he followed the Torah and taught the Torah. Over and over in the gospel he exhorted people to repent and turn back to the ways of the Farher. He condemed the Pharisees for pretending to keep the Law but failing to understand it's purpose and importance. He taught of one Father and one Truth. Jesus did not come teaching something new or different. He said "my doctrine is not my own, but it comes from Him who sent me." The Father sent Him. And the same Father stated "I give you good doctrine, forsake not my Torah ." God bless you all with ears to hear and eyes to see.
This is so new age. Run from this occult thought. Jesus is God. We are not. That's why they killed Christ because he claimed to be God, and that was blasphemous to the Jewish leaders in His day.
FANTASTIC!!! We need these thoughts broadcast more because I have heard way too much that we do not include Jesus The Christ in our beliefs.
Jeff Ramsey I see you are a friend of Bob and Bill's and so am I. So was my father. I'm with you, too, on education about our alignment with Christianity. As an empath, it wasn't until I was introduced to Religious Science in 1977 that all of this made total sense to me. I am highly sensitive to controversies, and must avoid that type of energy, especially when my intuition serves me so well. My much beloved grandmother never talked with me about her own beliefs because I think she tried to not introduce anything that might go against what her son and my mother believed. She often took me to church with her, which I loved. To her credit, she didn't want to cause any dissension within our family. My grandmother was a Christian who lived by her own example....that was her Christianity in action. I always felt a wonderful sense of calm when I stood in front of her dressing table and reverently observed The Daily Word magazine lying in its special place. Without anyone saying anything to me about that magazine, and New Thought, I innately sensed it was a very special energy. This goes to show me that we never know how our actions might affect another person. The same goes for my father and his disciplined, structured work with Bob and Bill. I could sense how special that was to him.
She clearly said that Jesus was a Prophet. Jesus was and is the Son of God and he prophesied on the behalf of his father.
Jesus is Christianity. Yes, there are awful religious Pharisees and Saduccees who claim to be Christian. This seems like another branch of lies waiting to deceive
You would have to be mile high to accept this teaching. The short answer this question “is new thought Christian ?” NO ! This doctrine is from the pit of hell. Have nothing to do with it.
In New Thought,do you acknowledge or believe in the divine female or that God is also female?
I believe God is inclusive of all Gender expressions AND is transcendent of Gender.
Although I am Bahai. This is the truth
Hi Diana Thanks for stopping by. I'm familiar with the Bahai path. We share many of the same principles. Peace and blessings!
@@MileHiChurch Hey Mile Hi Church, thank you and peace and blessings to you as well.
No.
👍
Is that a quote “!The Father within that doeth theses works?”
Yes, that is a quote from the Bible, specifically from the Gospel of John, chapter 14, verse 10. The full quote reads: "Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." In this passage, Jesus is explaining his relationship with God the Father, and how the miracles he performs are a result of the Father's presence within him.
You are not Christian
Love :)
You are not of the truth you the truth is not in you the Holy Spirit did not tell you are deceptive and deceived and deceiving many
Thier blood will me on your hands
The Jesus of New thought movement, and the Jesus of Islam is NOT the Jesus of the Bible
It is an entity called "another Jesus" a false Jesus.. The Jesus of the Bible is LORD GOD. Period.
It's true that different religious traditions have varying perspectives on the figure of Jesus, and these perspectives can significantly differ. In Christianity, the understanding of Jesus is central to its theology, with diverse interpretations among denominations.
In the New Thought movement, Jesus is often seen as a spiritual teacher and example, and the emphasis is on the divinity within each individual. In Islam, Jesus (known as 'Isa in Arabic) is considered a prophet and messenger of God but not divine. These views are indeed distinct from the traditional Christian understanding that Jesus is both fully human and fully divine, as articulated in doctrines such as the Trinity.
Your perspective aligns with the traditional Christian belief in Jesus as Lord and God. The diversity of beliefs about Jesus across religions underscores the complexity of religious thought and the importance of respectful dialogue when discussing such matters. It's essential to engage in conversations with an open mind and a willingness to understand different viewpoints, even when there are fundamental theological differences.
This is not a new thought, it is an old thought of devil personaly.
When she says "...we do not put Jesus on piedestal or special place...".
But The Word of God says:
"Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9-11)
Of course Jesus was not Christian. He was the Christ. His followers are call Christians. Not a prophet. The spiritual incarnation of the Fathef. This hitch is of crap
In Christian theology, Jesus is considered the Messiah (the Christ), and Christians are those who follow his teachings and believe in his divinity. The term "Christian" is indeed derived from the followers of Christ. It's important to note that the concept of Christianity as a distinct religious identity emerged after Jesus' death and resurrection as his teachings spread among his followers.
Wonderful explanation. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and teachings.
what u think of messianic jews?
While different religions may have different teachings and practices, they all contain some level of truth or wisdom. By recognizing the value of different religions and seeking to learn from them. Thus we can work towards building bridges and promoting peace between people of different faiths.
Pure heresy
Different perspectives make things interesting! Care to share why you think so?
Prophet Jesús???
It's important to note that religious beliefs vary, and perspectives on figures such as Jesus can differ greatly among different faith traditions.
