The Spotlight: Holding dealers accountable if they sell a pill that kills
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 май 2023
- This week on the Spotlight, anyone can be held criminally responsible for suppling a deadly dose of fentanyl to someone, but law enforcement says these are some of the toughest cases to build, and even harder to prove in court. We sit down with one undercover narcotics detective who has made it his mission to go after these dealers anyway. Plus, the suspect in a brutal 1994 murder of a mother and her three-year-old son goes before a judge for the first time. We explain why this court appearance may have come a little too late for the victim’s family.

So she OD on the ferry and had to be revised, then decided to take more of the same pills days later....
Sounds like everyone is trying to point the finger at everyone besides her.
I get that she’s definitely responsible but at what point does this society stop
Glorifying drug dealers and criminals that are making enormous profits off the deaths of innocent people??
KEVIN!!!!
@@Not-the-usual-BS Jesus saves
@@Not-the-usual-BS The only people I've ever seen glorify drug dealers are addicts. Nobody deserves to die, Fentanyl is a deadly epidemic. But she wasn't exactly innocent.
revised?? HA!! GOOD one, DUMBBELL!!!
The people who take drugs should also be viewed as essentially signing a waiver. Accidentally ODing on something that was laced with some bad shit is a lot different than choosing to take fentanyl. Everyday you hear of people dying on this stuff. If you take it still, that’s on you.
Yea right theese people have no self control and ruin there lives plus everyone else it's
It's funny how this mother can sit here and say they know what they are selling what she knows what she's buying lol shits sad situation in general but I've done fake percs before especially after I had a shoulder replacement they actually suck
Uhm I just wanted to make sure ya'll got the effing memo! Addiction is widely classified as a mental health condition/disorder, which is why medical insurance can help pay for treatment! It's not ONLY about choices!! Just because you have no experience or personal knowledge really doesn't mean you would be above it if you'd been dealt the same hand in life and had some of the same struggles you would probably be in the same or a similar boat. How about you be thankful your life didn't lead you down a worse path, be grateful for the life you've got, that other people may not have had!! Not everyone is equipped or endowed with the same privileges or luxuries you are! Some people have it a lot tougher and don't have the same external supports that you might have had... Only selfish narcissistic a$$hats & chitty people put other people down to make themselves feel 'better'!
It's funny how some street addicts say they use fentanyl every day and they don't die. But some can take just a few grains of it and die.
Should a person who is mentally ill, untreated, and cast aside by society be held accountable?
As someone in recovery, had I died in active addiction, I would have NEVER wanted my dealer arrested/ charged with homicide for my death.
I’m sorry for this mother’s loss. No one deserve to die from using a substance. I understand the mother wants someone to blame, but criminalizing drugs/ dealers is exactly what has led to the current opiate/ fentanyl crisis.
We need a safe, regulated supply now. If not, nothing will change in the current crisis
Yea the fact it's illicit is why there is fentanyl lacing in the first place
hmn but your not dead ! there r millions who r dead !! ill definitly say put the dealers in jail till they die ! why would u want more people to die cos of them ? u lost me !!
So it's everyone else's fault huh? This mother is an enabler and has a hand in her kids' death, too. She said her daughter was such a happy person. BS! She couldn't have been too happy if she had been an addict before she was 18 and already in rehab. I'm not giving the dealers a pass, but everything starts at home. Spend more time figuring out why these kids are becoming addicts is the real answer here.
Bingo! And the answer to your last questions is our prescribing doctors that take an oath to help and not harm. But when they get pushed by the drug companies to push their drugs onto everyone. Even those that don't need it. Then there you question becomes answered. That's why sometimes it's better off not seeing a doctor regularly. Cuz they just push their incentive magic pills onto those that are vulnerable and trusting in the oath keepers lol
It's not that easy to stop a cultural breakdown. The drugs are far too easy to get now and opiates make a hopeless addict out of anyone who uses for more than a few weeks to a month. That's all it takes. Stop the open supply chain from China to the Southern Border, where cartels bring it over in 55 gallon barrels. The answer is that simple.
We stood and did nothing while inner cities died. Sound about right?
Honest question: if as the mother said “everyone knows that those pills are fentanyl” then why are the users still taking them?
This story is sad, however, this mom should not be blaming someone else. Her daughter chose to go there.
Sounds like you're on the side with the dealers
@@wildlifewarrior2670 You're sadly mistaken.
@@wildlifewarrior2670 Every parent of a drug addict that I've ever known, blames everyone else for their child's addiction.
From a young age you should pound into your kids to not do drugs. There's no oh "their just experimenting" addiction is life long bitch.
@Christopher Jacobs bar owner doesn't or shouldn't put other things in the beer
I was a heroin and fentanyl addict in the eight years I was doing it I'd never seen a fentanyl pill or fentanyl pill that was disguised as a Roxi 30 or other pill "(edit.. it was always powder or rock mostly powder).. maybe I was a lucky one that got out of addiction alive I've been clean off opioids over a year now I just smoke a lot of weed.. when I'd be dope sick I couldn't smell weed without puking.. I pray for anyone who is in active addiction to get help there is people to help you they're not trying to hurt you have faith in them through recovery I hope you find peace happiness and sobriety!! If you have a family member who is addicted don't shun them, give them a hug and tell them it's gonna be alright if they just try they will get better everything's gonna be alright!! But unfortunately it doesn't matter what we want, they have to want to help themselves to heal if they don't want help we all know what happens in the end!! We are all children of God and he wants the best for us!! 🙏🤗😸💯💯
Weed won't help with opiate/opioid addiction. You're right. People who are junk-sick only want one thing.
Um…..YOU will ALWAYS BE an ADDICT!!!!!!
The mother is lying to herself.. Her daughter was not happy on the inside.. She might had a smile out the outside but her daughter was F UP on the inside.. People need to stop blaming the Drugs.. Better yet! Ask yourself what part did you do to get your daughter to start taking drugs.. I as a recovering
Drug Addict, realized I did it to myself.. Yet I still do it to myself to stay clean .. GOING on 31 years..
How about holding the doctors accountable then when someone dies from the pills they give them, or bartenders when someone dies in a drunk driving wreck from the poison they sell.
pointing the finger everybody else besides the person knowing and willingly taken fentanyl by choice. if I sell a gun to somebody and they end up killing themselves with it do I get charged with homicide?
Yes. Thank you for asking a pointing out the obvious.
Yes she was a victim of being sold a deadly drug BUT her parents shouldn't of done that. That is when a person is weakest. To be given permission by your parents to be let loose to travel unsupervised without being held accountable for your prior addition is so unthinkable. Why would they do that? Yes to want to give your child all the trust is natural but not a realistic thing to do at that juncture.
Even if you warn people, it wont help, I'll actually consider something to work when its deemed a weapon
This was her choice to take the pills she didn’t have to
That's a naïve solution.
I wish they would explain how the reality of an Overdose happens-It started out with a nod that turns into sleeping that you never wake up from.
No, that’s not how overdose happens - it’s not as subtle as you describe it. Especially for someone who is clean that takes something as strong as Fentanyl - rapid onset of racing heart, sweating, flush skin / pale skin / translucent blue or purple fingernails / respiratory distress or failure, possible organ failure then unconsciousness… it’s likely her friend or an EMT/fireman deployed narcan spray to revive her that day - it instantly removes the drug from the opioid receptor. Rapidly revving the person overdosing. If you’ve seen pulp fiction it’s pretty much just like when he hits her in the heart with the giant adrenaline needle except it’s a spray that is administered through the nose.
It’s something to behold for sure - ironically, many of the addicts come to unaware the trouble they were in and are furious that their “high” has been ruined… hard to believe!
A person CHOOSES to buy that drug!
If a pill say M and 30 on it they do know what it is.
What if theyget it free? Then who's fault or blame to be?
@@crand20033 they should know what they are buying...
@@daixer3156 I would say it was the person who takes it. They do have a choice right?
@@crand20033 not only that, by this time a person would never know if it has fentanyl and they should buy knowing that there's a possibility...
So this will apply to Pharmaceutical manufacturers & distributors right..... Right?
My thoughts as well. If the doctors and big pharma didn't prescribe everyone and there mother the oxys and percs.alot of people's lives would have been different.
Imagine blaming the drug dealer for murder like if he forced the pill down the consumers throat
Shouldn't be dealing death drugs😢but goin after the little guy never does anything but fill the prisons, they should be putting all there efforts into the source they are the problem, 😮cut the serpents head off this will cut supply out ,but they will never do this ,to many making big money 💰 off of killing folks,if they really wanted to end this crisis they would go after the big players but sence the war on drugs began in 1972 the big players just pay there way to get there products through 😮the death drugs will never stop as long as money is involved the dont care who or how many die.put fentinol all over the money the big players get paid with and kill the suppliers 😊
True if he didn’t sell it someone else would have but still he shouldn’t have been selling something that can kill you so easily to a young girl
The solution: Don't do drugs
My heart goes out to the mother losing her beautiful daughter🙏🙏
Are they barely slapping wrists if they kill someone with drugs they know are illegal? 😂
Death sentence.
She was killing herself. I'll call bull shit right here
Stomping people around the dealer side really sick disgusting
how about holding the government liable for keeping the border wide open
Omg the dog why the fk would someone do that?!?
Who in their right mind would pop pilz for fun ? Fkn goofy 😭
The Dog killings are more disturbing. Serial killers start off this way and I hope this person is caught. Sick
There’s more then one?
So true! And the way and weapon of choice is horrific as it is already
Dog killings? That's random.
How about holding users accountable for taking any illegal/prescription drug of any kind
We DO!!!! With a coroner.
What if she was selling them too and she did them like most people tend to do and just unlikey
I ride the MAX transit system EVERYDAY, and from time to time i see these types of pills laying on seats or the floor (i never touch them) , some times there's a dude/chick laid out in that area. I just shake my head and walk to any area away from them. ☹sad.
Just so you know, you cannot overdose by simply touching fentanyl or being around it. If that was the case, why would people go through injecting it/ having to buy more if you can touch it over and over again?
Makes no sense.
If you are knowingly buying fentanyl that's on you. If someone is however fine say for instance a pill that looks like a real pharmaceutical but it's Fentanyl and they didn't know then that situation I can agree with the dealer getting taken down for manslaughter.
Right. This girl knew she was buying fent.. that's what she went to rehab for.. fentanyl. Silly case. Sad either way but yes I agree, different if the person believes that they are buying oxycodone and instead, it's fake oxy(fent).
However, pharmaceutical companies have nothing to worry about. Business as usual.
Who is the first person who gave her druggs the very first time ? Was it pot?
Enquiring minds want to know. Pot was always considered a gateway drugg.
If drugs were decriminalized they could be regulated and manufactured to be relatively safe.
Exactly, thank you!
@erictaylor5482 I agree. I think most people agree that Prohibition didn't work.
That worked in Countries like Holland and England, but the old U.S.A. is a different story.
@@eucliduschaumeau8813 Why is it a different story?
Oh, wait, because the police are making tons of money stealing via civil asset forfeiture?
I really don’t get how a girl that young could even get into fentanyl. How do they get there tolerances so high I know many people who do high dose oxy codone and even they would over dose if they did fentanyl
How about forcing people to take some personal responsibility for choosing to illegally take drugs? They aren't victims.
This is like buying a gun and taking it home and blowing your brains out. Is the gun dealer accountable or responsible for your suicide?
For all the drug dealer knows, you could be taking the pills home to glue onto a paper plate for arts and crafts.
It's Seattle. The blame is always on someone else. CHAZ MY SPAZZ
The chain of custody of the evidence can be problematic.
What does that mean? Lamens term please 🙏
That's it in a nutshell.
This, is sad and makes me feel bitter
I know how bad at hurts to lose someone from your immediate family, in 2008 I found my mom when she passed (non drug related). With that said this lady is placing blame where she has no reason to. How is it the dealers fault but not the mothers fault? If the personal that sold the pills are responsible then so is the mother. The people we grow up to be are more or less based on the way we're raised and what our parents teach us. With that said this family has my deepest condolences and I hope they all learn to accept this young lady unfortunately fate
When the DEALER is your FELLOW high school classmate…..I AGREE, PUT that kid IN PRISON, FOREVER!!!
How about holding politician's responsible for legalization of drugs
So her dealer got 20 MONTHS in prison. HA!!! What a JOKE!!!!!!
This mother is delusional. Her daughter PUT the drug in her own mouth. Not the dealer.
As someone who was an addict and a dealer for 15 years iv been on both sides but if i died from opiates regardless of what type, thats on me...i knew the risks and i chose to take the chance, u can be safe about it, as safe as u can be i guess, test your shit, use small amounts at first, carry narcan, use with people who will actually help if you OD etc....its not the dealers fault🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I understand. Yes she also seeked out the fet pill. One real perc 30 is 30 buck's. She got 10 for 40. If one seeks out the fetty it's not murder
I don’t get how she could have even got her tollerence up for fenty. The perc 30 should have been good enough but maybe she couldn’t find any. My buddy knows a guy who did like 5 oxy 80s a day and he over dosed off a small amount of fent and he was 26 grown man
100%
In addition to my comment below comment, a few days ago, a man was about to overdose before someone else gave him a shot of Narcam, he survived, as if that wasn't messed up enough... SOME IDIOT IS ASKING ME : WHAT DO YOU WANT??? I GOT BLUES , i looked at HIM like WHUH??? NAW I'M GOOD , i couldn't really mentally grip that there's a man not 6 feet away from where your standing that Almost DIED and you're tryna sell DRUGS WHILE IT'S GOING ON????!!!! 😲 WOW😡
There’s only 2 guilty parties here: the dealer and the buyer.
Dealers EXIST…..ONLY because of the DEMAND!!!
So should we start prosecuting the pharmacies that distribute painkillers to a patient that overdoses? Or to liquor stores that sell alcohol to a customer that dies in a accident? Same goes for bartenders....oh and what about guns? A product that is literally designed to kill...should we start prosecuting the people that sell guns to the person who pulled the trigger as well? and mind you that all these products that i mentioned are regulated by the government... And when it comes to the illicit drug trade, people should know the risks that they are taking when they participate in it..nobody forced them to buy the drugs..they made that decision on their own. ..if we dont hold the same handlers responsible in the regulated and legal industry of Alcohol, Firearms and Pharmaceuticals then why should we do it in a market that isnt? Doesnt seem right to me.
I've been doing blues for about a year now, I can't get off them and can't afford rehab idk what to do.. no one in my life cares about me enough to even talk to me about it..
get some kratom and start weaning off. it works
get treatment if you live in seattle 1700 airport way s. 7:30 am look up methadone treatment in your city its free everywhere paid by the state medicaid , or medicare depending where you live there are also voucher programs all over the us.
Sr said it best that no one wins the 1st red flag in my opinion when it comes to violence erupting is that she started banging on his window that's defcon 3 and 4 at minimum
*just stay away from drugs*
So if I drink myself to death, it’s the fault of the clerks at the liquor store?
Good parenting and critical thinking go a long way in personal accountability, but we all know that nobody even wants to talk about that any more.
It's bud lights fault.😅
Does that include everyone??? that sell drugs??? not just drug dealers... Everyone??? ☕🤔
TruthB, Exactly!
Good news but are they going to try and prosecute the pharmaceutical companies also because they started quite a few people on the road to addiction 😮
Seatle misses the Mark on many things. I feel for the Mom the daughters death is a lost to many
they sure love their Lenin statue
It should only be for people under 20 you get a murder case
Concentrate on the big players
Even look at politicians and some of law enforcement who facilitate this. Most dealers are irrelevent to whats going on.
Sounds like brilliant wasn't very bright.
if this is the case the doctors and hospitals should get charged too. they willingly sell drugs that have shown to have adverse side effects in most cases.
** they should get charged when somebody dies*
I'm a chronic pain sufferer and this attitude is what makes it impossible for legitimate pain patients to get the medication they need. The garbage addicts are taking is available everywhere, from illegal diversion, to cartels, to local dealers all the way to their "friends". Blaming it on doctors is insane.
In my area m-30 are as cheap as $3 a pill! So I tell everyone it's a $3 death trip! If someone is using these it's just a matter of time before they overdose. Everyone using these for any length of time have overdosed and if they overdose with no one around with narcan well good by. I guy I've known for 15 years I seen him the other day and I told him well I guess next time I see you will be at your funeral! That's hard and cold but it's the truth
Dealers ? I'm 42 this all started from DOCTORS HANDING THEN OUT LIKE CANDY FOR 12 YEARS why is never any news coverage of that the supposed smart people started ALL this
You people are delusional. People need to account for the fact that THEY BOUGHT IT. SHE WANTS TO BUY IT. Where were the parents when she was buying drugs. Good job parents
1:20 I think we should hold the police to account before we let them hold others.
That makes no sense at all.
@@eucliduschaumeau8813 It dose. Police are breaking the law every day. They need to be held to account for that.
I hope for the he best 🙏
yes, every single dealer
Do you think this law will work for vaccinations? How high up the cartel ladder would it go? Straight to the top?
It doesn't matter if he sold to her or not she would've gotten it somewhere else!
From you perhaps? The plot thickens 😂
The mom is evil lol. Tryna take another life all bc she failed as a parent. Smdh get over it lady. If you weren't so pre occupied she could have gotten help
What is it to gain the whole world?
Mark. 8 Verses 34 to 38
[36] For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? [37] Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Buying those drugs and putting them into her mouth was her choice. But what gets me she overdosed on that fairy and was brought back to her senses and then knowingly the potential harm of the drug she still decided to put those drugs back into her mouth no one forced her to do that and then died. That was her choice and making anyone else accountable for her own actions doesn’t seem to be right she chose her own path she sought out the drugs on her own. I’m sorry she died but if you continue to blame everyone else for her actions then how do drug addiction ever get cured they blame everyone else except for the people responsible for their own decisions.
Rip to Brollion
Greedy they are...

But just like dude said in the very beginning, all the pills u can buy are Fetty. Dont believe the bs. Real 30mg perks are very rare. Drs dont like to write the scripts and their super expensive. Like 50, 60 to 100 bucks each.
If a person is willingly ingesting Fetty. Thats their fault if they od. The dealer could be charged with narco sales. But not homicide or anything like that.

Fentanyl is flooding our streets due to the criminalization of drug use.
During prohibition, more people drank distilled spirits than wine and beer because it was more cost-effective, easier to smuggle and transport.
Dealers should be held accountable however if drugs are legalized and OD deaths diminish, legislators who lobbied for drug criminalization should also be held accountable.
What are you talking about? Criminals and drug addicts are literally empowered to use drugs in the open as cops walk/drive by? We just DEcriminalized drugs in Seattle, that’s why it’s so bad. There will always be addicts and crime, but before the woke agenda took hold and everyone blamed police, people would be safe to walk in Seattle and criminals were at least deterred from committing crime or using drugs in the open.
Peace be unto you
during prohibition the government poisoned industrial alcohol because they knew it would be stolen and people would drink it. Then a month later after thousands of Americans lay dead in the street, the government decided they will double the poison. then a month later, hundreds of thousands lay dead in the street.. and yes I agree. Countries who have decriminalized drugs have seen almost 80 decrease of addicts and drug crimes. you cannot legislate away addiction
Then get them for attempted murder also just for selling it…
Any loss of life is tragic . But the user makes a choice to take the drug . Drug dealers are aware it’s unlawful to use or posses drugs .. so that’s a two way street. Like another person said it’s the equivalent of signing a waiver
NOT to mention giving a WAVE good-bye. Forever.
She is right y'all are really not giving people a chance this is not od
