The Spotlight: Holding dealers accountable if they sell a pill that kills

  • This week on the Spotlight, anyone can be held criminally responsible for suppling a deadly dose of fentanyl to someone, but law enforcement says these are some of the toughest cases to build, and even harder to prove in court. We sit down with one undercover narcotics detective who has made it his mission to go after these dealers anyway. Plus, the suspect in a brutal 1994 murder of a mother and her three-year-old son goes before a judge for the first time. We explain why this court appearance may have come a little too late for the victim’s family.

    The people who take drugs should also be viewed as essentially signing a waiver. Accidentally ODing on something that was laced with some bad shit is a lot different than choosing to take fentanyl. Everyday you hear of people dying on this stuff. If you take it still, that’s on you.

      Uhm I just wanted to make sure ya'll got the effing memo! Addiction is widely classified as a mental health condition/disorder, which is why medical insurance can help pay for treatment! It's not ONLY about choices!! Just because you have no experience or personal knowledge really doesn't mean you would be above it if you'd been dealt the same hand in life and had some of the same struggles you would probably be in the same or a similar boat. How about you be thankful your life didn't lead you down a worse path, be grateful for the life you've got, that other people may not have had!! Not everyone is equipped or endowed with the same privileges or luxuries you are! Some people have it a lot tougher and don't have the same external supports that you might have had... Only selfish narcissistic a$$hats & chitty people put other people down to make themselves feel 'better'!

    I’m sorry for this mother’s loss. No one deserve to die from using a substance. I understand the mother wants someone to blame, but criminalizing drugs/ dealers is exactly what has led to the current opiate/ fentanyl crisis.

    So it's everyone else's fault huh? This mother is an enabler and has a hand in her kids' death, too. She said her daughter was such a happy person. BS! She couldn't have been too happy if she had been an addict before she was 18 and already in rehab. I'm not giving the dealers a pass, but everything starts at home. Spend more time figuring out why these kids are becoming addicts is the real answer here.

    • @daixer3156
      @daixer3156 Год назад

      Bingo! And the answer to your last questions is our prescribing doctors that take an oath to help and not harm. But when they get pushed by the drug companies to push their drugs onto everyone. Even those that don't need it. Then there you question becomes answered. That's why sometimes it's better off not seeing a doctor regularly. Cuz they just push their incentive magic pills onto those that are vulnerable and trusting in the oath keepers lol

      It's not that easy to stop a cultural breakdown. The drugs are far too easy to get now and opiates make a hopeless addict out of anyone who uses for more than a few weeks to a month. That's all it takes. Stop the open supply chain from China to the Southern Border, where cartels bring it over in 55 gallon barrels. The answer is that simple.

    I was a heroin and fentanyl addict in the eight years I was doing it I'd never seen a fentanyl pill or fentanyl pill that was disguised as a Roxi 30 or other pill "(edit.. it was always powder or rock mostly powder).. maybe I was a lucky one that got out of addiction alive I've been clean off opioids over a year now I just smoke a lot of weed.. when I'd be dope sick I couldn't smell weed without puking.. I pray for anyone who is in active addiction to get help there is people to help you they're not trying to hurt you have faith in them through recovery I hope you find peace happiness and sobriety!! If you have a family member who is addicted don't shun them, give them a hug and tell them it's gonna be alright if they just try they will get better everything's gonna be alright!! But unfortunately it doesn't matter what we want, they have to want to help themselves to heal if they don't want help we all know what happens in the end!! • @mattengland653
      @mattengland653 Год назад

      No, that’s not how overdose happens - it’s not as subtle as you describe it. Especially for someone who is clean that takes something as strong as Fentanyl - rapid onset of racing heart, sweating, flush skin / pale skin / translucent blue or purple fingernails / respiratory distress or failure, possible organ failure then unconsciousness… it’s likely her friend or an EMT/fireman deployed narcan spray to revive her that day - it instantly removes the drug from the opioid receptor. Rapidly revving the person overdosing. If you’ve seen pulp fiction it’s pretty much just like when he hits her in the heart with the giant adrenaline needle except it’s a spray that is administered through the nose.
      It’s something to behold for sure - ironically, many of the addicts come to unaware the trouble they were in and are furious that their “high” has been ruined… hard to believe!

Same goes for bartenders....oh and what about guns? A product that is literally designed to kill...should we start prosecuting the people that sell guns to the person who pulled the trigger as well? and mind you that all these products that i mentioned are regulated by the government... And when it comes to the illicit drug trade, people should know the risks that they are taking when they participate in it..nobody forced them to buy the drugs..they made that decision on their own. ..if we dont hold the same handlers responsible in the regulated and legal industry of Alcohol, Firearms and Pharmaceuticals then why should we do it in a market that isnt? But what gets me she overdosed on that fairy and was brought back to her senses and then knowingly the potential harm of the drug she still decided to put those drugs back into her mouth no one forced her to do that and then died. That was her choice and making anyone else accountable for her own actions doesn’t seem to be right she chose her own path she sought out the drugs on her own. I’m sorry she died but if you continue to blame everyone else for her actions then how do drug addiction ever get cured they blame everyone else except for the people responsible for their own decisions.

    Fentanyl is flooding our streets due to the criminalization of drug use.
    During prohibition, more people drank distilled spirits than wine and beer because it was more cost-effective, easier to smuggle and transport.
    Dealers should be held accountable however if drugs are legalized and OD deaths diminish, legislators who lobbied for drug criminalization should also be held accountable.

Then a month later after thousands of Americans lay dead in the street, the government decided they will double the poison. then a month later, hundreds of thousands lay dead in the street.. and yes I agree. Countries who have decriminalized drugs have seen almost 80 decrease of addicts and drug crimes. you cannot legislate away addiction
