- The Dakshinamurti Stotra is a Sanskrit religious hymn to Lord Shiva provided to us by Adi Shankara. Here is a unique prayer, which is not only a prayer but the summary of all the philosophy that Adi Shankara has taught. It explains the metaphysics of the universe in the frame of the tradition of Advaita Vedanta. The Stotra takes the form of conceptual and philosophical statements.

In a compilation of ten stanzas Adi Shankara provides us a concise and vivid description of the philosophical significance of the form of Siva, giving the very essence of the Indian idea of epistemology. It differs from every other attempt in a very basic sense, in that it is holistic rather than purely reductionist.
Sri Dakshinamurti is an incarnation of Shiva, the supreme god of knowledge.
Sri Dakshinamurti is an aspect of Shiva as a guru of all types of knowledge, and bestower of jnana. This aspect of Shiva is his personification as the supreme or the ultimate awareness, understanding and knowledge.
This form represents Shiva in his aspect as a teacher of yoga, music, and wisdom, and giving exposition on the shastras.
Repeated chanting and/or meditating on the meaning of these verses is expected to help a spiritual practitioner of Advaita vedanta get thoroughly established in an Advaitic experience.

@@Inpursuitoftruth9 What is it to be completely immersed in the divine? This is a very dangerous question. Hope, you are asking it rather casually, again satisfied with superficial answers. Otherwise it will shake your very foundation of life. To be aware of the nature, structure, movement, the mechanism of of thought and therefore the very movement of the ego, the self, the psyche, the 'I' --- needs a gathering of supreme energy; which again is dissipated by all the activities of the self. Strotra, parayana, Puja, pilgrimage, and various activities concerning the divine, will no doubt, bestow certain calmness of the mind, superficially or otherwise. But the self, the psyche, the 'I', the 'me' the ahamkara is still very much active and present. First and foremost, let's deal with the impossible, head on, and there is no need to deal with the branches as the very trunk and root of ahamkara is is dealt with once for all. This is possibly a supreme religious challenge for any human being, not following some organised, hierarchical, orthodox religious nonsense and repeating certain phrases like a caged parrot. Oneself is both the teacher and the taught. In oneself lies the whole history of humanity, psychologically, and without going through it thoroughly, to talk about religion will always remain superficial. In cleansing the consciousness of oneself one is also cleansing the consciousness of whole of humanity. There is no time involved in all this; time is the enemy of man. May be all this blah blah is new to others; or rather one is not accustomed to this kind of questioning. This is the essence of Vichara-Viveks-Vairagya. Without laying this foundation, unshakably and firmly, to meditate is allowing oneself to be caught in all kinds of illusions and delusions.

స్వాత్మారామం ముదితవదనం దక్షిణామూర్తిమీడే ॥ 1 ॥
వటవిటపిసమీపేభూమిభాగే నిషణ్ణం
సకలమునిజనానాం జ్ఞానదాతారమారాత్ ।
త్రిభువనగురుమీశం దక్షిణామూర్తిదేవం
జననమరణదుఃఖచ్ఛేదదక్షం నమామి ॥ 2 ॥
చిత్రం వటతరోర్మూలే వృద్ధాః శిష్యా గురుర్యువా ।
గురోస్తు మౌనం వ్యాఖ్యానం శిష్యాస్తుచ్ఛిన్నసంశయాః ॥ 3 ॥
నిధయే సర్వవిద్యానాం భిషజే భవరోగిణామ్ ।
గురవే సర్వలోకానాం దక్షిణామూర్తయే నమః ॥ 4 ॥
ఓం నమః ప్రణవార్థాయ శుద్ధజ్ఞానైకమూర్తయే ।
నిర్మలాయ ప్రశాంతాయ దక్షిణామూర్తయే నమః ॥ 5 ॥
చిద్ఘనాయ మహేశాయ వటమూలనివాసినే ।
సచ్చిదానందరూపాయ దక్షిణామూర్తయే నమః ॥ 6 ॥
ఈశ్వరో గురురాత్మేతి మూర్తిభేదవిభాగినే ।

విశ్వం దర్పణ-దృశ్యమాన-నగరీ తుల్యం నిజాంతర్గతం
పశ్యన్నాత్మని మాయయా బహిరివోద్భూతం యథా నిద్రయా ।
యస్సాక్షాత్కురుతే ప్రభోధసమయే స్వాత్మానమే వాద్వయం
తస్మై శ్రీగురుమూర్తయే నమ ఇదం శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్తయే ॥ 1 ॥
బీజస్యాంతరి-వాంకురో జగదితం ప్రాఙ్నిర్వికల్పం పునః
మాయాకల్పిత దేశకాలకలనా వైచిత్ర్యచిత్రీకృతమ్ ।
మాయావీవ విజృంభయత్యపి మహాయోగీవ యః స్వేచ్ఛయా
తస్మై శ్రీగురుమూర్తయే నమ ఇదం శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్తయే ॥ 2 ॥
యస్యైవ స్ఫురణం సదాత్మకమసత్కల్పార్థకం భాసతే
సాక్షాత్తత్వమసీతి వేదవచసా యో బోధయత్యాశ్రితాన్ ।
యస్సాక్షాత్కరణాద్భవేన్న పురనావృత్తిర్భవాంభోనిధౌ
తస్మై శ్రీగురుమూర్తయే నమ ఇదం శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్తయే ॥ 3 ॥
నానాచ్ఛిద్ర ఘటోదర స్థిత మహాదీప ప్రభాభాస్వరం
జ్ఞానం యస్య తు చక్షురాదికరణ ద్వారా బహిః స్పందతే ।
జానామీతి తమేవ భాంతమనుభాత్యేతత్సమస్తం జగత్
తస్మై శ్రీ గురుమూర్తయే నమ ఇదం శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్తయే ॥ 4 ॥
దేహం ప్రాణమపీంద్రియాణ్యపి చలాం బుద్ధిం చ శూన్యం విదుః
స్త్రీ బాలాంధ జడోపమాస్త్వహమితి భ్రాంతాభృశం వాదినః ।
మాయాశక్తి విలాసకల్పిత మహావ్యామోహ సంహారిణే
తస్మై శ్రీ గురుమూర్తయే నమ ఇదం శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్తయే ॥ 5 ॥
రాహుగ్రస్త దివాకరేందు సదృశో మాయా సమాచ్ఛాదనాత్
సన్మాత్రః కరణోప సంహరణతో యోఽభూత్సుషుప్తః పుమాన్ ।
ప్రాగస్వాప్సమితి ప్రభోదసమయే యః ప్రత్యభిజ్ఞాయతే
తస్మై శ్రీ గురుమూర్తయే నమ ఇదం శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్తయే ॥ 6 ॥
బాల్యాదిష్వపి జాగ్రదాదిషు తథా సర్వాస్వవస్థాస్వపి
వ్యావృత్తా స్వను వర్తమాన మహమిత్యంతః స్ఫురంతం సదా ।
స్వాత్మానం ప్రకటీకరోతి భజతాం యో ముద్రయా భద్రయా
తస్మై శ్రీ గురుమూర్తయే నమ ఇదం శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్తయే ॥ 7 ॥
విశ్వం పశ్యతి కార్యకారణతయా స్వస్వామిసంబంధతః
శిష్యచార్యతయా తథైవ పితృ పుత్రాద్యాత్మనా భేదతః ।
స్వప్నే జాగ్రతి వా య ఏష పురుషో మాయా పరిభ్రామితః
తస్మై శ్రీ గురుమూర్తయే నమ ఇదం శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్తయే ॥ 8 ॥
భూరంభాంస్యనలోఽనిలోంబర మహర్నాథో హిమాంశుః పుమాన్
ఇత్యాభాతి చరాచరాత్మకమిదం యస్యైవ మూర్త్యష్టకమ్ ।
నాన్యత్కించన విద్యతే విమృశతాం యస్మాత్పరస్మాద్విభో
తస్మై శ్రీ గురుమూర్తయే నమ ఇదం శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్తయే ॥ 9 ॥
సర్వాత్మత్వమితి స్ఫుటీకృతమిదం యస్మాదముష్మిన్ స్తవే
తేనాస్వ శ్రవణాత్తదర్థ మననాద్ధ్యానాచ్చ సంకీర్తనాత్ ।
సర్వాత్మత్వ మహావిభూతిసహితం స్యాదీశ్వరత్వం స్వతః
సిద్ధ్యేత్తత్పునరష్టధా పరిణతం చైశ్వర్య-మవ్యాహతమ్ ॥ 10 ॥

I was looking for an appealing chant-along rendition of this great stotra. This is one of the best renditions I found here. Though the the pronunciation of स instead of श in many places, clearly mother tongue (Telugu) influence , needs to be worked on by Smt Harini. In addition it is मूर्तिभेदी not मूत्रि .

Its beautiful but little care might have taken on pronunciation of shree and pashyati, the singer pronounced it as sree, pasyati, its not sa स. Its taalavya shakara श. Also, it is murtibheda vibhagine, not mutri. Pls focus on pronunciation aspects also.
In south India it's mostly pronounced as "Sri".. and sya instead of shya
