    Let’s talk about the #1 way to balance your hormones: fasting.
    There are various methods of fasting. I think the most beneficial methods of fasting are intermittent fasting and prolonged fasting.
    Fasting especially targets the hormone insulin-reducing insulin and improving insulin sensitivity. Reducing insulin has incredible benefits for your health.
    Reducing insulin can potentially help:
    • Decrease inflammation
    • Improve diabetes
    • Improve insulin resistance
    • Decrease fat in the liver
    • Decrease your risk for obesity
    • Improve metabolic syndrome
    • Support the autonomic nervous system
    Fasting is fantastic for many other hormones as well, including:
    1. Leptin
    2. Thyroid stimulating hormone
    3. Androgens
    4. Estrogen
    5. Testosterone
    6. Cortisol
    7. Growth hormone
    8. Prolactin
    Fasting can help support your circadian rhythms. By supporting your circadian rhythms, you’re also supporting and helping to balance certain hormones. Fasting also helps support your gut microbiome, which again may help improve your hormones.

      Same age group, doing the exact same thing 16/8. My doctor felt that was pushing it, but I know myself and I am an either do it or not. Went at the things I knew was too much sugar, just cutting pop (reg & diet) with fasting made a huge difference. Not that I don't have a pop, snacks, but I cut them out of my mindless daily routine, and just being more aware helped. Feel a lot better overall.

Exactly what I needed to help with my getting healthier. Such a good reminder to stick to IF ketogenic regimen! I do resistance training three days a week, fasted, followed by a small amount of lean meat for the meal, and a keto meal about an hour after. On the weekend, while fasting, I get long walks in the sun.

    My only gripe about the "intermittent fasting" topic is that people conflate it with time restricted eating. As the name implies, intermittent fasting is-intermittent-so it's not on a fixed schedule. Both work, and I'm developing the impression that intermittency is actually key. So changing it up is good. The basic fundamental is probably to get 12-16 hours of not eating in any time period, but don't get on a schedule.

    I got into fasting 6.5 years ago after reading Dr. Jason Fung's book on fasting. I also ate keto at that time and 5 years ago I started eating a carnivore diet. I IF daily because it comes naturally. I haven't noticed any changes in my health doing that. I started it to lose weight which I only did when I fasted for days and after that half the weight came back once I started eating again. Fasting is easy when you are not dependent on carbs. My longest fast was 14 days and I could have gone for longer.

    Absolutely true! It was also helpful during the year I had a back injury and had to do either surgery or Chiropractic therapy for a year. I chose therapy! It was painful at first but it worked! My back/spine is better than ever! Fasting helped hold down the inflammation and got me started on my fasting journey. Now menopause is easier to get through without all the debilitating symptoms.

    Currently doing ADF after 30 days of OMAD.
    I think the OMAD has ultimately helped me get used to going without food for an extended period of time so ADF isn’t actually as difficult as it would have been if had I jumped into it right away. With that said, it’s still fairly difficult which is why I’m only doing it for a month.

    • @CarbageMan
      @CarbageMan 2 года назад +3

      Dr Fung likes ADF, but I found it difficult, in the same way Dr Berg describes. It's easier for me to start on the weekend and take long walks to kill the hunger (very effective) then just keep fasting for a while. Delaying breakfast is easy for me, though, as was skipping it, but I decided I needed more protein after losing over 100 pounds.

    • @michellepascale2934
      @michellepascale2934 2 года назад +2

      Adf seemed to help me budge those last several pounds more than anything else I've tried. Something about the "you can eat that tomorrow " mentality helps me. I can do anything for a day! Omad just seems to slow my metabolism over time. I can't really do adf for more than 2 to 4 weeks though it's very intense!

    • @LandOfTheFallen
      @LandOfTheFallen 2 года назад +1

      @@michellepascale2934 OMAD is basically calorie restriction without the counting or the hassle. It’s very intuitive. But it’s still calorie restriction so you’re right, you base metabolic rate would probably drop after about a month, which is why I switched to ADF, which is pretty intense.

    I do random fasting. So sometimes I do 48 hours followed by one meal keto, then another 48 hours fasting. Sometimes I do 72 hours fasting on its own. Sometimes I do a 5 day fast. I try to do a basic 18:6 daily fasting regularly. A
    Out of what I do is based on how I’m feeling, weight and current diet. If I have eaten processed foods or desserts then I try to do a longer fast. Just remember to replace those minerals on long ones.

    It’s been a week since I started IF and keto thanks to you and I am feeling better than ever. I went from 66.5 kg (147pounds) to 63.5 kg (140 pounds). I cut out my snacks and replaced with a few almonds/hazelnuts after my meal(s). I do one or two meals a day depending on my appetite, which is close to non existent at this point but the issue is I cannot eat enough calories. I eat avocado, peanut butter, nuts, eggs and even tho I add everything I eat, it all comes to 700-800 calories or even less. Am I doing something wrong? It cant be the measurement because I use an app that has the whole foods installed and I either weigh or calculate the amount I used with packaged foods.
    Edit: I struggle to stay under 20gr of carbohydrates even though the most carb dense foods I eat is 1-2 cucumber and 4-5 cherry tomatoes (not in the same day)

    I'm only 31 and 170lbs so i don't need to lose any weight, but i have weird, undiagnosed issues with digestion, lack of energy and bloating/gas that trigger other things as anxiety, stress and high blood pressure. I used to eat breakfast and snacks inbetween meals just to keep my energy/blood sugars up just to feel normal but now after experimenting with IF i feel much better when skipping snacks and breakfast and instead focus on just eating well (2-3 times) between 12-7pm. I was afraid of being hungry before, but now i know that feeling passes and it's not actually dangerous at all. My mental state is so much more level and calm when i'm fasting as well.
