Tim, my favorite part of the video was not actually the food, but the "old school" decor, even the cups & dishes; & the glass dividers to separate each booth. It was like an old diner with a modern touch. My parents owned a diner when I was a child - brings back memories.

Lox bagels are delicious. They're are my favorite bagel toppings. Some caviar or salmon eggs on top would make the lox bagel even better. I like how you made the salmon/ wasabi roe and lox bagel. Looks delicious.

You and Micheli seem to be having a spectacular time in New York City enjoying many different types of cuisines. And you mentioned going to a Broadway Show too. This is a super awesome Valentine’s Day gift 🎁 for Michelin. You made her super happy 👬💕!! Honey cake for your honey Michelin is super cool !!
Hi Min Really enjoyed New York and nice to have some company to eat together 🙂. We ended up catching a Broadway show, though I was a half hour late due to lost cameras and wallet...(I need to say that New Yorkers are just class acts, going out of their way to return the items). I heard that the first 30 minutes of the Broadway play was superb from Michelie 😆
@@TimLeeLetsGo I’m sorry to hear that you lost your wallet and camera. Fortunately, they were returned to you. Unfortunately, you had to miss a half hour of the Broadway Show. Every time I order lox and bagels and it's presented to me cut in half like a sandwich, the Jew in me can't help but eat it open faced. My husband gives me the most judgmental look but I don't care, it's how I grew up eating lox and bagels 😂😂 this was a treat to watch. Thank you!
Hey Tim, I grew up on Long Island and currently live in NYC, so needless to say I've been eating great bagels my whole life. However, I also lived in Montreal for five years, so I've become very familiar with their iconic bagels as well. Since you're Canadian, I'm curious about which one you like better! Personally I think it's a tie because they're so different from each other. It's been years since I've been to Montreal, and sometimes I still really crave those St-Viateur and Fairmount bagels 🤤 FYI: Those onions inside the bialy are intentional (that's basically what makes it a bialy). Challah is never eaten with cream cheese (that's what those bagels on the platter are for). If you want to truly enjoy challah in all its glory, just schmear it with butter. Glad you enjoyed everything though!
I agree with you that both styles of bagel are good. I do prefer the Montreal style however. Less bread. I do appreciate Fairmount but give a slight edge to St. Viateur.

Tim-Excellent review. You seem like a super-friendly guy. I would make two points: 1. Do not mix the sable and the lox. Enjoy each one alone. Typically, sable is eaten on the plate. 2. The best way to enjoy a bialy is to toast it. The "stuff" in the bialy is onion. Bagels should never be toasted when fresh. Either way, it's all good and tasty. Enjoy!
Thank you so much and really appreciate the tips! I knew that about the bagels being eaten fresh, after some suggestions from the servers. Thank you so much 🙏

Wonderful video. I love bagels and smoked salmon and I’ve heard that Russ and Daughters is legendary. In your video, you weren’t sure if the Bialy was intentionally filled in the center. Yes, that’s traditional, most often with onion. Also, a bialy isn’t boiled before baking like a bagel. Some people mistakenly refer to Russ and Daughters as a “Jewish deli” (like Katz’s Deli which serves deli meats like pastrami) but it is actually called an “appetizing store”. Appetizing stores emerged in NYC with the arrival of Eastern European Jewish immigrants in the early 20th century, and were stores that primarily sold fish and dairy items (but no meat products) to comply with Jewish (kosher) dietary laws not to mix and eat milk and meat products together. “Appetizing” was the term given to foods that go well with bagels. There used to be many such “appetizing” stores in NYC, but Russ and Daughters is one of the last standing.

I prefer any of the breads to be toasted to add texture and crunch underneath the moist softness of the cream cheese and fish. Also, adding capers gives more flavor and zing. Great experience!
If it’s worth your time and effort, you can take the skin home and fry it up in oil or butter until it’s crisp and eat it. It’s like chips. I bought a whole side of smoked salmon from a restaurant supply, and the skin is sitting in my freezer waiting to be fried!
