Is Money In The Bank the best stipulation in wrestling? Let us know in the comments.
i think you might have had a broken keyboard when you typed out the description 😆
Royal Rumble then MITB.
@@Momo-zz8fl That's what I was thinking too, but I also have a lot of nostalgia for the Rumble!
As a kid, I always wanted them to show the money. As a teen I was sad when all there was inside was a piece of paper
RVD
based on the thumbnail i was expecting jericho saying adam sandler came up with the idea.
Thats the point. It's called clickbait.
It should've stayed as a Mania special match. It looked cool and felt important.
The booking of MITB the last 5 years has ruined its prestige and it's time to retire the match
Agreed.
They have done everything they can do with this concept.
I agree. Don't like stipulation based PPVs (except maybe War Games). MITB should stay at mania and Elemination Chamber should headline Survior Series, the match fit perfectly.
@@hutrod7721Señior Money in the Bank would like a word with you. Accompanied by Mami
They don't need to retire the match. They've just had champions they're reluctant to take the belts off of because their metrics show solid business w/'em in the championship position(s)..
The WWE just needs to book ppl into the match that could believably beat & dethrone the champ frm the time they're booked in the match. & Not book mitb as a developmental-prop. (Guys like Edge & Chris J. Didn't need further polishing or development; mic/in-ring all-around total package(s) primed for possible title run(s) & the wwe actually 'pulled-the-trigger' on them becoming champ as pay-off outcome. Proven solid concept when done right..
(No slight of DP, he's got it all & i think he'd make a great world champ, but the payoff follow-through is wwe pulling trigger, & booking him to win a main event title. (Either off of Roman or Seth, as of right now the Seth route makes most sense for him currently) but as mentioned wwe's reluctant to change titles frm the current champs.
I do agree it hurts the mitb prestige when the winner goes after the midcard title.
[& when the mitb match winners still aren't booked strong (believable) in-general]
Vince was right on this one, I CAN'T IMAGINE MONEY IN THE BANK WITHOUT A BRIEFCASE.
"It'd been better in a fanny pack." - Dwayne Johnson aka Bob Stone
He's not wrong for once.
If you hang the paper on the top of the arena, issue is if the paper would fly off. So it needs something heavy to hold... therefore a briefcase.
Still I didn't expect that Chris Jericho's the reason they have MITB.
“Edge didn’t wanna do it”
He missed “until we told him we’ll let him win.”
This idea is made believable because of what each of the 3 contributed:
Jericho - how to get wrestlers on the Mania card
Bryan G - creative name/wording
Vince - how to make money off of it
Vince not just make money off of it, but it visually looks better than a piece of paper on a string.
Creative
It really helped legitimize it by pushing the person who won it. Edge took off like a rocket after that.
Chris had already won world titles by then, so pushing Edge was the right choice, I think in an alternate universe if Christian was the winner, things would have went similar.
@@SilentHotdog28 I feel like Edge was so heavily inve$ted in by then (& a good dude/great worker), They HAD to give him that push from MidCard Singles/UpperCard Tag (where he belonged) to the top. The WWF was trying to push Edge since like late '98. That was the whole point of The Brood (which, Yeah, I don't like that fun fact either). Before The Brood, they did the whole Titantron/Vignettes "He's Coming" nonsense that really never paid off for 9/10 Superstars who were unknowns & about the same for the big names (Y2J being the MAJOR exception. Tazz perhaps - But they eventually muffed his character up beyond repair so it didn't really matter). It was one Beaver Cleavage after the next.
@@ATCRyderX Yeah Edge was the logical choice, but I think Christian could have excelled with it also. He has always been amazing on the mic, solid in the ring, can play both babyface and heel, especially heel. It would have worked.
Everytime I see Chris, I just think “BRING IT INNNNN MAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN” 😂😂
DRINK IT INNNNN MAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNM!!!

Anyone ever tell Jericho Edge DID have a submission finisher? Having said that the Edgeucator never really got over.
Lol because it’s dumb.
@@Jay_Digital I agree. I've seen worse, but it's up there. Not as bad as the PTO, but now that I think of it, along the same lines.
Hot take: it was actually a pretty good looking finisher, like a mix of the Sharpshooter and Liontamer. Edge should’ve used it more
Invented after? (Not sure)

I'm not the biggest fan of Chris Jericho as a wrestler, but boy do i love his interviews. The guy is a fantastic storyteller!
Well yea the best stories are filled with lies.
@@tylermcnally8232how do you know there lies
Yeah his mic abilities gave him the edge over the likes of Benoit and Malenko.
If he is a fantastic storyteller, he should tell the story about the NDA.
@@johnnywalker5745 crazy how everyone just forgot about that
It sounds like what jericho is saying is what my friends in my current kitchen think: it’s easier to memorize the recipe when it’s yours.
That MITB match to this day is the best one.
Same
The shockmaster called he wants his shoes back 😂
YES!
Thats so cool, i wasn't aware chris Jericho was the co creator of MITB, that idea has led to so many memorable moments in wwe how is he not a hall of famer
Because he's presently under contract with another wrestling company.
Once he leaves AEW (or stays but retires as a wrestler) he'll likely be nominated.
@@jonathancampbell5231He can still be nominated and accept working for AEW
Crazy, he started MITB, but never won a MITB contract.
Adam Sandler at a paper view event?? Heh, all I remember was that smackdown taping of him meeting Earl H. Phrasing him for the hardest job in WWE.
Jericho is such an amazing storyteller. Could listen to him tell stories for hours.
It was actually a brilliant idea and eventually it lead to guys spontaneously cashing in the title shot right after a big title match. Originally I'm sure the plan was for it to be where a guy would announce his title shot in advance but this is so much a better way to do not knowing when it might happen. As long as the current champ is in a WWE ring he can get cashed in on.
Nah from the very beginning it was meant to be an anytime anywhere type thing.. they pushed that aspect from the beginning when talking about the terms of the contract.. also it’s not the first time we’ve seen that since the hardcore title also operated that way.
@@LG215x Only difference is hard-core title can take place anywhere. MITB still has to take place in a ring of some kind.
@@joemckim1183 Wouldn't it be kool if they do something like Seth Rollins training in a training ring, gets belted around quite a bit while preparing for his next show, Damian Priest comes out of nowhere and cashes in?
I mean you don't get the crowd pop, but it's a kool new dynamic.
@@SilentHotdog28 As long as Damien brought a WWE referee with him.

MITB was a cool idea. Played out now.
Yeah because of the stupid PPV
It belongs at WM
And who cares about the women's MITB anyways
Just cancel that already
It’s only played out because it got its own PLE. They should’ve kept it at wrestlemania. I’m good with the women’s mitb match but I feel like they should either get that or the Royal rumble, they don’t need every match type the men get. Sorry if I sound misogynistic I’m really not trying to but let’s be honest wrestling has gotten played out ever since they added the women’s Royal rumble, hell in a cell, and money in the bank every year.
It should've stayed a WrestleMania attraction
Now that Vince is out, a part of me wants Jericho to end his career (whenever the time comes) in the WWE. Imagine (as cheesy as it may sound) Royal Rumble and number 30 is coming out, as the countdown hits 4 it changes to Jerichos classic countdown (just to get the fans going) and Judas starts playing. He comes in and maybe wins it or juuuust loses it just to get some storyline going, eventually after a few months he wins a title and has a really good title run for some months, not 1 month or 2, at least 5-7 and maybe end with a (again, cheesy) title vs career match thing at Mania wyere he loses (maybe he is a heel up to that match but the crowd still cheers)
Could listen to Chris tell stories all day
Great segment
I thought the name came from Lil Scrappy- Money In The Bank. Back when that song dropped it was constantly in rotation. Instantly takes me back to high school.

It made the briefcase into a regular weapon in pro-wrestling.
To be fair, IRS and Debra McMichael (during Steve's Horsemen term) made the briefcase as common weapon.
@@CinemaMackyes.
The Greatest WWF Video Game ever created, WWF WarZone, which was like '97 or '98 (OG Playstation/N64) had "Weapons" Matches ("Hardcore" wasn't coined yet) which had a Briefcase you could rock your opponent with & I'd always think, as a kid, "When the hell have they ever used Briefcases?!" LOL & There was no Irvin R. Scheister in that game. They also had a like 27 Inch CRT Television & a Camcorder. Nothing made sense but the shovel, Tables, 2x4's & Chairs. Perhaps they were thinking WAY ahead.
That's AWESOME! I love that.
Every time I forget Chris isn’t American I hear him pronounce “about” and remember “I’m from Winnipeg you idiot!”
great job Jerhico
This is the first time I ever really noticed his hair plugs. Looks like full on doll hair. Will never unsee it now.
He'll make you sign a NDA if you mention it to anyone, so better keep quiet.
I actually loved the championship scramble. It provides a lot of tension to who could win. The first two guys have the best chance of making a pinfall, but the last guy comes out with the most energy, but he might not have enough time to take the win. Just stack the match with 3 guys who can believably win the match story-wise and you’re cooking with fire
The fact that Edge didn’t want to do it is kinda crazy considering that when I think about the money in the bank match Edge is who comes to mind.
Where can I watch these full interviews?
There are so many good things they could still do today that they don't. For example the crowd keeps chanting meat every time two beef planets collide. I would make an entire meat division and then have a title especially for these guys. This way you can have Otis, Ivar, Bronson Reed, And everybody who looks like they do (And you don't have to have a specific height and weight) But you just know if you have a big fat guy that you bring them in and you build this division up people are going to love it. Of course guys like Wardlow, Powerhouse Hobbs, Miro and similar bodybuilds can be inside of it too because we want to see these super heavyweights fight it out. This would allow you to showcase guys that normally don't get to be showcased because not everyone is a Big Show and not every giant can work with every small guy (looking at you Omos).
I think this would capitalize a lot on a trend that people want.
Furthermore I would have what I would call a Bruiserweight division. The Chris Benoit's That are just under 6 ft tall and know how to handle a ton of chops and technical wrestling. We're talking about your big strong boys like Tyler Bate and the British strong style. The Japanese strong style. Maybe a couple of select lucha libre guys. Shinsuke Nakamura, & a lot of that NXT roster would work well in it. This way each division has a certain flavor. Then you separate the RAW and the Smackdown brands And you can distinctively keep the big boys on one and the smaller guys on the other. And then the normal division can be run across promotionally. This way each show has a distinct flavor and you can find out which ratings are doing better without them intermingling.
The heavyweight division will always be the heavyweight division and the intercontinental and US titles will always be irrespective of the other divisions. Now the one problem will be you've got too many titles. That's kind of understandable. So I would not have two world titles in this situation. I would make one universal champion and then that would be the big boy over the entire company. This way the intercontinental title could basically be the main title on the flagship show of RAW and the United States title could be the main title on Smackdown.
Then the bruiserweight title and the meat title could act as secondary titles on each show which would basically be the brand distinction. So you have your niche title which would be your hardcore and your European title If we were doing this 1990s style, then you would have your brand title which would be the intercontinental in the US title, and then you would have the WWE title which would be the total company title. Everything would be tiered properly. If you make an argument in that case there would not be too many titles.
Early on it was really cool and felt important
Whoooo is in the back laughing so hard cause I’m like really😊😊😊
I enjoyed the scramble and wish it had been done again.
Money In The Bank should be part of Wrestlemania

Money in the Bank belongs on WM period
It was born there and it should've always stayed there
There should create a new rule for Money in the Bank, for people who have never won a WWE title to be the winner of the match, that way we don't have Cena or fucking Brock Lesnar as Money in the Bank winners, you might as well let Hulk Hogan cash the briefcase lol
I think MITB is a great idea I was from that era and I never knew why they call it MITB. It’s like having money in the bank
Don’t mean to SPOIL IT for you, but Sandler shows up at the VERY END after 7 Minutes!!!
Yes. That’s how a story works. Otherwise it would be a five second video of Jericho saying “ I spotted Adam Sandler at Money in the Bank”

the guy apparently created AEW as well.
I wonder if this is why edge created that odd cool leg submission?
I think that it needs to be a Wrestlemania match again and not have its own pay-per-view. It is unique enough to only showcase it at Wrestlemania. Same with the Elimimination Chamber match. Keep it for Wrestlemania only.
Ofc Jericho is trying to take credit for this idea 😂 man's the next Hogan

Edge had the Edgecator submission. That match would've been awesome tbh.
If *WCW* was still around (& Pro Wrestling wasn't such an embarrassment) When Money In The Bank came to fruition; They'd have their Ted Turner's CheckBook Version & hang an ATM from the rafters or something. *ATM Match.*
Then *ECW* would have their version: Sumbody left their wallet in da Brown Buick out back, Gotta Break tha Winda *Match.* looool
I mean edge has stated that he originally didn’t want to be in the match. So I wonder who would they would have had won had edge not competed?

What about the educator? Edge's modified version on a sharpshooter
For someone who’s apparently come up with all these great ideas, you’d think he’d be doing more than being out of shape and taking bumps from people half of his age…. Something isn’t connecting
It’s a shame Jericho never won a money in the bank match
