The UK has that ability in spades, with all the raw materials under our feet ! We should not be considering anything less than self protection using our own materials! All the Tories are doing is delaying some of the aspects of Net Zero - they still plan on getting rid of oil and gas boilers - but just at a later date. Notice how it's "decarbonisation" - carbon dioxide is not the enemy, and carbon dioxide is used in crop growing for goodness sake. Also, India and China are building lots of coal power stations and people think that going for Net Zero is going to have a big effect.

Net zero by 2050 won’t happen anyway. Most people haven’t a clue how net zero would happen and what the implications on our wealth and health would be. I agree regards Nuclear, but it can’t get to where it should be for several decades yet.

It is an empirical fact that there are not enough rare (the clue is in the name) earth metals to make enough electric cars to replace the current fleet of cars in the world. Rarely and in moments of honesty they admit they intend to strip the working class of cars. The working class will be walking, waiting for hours of our lives for buses and effectively have a curfew imposed when the public transport stops for the night. You better be home by midnight, probably 2300hrs but more likely home by 2200hrs.

Net zero? A noble sentiment. Not possible at this time. We should be making pans to reach net zero in the future, not trying to impose it on the people right now. Not forgetting that the UK is responsible for only 1% of all global emissions. So WE are not desperate to save the planet by reducing our 1% to zero. Rest easy all you climate worriers!

I lived through the coal strikes in the early 70’s and saw the coal strikes in 1984. We should have subsidised the cola mines and the steel works to maintain jobs and communities, but just as important, to maintain the countries own supplies of coal and steel to avoid being held to ransom by Russia and China. Maggie Thatcher’s drive to close down the unions and introduce privatisation was a death knell for this country. It all seemed great at the time, as people got more money in their pockets. But the private companies wanted profits and now we are all paying extortionate fees for useless service, and communities have been devastated allowing migrants to move in and takeover the working class heart of this country.

I was born and raised in the S.Yorks coal fields. I lived in working class communities where family life was good, communities were safe and the country had cheap energy bills. I was in discussion with the chief engineer of one of the countries top coal mining companies. He told me they had 300 years worth of coal at current usage waiting to be mined. That said, I’d be happy to upgrade the nuclear option too. The big problem with nuclear is we don’t mine Uranium in the UK. Therefore we will always be at risk of being blackmailed by other countries we buy from. That said, Australia has the largest world deposit and Canada is the second largest exporter so we could find ‘friendly’ suppliers. So let’s ditch the climate nonsense start mining coal to run our power stations and increase nuclear to 20% of our annual demand. Then our economy will grow again and energy to get poverty will be over for generations of Brits and our children can enjoy cheap heating bills as we did.

Well she maybe right about NUke power, But someone pulled the plug on the large power generators around our country that could have been converted to LNG, and kept the thousands of jobs those power station created, plus all the support industries. Many of the big Engineering companies , English Electric/ GEC/ C. A. Parsons , Babcock/John Brown the list goes on that is where our manpower, has been caste off, and now all those jobs no longer exist. Lack of foresight by the crowd in the commons, and other devious types. So good luck all you people in Cumbria long may you generate power.
