  • ‘The Chancellor seems to want make no decisions about the economy! She wants to hand the power of fiscal policy to the OBR.'
Former PM, Liz Truss, blasts Labour's plans as the BoE admits it's own failings were responsible for the financial crisis in Autumn 2022. This comes after Rachel Reeves laid out new plans to help fix an alleged £20bn fiscal black hole left over from the Tories.

I remember working for a web studio in the early days of Blair. We dealt mainly with small start-ups and were partly funded by charities. In reality we were swamped with demands for websites and all the hardware and software required to maintain them by local (and not so local) quangos. The whole lot of them were basically the "do you know who I am" types, taking us for everything they could get, often taking more than the pittance they paid, while threatening to have our funding investigated if we complained.
      I've despised them ever since.

I'd suspected someone had shorted our currency just before that budget, but whenI found out the BoE had actually debased our currency I was livid.
So basically they overthrew a democratic government, whether you liked them or not, rather than letting the British Public make their decision, and also exasperated price rises by inflating our currency, which hammers the poorest.
    That's borderline treason.

It seems we do not have enough decent finance people as MPs (including Sunak) and do not have decent financial journalism. Jacob. “Is it because politicians (referring to Labour) have lost confidence in their own judgement??” He is unfortunatly being overly generous, they have no experience at all in running government and therefore the country and have no confidence.
Liz wasn’t given a chance to either succeed or fail built she was correct, as was Thatcher, put money into the pockets of the people and the economy will grow.
It is essential to keep money circulating, the only way for taxes to be earned and continually top up the Treasury coffers. For every £1.20 transaction, .20p is passed over to HMRC, multiply that one transaction by millions every minute and you will begin to understand the very basics.
The Bank of England was responsible for 2/3 of the interest rate calamity yet Liz took responsibility for 100%…speaks volumes, the BoE and OPR wanted her out of office and kept her in the dark.
Sadly she moved too quickly, accepted the “research” that was handed to her, best plan was to wait a while and do her own.
Labour are guilty of the same naivety, they have done no real research, not thinking of consequences and it will crash down around their heads and the voting public will pay for their errors…very heavily.

@@VincentPeters-vs2us It is therefore reasonable to assume the comment is based on tunnel vision Socialist understanding…of very little? Dangerous ground to read one sided reports for guidance, Thatcher read them all and was responsible for turning the country around after draining the inherited debt swamp. Like all things and all politicians, they lose direction and control. Some people will say, somewhat cynically, politicians are only human.
Time again will tell, let’s sit back and wait for the Socialist ideology to fail yet again, let the current knee jerk decisions continue as we watch the tears of laughter drip into our over priced coffee.
We have a new conservative style government in power with zero experience in decision making, confirmed by their announcements to date. Simplicity itself to sit on the benches opposite and gripe, now the shoe’s on the other foot, let the circus begin….the clowns are already in the ring.
