Hey, I don't know if you read coments or not, but I saw your review of Zapper and it made me think you might want to check out Bugdom. I only remembered it because in both games you're bugs -not because the play style is similar. As a kid and now that I'm older I think it's a cool game (although meant for kids). Just an idea.
I'd say chances are a number of the characters are based around his friends. He likely decided to make a game where he and his friends (along their lifestyle, likely stoners) inserted themselves into a game they likely all like, is my assumption. Considering he's from Detroit I find this all the more likely.
Surprisingly, he's still working on the game right now and so far I can tell that the sprites had massive improvement and so did the animations. He definitely took a lot of the criticism to heart, and I'm pretty excited to see what the final product looks like.

I see some things were added and updated like the battle screens no longer have google image results.

i really appreciate the review nitro, I thank you very much for the constructive criticism. stuff like this is what is going to help my game get better, I really want this to be something original and not known as a ripoff.
I think a good idea now would be to start up a new project with fresh new ideas. Learn from your mistakes, take some time off, brainstorm. Create a new concept and try not to rely too much on one single source of inspiration. Have a more balanced mixture. Rather than outlining the plot or story elements first, start with the basic gist of the gameplay. Show off what you've created and then build a story around your own gameplay. What I mean is, don't just import a combat system from another RPGmaker game, try to create something fully unique.
Oi man some people may give you flack for the game, but back in middle school I made way worse RPG Maker games that were more blatant rip-offs/fangames. Years later I am now almost finished developing my own more original concept, there's always a way to turn it around dude!
Maybe you should make it a bit more clear you based this on LISA? i'm sure you can make something good in the future, just listen to criticism and improve

This game actually gave me some ideas: One: A party member who is a former thug of Buzzo. He was a regular weed junkie before turning to Joy. Two: Main characters father takes him out to karate lessons or out hunting, where the main character would either shoot a deer or gut one, which would determine difficulty. (Thanks Nitro) Three: Gas would be a resource fought over by gangs. Four: The main character would obtain an adult bicycle from killing a Joy mutant and get a key for the bike's padlock.
I legit think that you should revisit this game when the update comes out. He's been hard at work trying to make this game better and I think he's made some serious improvements, such as a WAAAY more appealing art style, some really smooth new animations, and hopefully better, more tasteful writing. I feel like that whole "missing file" problem could actually work itself into a game. Like, what if there's a super boss, but in order to find it, you need to fix its RPG Maker file.
Okay, this was not mentioned in the video so I doubt it was mentioned by anyone else. A youtuber by the name of Lineder had played this game and him and a few friends went through the games code I believed and found out that the person who made this game took all of Lisa's assets and basically repainted over existing character models and reused textures from the game, scrapping it all together to make...this. I sometimes worry that my game will be seen as a lisa rip off because you can soak enemies in oil and that makes fire attacks do more, and I have a guitarist party member. Or could be seen as a undertale rip off its an earthbound like rpg where you can spare enemies if you like. but I at least try to take from a lot of different sources and I try to put some ideas in it that I have never seen in a game for the hell of it. Oh my god, replacing the missing file with your own version is genius. I’ve actually done it before in the past with other games. **EDIT:** One of those games was XCOM: TFTD, I was running with a mod that adds loads of new terrain, and it had a bug where I’d crash upon loading ship terror missions due to 4 missing map files. So I copied the 2 other map files for the ship maps from the base game which were there, and copied and renamed the files to the names of the missing files, and it worked perfectly; problem solved.
This looks amazing. Somebody should make a fan edit of a fan edit/kind of like a complete re-tooling from the code "☝ /up" of this with the much needed addition of current dank ass memes. Add in more mature themes like pixelated 8-bit boobies(you know juvenile BULLOCKS etc.), needless cursing('cause that's so grown-up and bad-arse) buckets upon buckets of blood(red ketchup excess) and copious amounts of gore(literally gore overkill). Make it super self aware/ self referential and awkwardly meta (-self indulgent humor)
Nitro Rad for the record about all these claims of people viciously harassing the author of this game is rather exaggerated. Reading the comments on the gamejolt page of this game shows 95% constructive criticism 5% unnecessary comments. The author soaks up compliments like gravy on bread but just flat refuses to reflect or rethink on some of the constructive criticism given to him. It's kinda like that scene from that one comedy movie called "The Dictator" where someone spouts off the line "Do you want only compliments or do you want the truth?" How is the author going to further improve his content if all he wants is compliments and shuns and rejects valid criticism of his work? Why should he get a participation trophy simply for TRYING or making an attempt at a project? Now there's a very big difference about using a product of poor quality and being rightfully angry about the shoddy craftsmanship and using a product of poor quality and being just down right cruel to the content creator. Escape from Detroit falls rightfully into the first category. What is truly upsetting to me about this whole project is that the author stated himself that he is in the process of hopefully pushing his project onto Steam. Meaning more or less he's most likely expecting people to pay money for this hot mess of a game and that is scary to me. If you expect money for your product in the future then you are not immune to criticism period! Even though it's free at the moment it is still not immune to valid constructive criticism. Yet again we have a another lazy content creator attempting to utilize bare minimum effort for monetary rewards. Don't believe me? Go on steam and check out another RPG maker title called Destiny Warriors for 2$. And quoting the game description on Destiny Warriors page is as follows: An epic 12 hour RPG, heavily inspired from Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6 and the Dragon Quest series. Thirteen years after incredibly powerful spirit beast were sealed into the souls of children, they threaten to break free and cause havoc across he land. Sounds familiar to you? It's basically a bootleg Naruto game presented in shoddy RPG maker form. You should really do an episode on this hot mess of a game as well. I brought up that second title Destiny Warriors for the good reason that new content creators looking to monetize their creations seem to either not know or blatantly don't care to know the difference between inspiration and plagiarism. These are the same people who wish to constantly blur the lines and muddy the water on the two concepts sadly... *Update* Finished with a bit of light research on the game and low and behold, this game actually WAS on steam before it was removed surprisingly. A user by the name of seashelbby did an in-depth review of the game quoting "Escape from the Detroit was originally released on March 6th 2016 on steam. However the page was deleted and remade as a workshop title for RPG Maker and put on Gamejolt almost a year later. Not for copyright infringement or anything, just the creator not knowing how to upload the updated version of the game without doing everything all over again." Wow.....

Every time I go back and watch this hilarious video I always feel like this game must’ve been a joke. I’m sure some of it was accidental, but 90% of this game just strikes me as a really bad parody made by a kid who thought this shit would be hilarious.
I kinda hate to say it but I actually do have a fan game in the works as a sort of love letter to the game that helped me get over a severe creative slump and convince me that games are still worth defending.

As a solo developer myself I don't want to rip on another dev (especially since I haven't actually ever released a game yet) but...that Level Up music floored me especially as a TOP fan
There was a community project to make the game better, with improved music, graphics and gameplay.. the game maker (thecrazywun) used allot the assets, stopped talking and everyone gave up on the whole thing. *EDIT* There's a second server of which still has him on, and is filled with new game updates and a bustling community
My theory on the game creators logic about "fan" games and "inspirations" is because it doesn't take place in the same universe as Lisa and is mostly close to the game with it's design and gameplay

I sometimes worry that my game will be seen as a lisa rip off because you can soak enemies in oil and that makes fire attacks do more, and I have a guitarist party member. Or could be seen as a undertale rip off its an earthbound like rpg where you can spare enemies if you like. but I at least try to take from a lot of different sources and I try to put some ideas in it that I have never seen in a game for the hell of it. Like Where else in the gaming seen can you play as a bucket wielding deer? so Looking like this game, I think I will be ok. There is no dabbing in lesaria. Its a dabbing free zone! I am rambling. Basically I hope I can hit the inspired fresh hold and not the rip off zone.
The fact that you made a game in the first place is impressive overall.

Oh my god, replacing the missing file with your own version is genius. I’ve actually done it before in the past with other games. **EDIT:** One of those games was XCOM: TFTD, I was running with a mod that adds loads of new terrain, and it had a bug where I’d crash upon loading ship terror missions due to 4 missing map files. So I copied the 2 other map files for the ship maps from the base game which were there, and copied and renamed the files to the names of the missing files, and it worked perfectly; problem solved.

This looks amazing. Somebody should make a fan edit of a fan edit/kind of like a complete re-tooling from the code "☝ /up" of this with the much needed addition of current dank ass memes. Add in more mature themes like pixelated 8-bit boobies(you know juvenile BULLOCKS etc.), needless cursing('cause that's so grown-up and bad-arse) buckets upon buckets of blood(red ketchup excess) and copious amounts of gore(literally gore overkill). Make it super self aware/ self referential and awkwardly meta (-self indulgent humor)
Nitro Rad for the record about all these claims of people viciously harassing the author of this game is rather exaggerated. Reading the comments on the gamejolt page of this game shows 95% constructive criticism 5% unnecessary comments. The author soaks up compliments like gravy on bread but just flat refuses to reflect or rethink on some of the constructive criticism given to him. It's kinda like that scene from that one comedy movie called "The Dictator" where someone spouts off the line "Do you want only compliments or do you want the truth?" How is the author going to further improve his content if all he wants is compliments and shuns and rejects valid criticism of his work? Why should he get a participation trophy simply for TRYING or making an attempt at a project?
Now there's a very big difference about using a product of poor quality and being rightfully angry about the shoddy craftsmanship and using a product of poor quality and being just down right cruel to the content creator. Escape from Detroit falls rightfully into the first category. What is truly upsetting to me about this whole project is that the author stated himself that he is in the process of hopefully pushing his project onto Steam. Meaning more or less he's most likely expecting people to pay money for this hot mess of a game and that is scary to me. If you expect money for your product in the future then you are not immune to criticism period! Even though it's free at the moment it is still not immune to valid constructive criticism.
Yet again we have a another lazy content creator attempting to utilize bare minimum effort for monetary rewards. Don't believe me? Go on steam and check out another RPG maker title called Destiny Warriors for 2$. And quoting the game description on Destiny Warriors page is as follows: An epic 12 hour RPG, heavily inspired from Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6 and the Dragon Quest series. Thirteen years after incredibly powerful spirit beast were sealed into the souls of children, they threaten to break free and cause havoc across he land. Sounds familiar to you? It's basically a bootleg Naruto game presented in shoddy RPG maker form. You should really do an episode on this hot mess of a game as well.
I brought up that second title Destiny Warriors for the good reason that new content creators looking to monetize their creations seem to either not know or blatantly don't care to know the difference between inspiration and plagiarism. These are the same people who wish to constantly blur the lines and muddy the water on the two concepts sadly...

Finished with a bit of light research on the game and low and behold, this game actually WAS on steam before it was removed surprisingly. A user by the name of seashelbby did an in-depth review of the game quoting "Escape from the Detroit was originally released on March 6th 2016 on steam. However the page was deleted and remade as a workshop title for RPG Maker and put on Gamejolt almost a year later. Not for copyright infringement or anything, just the creator not knowing how to upload the updated version of the game without doing everything all over again." Wow.....

Every time I go back and watch this hilarious video I always feel like this game must’ve been a joke. I’m sure some of it was accidental, but 90% of this game just strikes me as a really bad parody made by a kid who thought this shit would be hilarious.

But in all honesty, I appreciate you trying to offer both concrit and a bit of positivity in a negative review, even for a game as blatantly subpar as this one is. It is easy and entertaining to tear others down for fun and rip on them for views, but the challenge and respect comes from trying to give the benefit of the doubt and offer legitimate advice.

As a solo developer myself I don't want to rip on another dev (especially since I haven't actually ever released a game yet) but...that Level Up music floored me especially as a TOP fan
There was a community project to make the game better, with improved music, graphics and gameplay..
the game maker (thecrazywun) used allot the assets, stopped talking and everyone gave up on the whole thing.

My theory on the game creators logic about "fan" games and "inspirations" is because it doesn't take place in the same universe as Lisa and is mostly close to the game with it's design and gameplay
