    The Scarpa Rush Mid GTX really is no joke. They are pretty lightweight, fit and feel like slippers, protect well from rocks through the sole, have amazing ankle support and are breathable enough for a waterproof boot. I've taken mine on all sorts of trails in Colorado and they can handle anything, and they are deceivingly durable as I have hiked out of canyons up scree and along sheer cliff faces as well as numerous river crossings (10+ in one hike). One hell of a vegan hiking boot.

      @@BackpackingTV hello, I'm 50 years old, a man, and I would really like to start backpacking, both because I am looking for an activity that I would enjoy, love the outdoors, and also, I think moving around like that would be good for my health.
      I am living in Virginia, on the coast, and I've been looking at some of the trail opportunities are in this area and in the states surrounding me.
      I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but at the same time if there's one thing that I have learned from all of the videos I watched both yours and others it's to gear will make or break whether you enjoy yourself, and in some cases survive.
      With that in mind, can you recommend me bare-bones what I would need, and maybe's recommendations how a person should start out one overnight, the weekend? Single day? I want to go into this the right way, but I'm hoping it's something I can do for a while.
      Thank you for reading this very long diatribe, and any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated

      @@keithziegler8881 finding a local guide service for your first true outing will help alleviate the usual stresses. Can be pricey, but well worth the cost if it leads to better mental and physical health in the long run. Either that or just start small and local. Camp off your back in a local state park. Relying only on your backpack for a long car camping trip. It's more challenging than it sounds.

    The hillsound packstack is a brilliant idea! Hyperlite mountain gear pods are the only other company i have seen make a product shaped to stack horizontally in your pack! If anyone has hiked for some time they know the horizontal stacking system! Vertically if you have no bother choice. Even tents i separate the tent poles from main body and rainfly. Put poles outside my pack in my waterbottle pocket and tent, parts, etc inside my pack horizontally. Good stuff! Hike on!

    I know it's not a new tent either, but I'd be really curious to hear your thoughts about the Klymit Maxfield 2. I've been finding it recently for around $330. It's very roomy, supposedly great in heavy weather (rain/wind) and with condensation, has a huge vestibule, etc. At just over half the cost of the Big Agnes and Sea to Summit offerings, it's certainly quite tempting! Thanks again for the excellent videos. Just picked up a Mystery Ranch Bridger 65 and am stoked to try it out on an upcoming trip.

    I’m very into this 3N1 concept from Big Agnes. I’m currently using the UST Monarch, which also is a modular concept. Works great for my uses, and this BA option seems like the lighter weight, smaller packing option if I wanted to upgrade.
    I do wish BA would offer regular-wide sizes in their bags though. My shoulders are quite broad for my height, and I find it uncomfortable to fit into bags with less than 64” in the shoulder girth. That would be my only hesitation.

    That 110 hours of GPS claim is borderline scam claim without the small print - this is a 10-minute interval tracking. A far cry of Garmin's UltraTrac which tracks every minute and on the newest Fenix 7 can score roughly 90 hours without solar charging received and with pulse sensor on.

    I like the look of the hoodie, but the only things holding me back is that I wish they had a draw string to cinch the hood, and they don't have thumb holes. All the pictures I've seen look like the hood is huge, which is great to fit hats underneath but I have a small head and would like the option of a more secure fit especially in cold windy conditions or when I'm sleeping in it, I move around a lot so anything I wear on my head never stays on.

      I’d imagine his position as a RUclipsr has a lot to consider with pack size. Carrying various camera gear, batteries, etc. He might also just be carrying extra gear in general so he can test multiple pieces of gear during each trip.
      Other factors are he’s historically said he likes to have lots of pockets for organizing, and prefers to not have any equipment expect maybe a tent on the outside of the pack. All that leads to a slightly larger pack size.

    • @BackpackingTV
      @BackpackingTV  2 года назад +1

      I know lots of people prefer a much smaller set up. But this is what I consistently use, and as noted below since I carry so much camera gear, it's what I need. But also, I think it's the most easy set up for newer backpackers who haven't learned to go really lightweight/minimal.
