    I'm sorry, but this take on the Pistons it's really off the mark.
    1- Coaching staff NEEDS to be held accountable in large part for this. Monty had no desire to coach and he's showing it clearly. He plays bad line-ups and seems like he's just bidding his time until he gets fired just so he can enjoy that money for his contract sitting confortably at home in his couch. I mean, playing Stewart at the 4? Really? Anyone with eyes can see it's an absolute atrocity. Plus, Monty is known for getting into conflicts with young players and robbing them of their confidence. The shit he did in Phoenix is the same shit he's doing now with Ivey and Ausar. It's just shameful to watch.
    2- The front office also needs to be held accountable as well, for trying to force a coach who didn't want the job into getting it, plus making some of the dumbest acquisitions in recent years, like Bagley and Wiseman. They are piss poor players whom their teams soon found out that they were not NBA caliber players and sought to dump them at the first chance they got to any idiot who would have them, which in this case was the Detroit Pistons. They have one pretty decent Center in Duren and then 3 others who are just plain terrible. There is no other way to say this other than this is just a perfect example of what piss poor management looks like.
    3- The lack of shooting to provide floor spacing for Cade to operate is another great example at how bad this roster has been assembled. Some people have been taking shots at Cade claiming that maybe he isn't all that good. Guess what, he's the second player in the NBA who suffers more Blitzes, only being topped by Luka. That's how much the other teams don't really respect the remaining squad as it is constructed and quickly realized that if they're able to stop Cade there's nothing the rest of the team can do. Are we really pretending that teams are concerned with guys like Hayes and Stewart when they're sharing the court at the same time as Cade? You just need to watch a game to realise that they just don't care.
    Yes, lack of confidence as hit them hard and they're having a hard time getting over the hump, but the main fault is the poor management decisions on roster construction and the absolutely terrible coaching that we're being forced to witness.

      THANK YOU!!! How the hell do people expect Cade to operate when he’s sharing the floor w Hayes who stink!! Monty states he doesn’t play players who keep making mistakes… HAYES HAS BEEN GARBAGE AND I CANT DEFEND HIM NOMORE!! He’s stunting Ivey growth and now he’s tarnishing Ausar case to win roty man🤦🏾‍♂️ how is our best defender and main player that gives 110 percent every night not seeing the floor like before ?? Ridiculous. Sasser is out the rotation now and he was showing promising signs. But everyone will blame Cade lol

    • @michaelahurt
      @michaelahurt 5 месяцев назад +2

      Stewart is a 4. He offers ZERO rim protection as a 5. Lineups with him at the five get absolutely roasted. He's even worse than Bagley as a rim protector. But he should be playing like 18-25 very tailored minutes against specific looks now that Bogey is back. He's a sand wedge and Monty is using him like pitching wedge. He's a specialty player, not a utilitarian one.
      Cade is definitely part of the problem. Most of those blitzes are from early in the season. Then teams realized Cade can't actually shoot well enough to warrant that coverage. But he also couldn't get anything good out of those traps. Even lesser passers can make that skip pass when they get two on the ball. (Although having Ivey or Ausar as the outlet player would have helped.) Right now he's much better in a multi-ball handler offense where he can work off ball. Especially with Ivey since he can actually get paint touches and they can play off each other.
      This roster is certainly not ideal for Cade, but if you need everything set up perfectly for you to succeed, well you're more Jared Goff than Jalen Hurts and I don't think the aspiration was for Cade to be a game manager.
      The roster -- I think not having any two-way vets is a problem but you don't pass on talent in the draft for high floor, low ceiling guys who fit a need. That's how we got Luke Kennard over Mitchell and Bam. Give me Ivey and Ausar 1000 times over. Ivey, Cade, Ausar, Duren works fine. Just not if you pretend Cade is Luka. Poor shooting is less of a problem if you have freak athletes who can beat teams on the glass and cut into space when defenders leave them. It's ideal to have a lot of shooting, but you can succeed without it.
      That's where Monty comes in. Or doesn't, unfortunately, because his lineup combinations and how he deploys them don't actually accentuate what these players *can* do but instead he puts them in positions where the lack of shooting is exposed. (Though it's been better the last two weeks. Unfortunately Duren and Bogey have played all of two games together.)
      Although if Monte Morris were healthy and getting Killian's minutes the offense would run a lot smoother. That was a bad break on a roster that *really* needs a veteran floor general.

    I get the sinking feeling that when Monty told the Pistons that he really "didn't want to coach" this year - that he was telling the truth. It seems like in record time under Monty's tutelage this young core has completely lost its confidence - lost its focus and lost any hope for the future.

    I think by far the biggest issue the pistons are facing is the rotations. After about 5 minutes to start every game, we sub in the entire bench for another 5 minutes. No starters - zero. None. This puts us in a 15-25 point hole every single time we do it, because our bench players are not NBA caliber talents. It's honestly a bad perfect storm. Horrible injury luck to key guys since the start of the season, great parity with no one actively tanking, and possibly the wrong coach. I don't doubt the talent on this team (the reason for the solid projections before the year started) but it's snowballed at this point and it's difficult to watch. I think it's a bad idea to fire Troy Weaver because most of the moves have been good. Monty really needs to do something to get this turned around but I'd evaluate that at season's end. Of course we're all outside looking in so we don't actually KNOW what's going on.

    • @michaelahurt
      @michaelahurt 5 месяцев назад +1

      It's not even just the lack of tanking teams but the changes the NBA made to make the regular season matter have worked. It feels like teams are playing a lot harder.
      Combine that with the fact that teams are so much more efficient now and it's just harder for bad teams to win.
      Especially when the coach insists on burying the most talented player on the team. Ivey is the one guy on the roster who can inject some variance.
      You lose 1 or 2 games when you have a real chance to win and suddenly you're losing 23 straight

    There is some very bad coaching associated with this team, so I disagree. First of all, 3 point shooting at this level involves motor memory. There is something wrong with their practices. If I had to guess, I would say, there is just not a total emphasis on shooting....too much coaching, as in over coaching. Secondly is that they really don't play defense. Look at the distance between the piston players and the opposing players out in the 3 point area. We are late to guard and don't know how to guard closely. It is weird, but I blame this on the coaching. If someone gets around a piston, he then basically is free to drive to the hoop or pick up a foul, their rotation is terrible. Jaden Ivy does not know how to make a pull up shot and he only drives to his right. He is blocked at the basket routinely. If you took away his lay-ups, you would see a player who cannot score. He is not improving. He needs to develop other shots or he needs to sit. Our tallest player, James Wiseman is told never to drive to the basket. After giving a block, he often stands back, rarely is available for the pick and role....as important, he needs to shoot the 3 point shot. He has a shot. He needs to drive and they need to pass to him. Marcus Sasser, should start as the second guard. They should pass to Ausar Thompson more so that he can be more involved in the offense...........................my point is, coaching sucks. The coach is not making our players better, he is making them scared and they are not playing for him. Consider why he was fired in his last job.

This team is constructed bad, we literally have no wings, we have no shooting and have no centers that can defend. You draft a guy with the #1 pick and don’t even construct a team around him that compliments his play style. You draft a guy at #5 and then keep him on the bench because he doesn’t “play defense” and then go on to have the worse defense in the league with him on the bench. You play Hayes like he has compromising pictures of you and then to cap it off you have a coach that literally said he only came here for the money lol.

    Pretty much all their lottery guys are ones who never learned how to shoot & were able to just be more athletic and bigger for HS and one year of college. They get to the NBA and it’s not enough to win games.

    The problem IS the coach that didn't want to be here. Just for the money. The team problem is poor coaching of the offensive structure. Pointing fingers at the players in interviews. Making them feel down on themselves. The bigs do not utilize the midrange game. Constantly open at the foul line for a jump shot. That would open the driving lane for Cade, Ivey and others. The bigs do not know how to play their man and the ball. The coach let the refs think the team is tanking. He is not fighting for his players. They have slow feet on defense. Pass getting through the lane too easily. He need to go for someone that want to be here.

  • @bonerici
    @bonerici 5 месяцев назад +4

    that's nonsense. An entire team can't have the yips. Watch them play. The players are comically bad on defense, but a lot of them play very very hard every play. Killian Hayes plays very hard, but he's bad at everything, can't even make layups. James Wiseman is comically bad at defense but he just doesn't know what he's supposed to do. Every single play he's caught in no man's land. Bojan is a vet. He gives you vet effort every game and never gives up. He plays like he's being paid to play. Jaden Ivy though probably lost a lot of his confidence because the coach has no confidence in him. Now of course it's true that the team plays its hardest in the 1st quarter, when they think "Oh we might win this one" but a lot of the reason they get shut down is just how aware the other team is of the piston's deficiencies. Every single team in the NBA knows that they will get that scarlet letter if they are the first loss to this pistons team so they try their best to blow out the pistons in the first half. The other teams are bringing maximum effort to beat this team.
    There are two teams that you will find yourself giving maximum effort against. One is the previous champion. You want to beat them. The other is the worst team in the history of the NBA. You don't want to lose to them. Give some props to our opponents. They try hard to beat this terrible pistons team. Of course, after the 1st quarter, when they are ahead by 20 they do start to loaf. But if the pistons ever make a run and threaten to win, the other team puts their foot on the pistons throat and stops it.
    I'm convinced this team plays hard. They are just bad. There's only one person on the entire team that can shoot the ball and he's 34 years old.
    the reason this team sucks is that at the end of the day this isn't about X's and O's and defense and leaping out of the gym drawing fouls and playing hard. At the end of the day one team puts the ball in the hoop. The other team doesn't. This miserable pistons team can't put the ball in the hoop. They can't even make layups.

    Monty Williams. Easy answer. They had less talent last season, they were more competitive while trying to lose. That should speak volumes. They did not have Cade, or Ausur or Sasser. That is a ton of talent, scoring, and defense to add to a team that was competitive a good portion of last season. Beef Stew as a stretch 4 is a ridiculous experiment (they did do that last season). Hayes as a starter is also ridiculous. Most of these players roles were known, Hayes thrived in his last season. Now he is back to inconsistently contributing, playing lousy team defense but more importantly, he doesn't fit with those players. He is a PG, Cade is a PG. They need to play their natural positions. Ivey is a scoring guard. None of this should be as difficult as this jacka$$ coach has made it. He is an idiot and the actual only real issue. Nothing else matters, it is coaching. These same players, with less help, played better last season. There's no counter argument to that either. It is the coach then and that is blatantly obvious.

      Yeah, but it was a lockout season. I was referring to the worst team in NBA history for a full 82 game season

      As if EVERY TEAM with the WORST W-L RECORD FACED EQUAL TALENT. THESE Pistons are facing FIFTEEN PLAYER TEAMS, and are a FIFTEEN PLAYER TEAM.
      OLDER 12 PLAYER TEAMS WITH THE WORST RECORDS OF EACH SEASON WOULD BEAT THE FIFTEEN PLAYER PISTONS?
      LUDICROUS CLAIM!!

      @And.One.Hoops1 - "NBA HISTORY" OF TWELVE PLAYER TEAMS DOES NOT APPLY TO FIFTEEN PLAYER TEAMS. 🤔🤨

    At least with those garbage Sixers teams they took flyers on guys and found some quality role players: Grant, Ish Smith, Saric, Christian Wood, Robert Covington. Low expectation guys who earned their spots.
    The Pistons are full of blue chip guys who are not hungry nor willing to compete like that.
    The guys who have the biggest attitude problems, are sources of negativity and ultimate contribute to a losing culture are the guys who are invested in by the franchise, i.e. lottery picks.

    Detroit is stuck with a coach who literally told you all. He is only coaching for the money.
    Unless upper management wants to eat 80 million for Monty and not get anything out of it.
    You guys are screwed.
    And the GM would never do this. Unless they want to be fire, too.

      Monty Williams was REQUIRED TO ANSWER THE QUESTION ABOUT THE MONEY OR BE FINED. He could not plead the 5th without risk of punishment. He was HONEST. Only the WICKED of INTENT would hold an OBLIGATORY STATEMENT against him.
