    I could never be a sales person unless I truly believed in a product. Great advice that this should be used for ethical purposes rather than manipulating people for sales.

    • @alexanderlyon
      @alexanderlyon  4 года назад +4

      So glad you picked up on that, Allison. I always get weirded out when salespeople try to pressure me and put me in a corner. It feels gross and I want no part of it. I think it's 100% okay to tell our story and invite people to participate, even in a compelling way. But, then, I believe we should give them space and leave it up to them to make their minds. To me, there's a huge difference between general marketing-type messages and "closing" techniques (which I don't like at all, if you can tell). Thanks for your comment.

      It all depends upon your call to action at the end. If you can ask your listeners to do something specific right there and then, it'll likely work well. If, however, you just want them to think about what you said or merely change their minds, then it may not work well because that's not usually a concrete enough action for the 5th step of the sequence.

      Hi Kim. Yes, 100% and I'm glad you asked. In fact, I recommend stacking up 2 to 3 attention grabbing techniques in the opening of a presentation. It takes a bit of practice and creativity to get the right order and get the different techniques to build on each other effectively. But, it's worth it. • @alexanderlyon
      @alexanderlyon  3 года назад +1

      If it were me, I'd not script it out word-for-word. It's hard to sound natural that way. I recommend talking points (not full sentences). Also, practice it as if you are imaging a slightly different listener each time (e.g., young or old, male or female, beginner vs experienced, etc.) so each time you explain it while practicing, it sounds a little different. Eventually, reduce your talking points down to just a few key words for each point. Above all, don't try to memorize specific wording or phrasing. Just internalize the key points.

    Being an Introvert is a Good Thing, is the topic suits for Monroe's motivated Sequence ?

    • @alexanderlyon
      @alexanderlyon  4 года назад +1

      I'm no so sure. The last step is action. So, what action are you trying to get your audience to take? In other words, what is your "ask" of them? If you don't have a clear step for them to take, then I don't see how it fits this framework. Maybe but I can't tell that from your question if it fits.

    persuasive speech on how "the customer is not always right', is this a Monroes motivated sequence?

    • @alexanderlyon
      @alexanderlyon  5 лет назад +1

      I'm not sure. Are you asking your listeners to take a specific action at the end? Or, are you just trying to change the way they think? If you are trying to change the way they think, essentially to agree with you, then it might not be a good fit for Monroe's Sequence, which is designed entirely to motivate the listener to action. The last step is action so it all leads to that.

    • @alexanderlyon
      @alexanderlyon  4 года назад

      I see where you're going. Typically, you'd want your action step to go beyond just believing and move to a more concrete action or behavior. In other words, asking people to change their minds does not sound like it goes far enough. The action step is about doing something, a first concrete step.

    • @alexanderlyon
      @alexanderlyon  4 года назад +2

      The Attention steps functions like an introduction to the presentation. You gain your audience's attention and peak their interest. When you settle down in the need step, you are explaining with evidence, examples, stories, etc. that the need is real, the problem is something we should care about. Hope this helps.

    Would "implementing body cams on all police officers in the United State of America" be a good topic for Monroe's Sequence?

    • @alexanderlyon
      @alexanderlyon  5 лет назад +1

      Could be a good topic for this sequence. It depends on what you want from your listeners at the end. If you're asking them to do something specific, then it could work. If you're just trying to get them to change their minds generally, then it might not be the best choice. So, decide what you'd like your audience to do at the end. What are you persuading them to do? Let that determine how you structure it.

    • @mike_martin0920
      @mike_martin0920 5 лет назад +1
