When Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin) saw the movie for the first time, he was so moved that he started crying at the end. His wife was sitting next to him and she asked why he was crying. He told her that every actor dreams about being in a special timeless movie that will be loved in any era, but most never get the chance. Until he saw the completed movie, he hadn't realized that "The Princess Bride" was such a movie and he realized that he had played the role of a lifetime.
After watching this for over 30 years, and thousands of times, one tidbit that I never put together until I started watching reaction videos and reading comments: the Revenge business ... and the pirate ship Revenge. If Inigo becomes the dread pirate Roberts he will still be in the Revenge business🤯
Holy crap, I didn't even think about that! I've seen this movie dozens of times, and that never occurred to me.
🧐 hmmm 🤔 interesting.
The thing to realise is that, we are seeing the story through the grandson's imagination and therefore it is not an adult viewpoint we are seeing. Hence the way everyone is portrayed, the way they speak/sound, their actions etc.. are from the grandson's understanding of what he is listening to. A top 20 movie as everything just gels together so well, it's delightful. There are no big explosions, no swearing, no car chases at all. No megastars either.
This was known as "The greatest Hollywood never made.".
For ten years the script circulated through the studios until Rob Reiner finally directed it.

You surely know your actors... A few fun facts: Andre (RIP) had a back pain so severe, they had to use a replacement or wires for ANY lifting scenes he had. When Robin Wright was cold, Andre put his palm over her head to make her warm. Andre was not an actor, but still everyone loved him on set. While filming the fire swamp scene, the book author was present, but still ruined a take because he didn't realize that the dress was SUPPOSED to catch fire, and he screamed during the take. I'm sure there are many more, but for now that's all I could think of. Great reaction.
Andre the giant was the 1st WWE hall of Famer and had acromegaly which literally gave him his giant size
He was one of the gentlest people ever
He passed away from congestive heart failure in 1993 at only 46 years old

Carol Kane, the "witch" also had funny roles in Scrooged and the series The Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt.

Goldman asked his two young daughters what kind of story they would like him to write for them. One said a story about a Princess, the other wanted a story about a Bride. In high school in the 70s, we were assigned William Goldman's first novel, "The Temple of Gold" - it's a great read, with heart and loss. Other William Goldman screenplays that are worthy of watching: "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" - "Marathon Man" - "All the President's Men"... (It's also rumored that Goldman helped Ben Affleck and Matt Damon with their gem, "Good Will Hunting", another MUST watch.)
I saw this in the theater either as a sneak peak or premier and they gave everyone who attended a 45 record of the Mark Knopfler theme song.
This movie is a masterpiece. It never gets old. And every actor in the movie was great. One of my all time favorite movies. Loved the reactions.

He's been gone for five years. He comes back and she's engaged and kidnapped. He needed to know how she truly felt. If she knew it was him, she may have told him what he wanted to hear🤷♀️ this way he got the truth from her
People are surprised she does not recognize him. But it’s been 5 years she would have forgotten some things like his voice.

Chris Sarandon was Humperdinck, and he was married at one time to Susan, and she kept his last name. She played Janet in The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Also Thelma and Louise and Bull Durham and many other great movies.
You may want to visit your local library and see if they own Cary Elwes' book, "As You Wish: Incredible Tales About the Making of The Princess Bride." Rob Reiner, the director, and all the actors had as much dedication to the book as they did to the movie AND to EACH OTHER. They all related how much fun they had while making this forever movie. Locations were in mid- to northern England. Off-screen shenanigans are revealed. Talk of cast reunions is included as well.

@@melthinksThere are several cast videos on RUclips talking at book signings, fan clubs, and similar events. Seems none of the actors, the director, screenwriter, and others ever tire of talking about their "Princess Bride'" experiences!
8:43 Speaking of experienced mariners, I can't get over how Inigo casually coils the line around his hand xD This is a very good way to lose your hand while sailing a boat. Especially funny how in the book he's described as a halfway competent sailor

A friend of mine saw this in the theater and when they got to the cliffs of insanity, he realized he had read this book. Then it made him absolutely love this film

@Renee G AND @Flix2Us: That was a true story of Robin Wright's, quoted by Cary Elwes in his excellent recalling-behind-the-scenes-stories book "As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride" ( published 2014. )
She was telling that story in one of the special features on the DVD. While telling it her voice cracked and her eyes welled up. She really did miss him. ❤

Mel Smith is a well-known British comedian, he did a comedy sketch show with Griff Rhys Jones called 'Alas, Smith and Jones' (a play on 'Alias Smith and Jones).
I went to go see this when it came out because I'd read the book a few months earlier - everyone involved deserves congratulatory recognition for the marvelous transition from page to screen. One of the best ever book-to-movie adaptations.
Peter Cook was actually a comedian before Monty Python and they mentioned him as an influence. I believe they also had him as a guest in at least one of their sketches at some point.
Love this movie. The first wedding I officiated was a pair of fencers, and had a ton of fencers in attendance, so of course, I had to start things off with "MAWWIAGE!"
I love how buttercup just forgives her kidnappers 😂
Well, Vizzini dies; Fezzik, Westley, and Iñigo help rescue her; Humperdinck's fear has reduced him to a quivering puddle of protoplasm; and Count Rugen was slain. Nobody of import is left for Buttercup to forgive!

A bit of trivia about Mandy Patinkin (Montoya). He had just lost his dad to cancer and he used this for his performance
When he said you killed my father and shoved in that sword it was Mandy the person getting revenge on the cancer that took his father
Yeah, I mention it in the video. It's a great, but tragic, bit of acting on his part.

@@patricke2088 Understandable. You can really see the intensity Mandy Patinkin brings in that scene. Inigo is such a fantastic character because of his talent.
There was a movie made by the Mr.Show With Bob and David TV show called Run Ronnie Run. Patinkin has a hilarious scene in it. The whole movie is insane and great.
When I went to see this in the theatre, the Impressive Clergyman got the biggest laugh in the movie.
You mention Edmonton Expo and meeting Wallace Shawn. Fun fact we were the first fan convention he ever worked.
There was also a composer by the name of Englebert Humperdinck (1854-1921) who’s mostly known for the opera _Hansel and Gretel_ and for being the stage namesake of singer Arnold Dorsey.
Last summer I got a email where they were playing this movie out doors with a live orchestra. It was very nice and a lot of people showed up and had a good time.

.. just a little tidbit about Andre the Giant (as the story goes): during filming, it was very cold Robin Wright says he would place his huge hand on the top of her head to help keep her warm :)
"He did the Vulcan neck pinch." Actually, for shooting that scene on a cold February day in England, Andre between takes would put his hand (one) on Robin Wright's head to keep her warm. His single hand covered from the middle back of her head all the way over the top to her forehead.
I saw this in the theater and loved it ever since.
I have NEVER SEEN THIS. It was AMAZING. You two made this so much fun to watch and the tidbits here and there were great to hear.
Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists and songwriters ever. Another great soundtrack of his is for the comedy called Local Hero.
Rob Reiner played Archie’s son in law in All in the Family. He’s directed many movies. His father was Carl Reiner who was also a comedic actor and director. In the 50s and 60s he wrote for the Dick Van Dyke show and Sid Cesar’s Show of Shows. He also worked with Mel Brooks early in his career and directed many movies throughout the 70s and 80s.
Another great Rob Reiner comedy with Christopher Guest is This is Spinal Tap. Definitely worth watching.

It's interesting your mother noticed the Fire Swamp looking similar to The Lord of the Rings forest. It's a famous forest named Puzzlewood in England used to shoot forest scenes in many movies, though it wasn't used in LoTR as far as I'm aware.

Christopher Guest was in Spinal Tap. That was Rob Reiners first movie that he directed. That is where Jamie Lee Curtis saw him, wanted to meet him and the rest is history. Sadly, he passed away in recent years
Christopher Guest is still very much alive, thankfully. He is also a member of the British nobility, being the 5th Baron Haden-Guest. This also means that Jamie Lee Curtis can be known as Lady Haden-Guest, if she so chooses!

I've been watching this movie since I was 8 years old when it came out. At this point I can see most of the actors as things other than this movie. However, to me, Cary Elwes will always be either Wesley or Robinhood🤷♀️ and I can not ever see Wallace Shawn as anything other than Vasini. No matter how many other roles I have seen him do great in, he will always be this character to me🤷♀️
Ever watched Star Trek: Deep Space 9? Wallace Shawn (Vizzini) played Zek, Grand Nagus [CEO equivalent] of the Ferengi Corporate Authority
DS9 is one of my favourite shows! Best version of Star Trek, best writing, and best exploration of races like the Ferengi and Klingons. Zek was always entertaining to watch!

Peter Cook was pretty contemporary with Monty Python, He formed a duo with Dudley Moore and together they were very, very funny. You can see them together in the original version of "Bedazzled".

I'm having a bad pain day so I'm watching "Matlida" (1996 - also incredible, same high quality & you should do a reaction/watch it), & "Princess Bride" reactions on RUclips. I love this film so much - not just the ones you mentioned, but he also choreographed for the Errol Flynn-Basil Rathbone duels (I highly rec "Captain Blood" 1935 & the 1938 "Adventures of Robin Hood").
But you said 'He has a very punch-able face" and it immediately made me think of my favorite tv show of all time, which is the 2008 "Leverage" (Timothy Hutton, Gina Bellman - done by Dean Devlin). If you have never seen this show (5 seasons, 77 episodes) -- YOU GUYS NEED TO WATCH IT! It's so good: the quality, the characterization & continuity, the humor, the drama, everything... If you decided to watch it (even on your own, though I'll never not welcome episode reaction vids), I HIGHLY ADVISE you to get the dvds out from your library as they have the correct order of episodes, which unfortunately streaming sites don't (even Electric Now has them mixed up for seasons). Anyway, this was a great reaction!

Rumor is that the makeup was so good for Carole King and Billy Crystal that the other actors did not even know that that is who Miracle Max and his wife were. They were really big names at the time, and their participation in the movie was kept from the other actors at first

It is not just Vietnam. If you just go through the history of Asia anyone from outside involved in a kind war there has never done well. The Persians, the greeks, Alexander the great. The British, the Spanish, the French. The list goes on. Even when fighting against eachother land wars are often times fruitless. Other types if warfare can work. Religious, economic, social, but land wars just don't. Honestly anywhere their is dense jungle is a bit of an issues. Lots of mountains also are and issues Asia has both in pretty good amounts.

Agreed. Happy to see another reaction to this gem, but it really is cringey after a while. I know how hard it is to resist pre-quoting this movie in particular, it just doesn’t make for a great reaction video IMO. I really honestly mean all of this as constructive critique, and I’ll be happy to see future reactions from these guys.
Andre the Giant's English wasn't very good. He had to learn his lines phonetically. Rob Reiner gave him a recording of himself doing the lines for Andre to learn.
Maybe Monty python next?
They couldn't make this movie today in 2022. Why? Because the movie is too White.
