I have been in this hifi hobby 30+ years. I have owned Revel, Dynaudio, and Martin Logan speakers, just to name a few. I have owned Q Acoustics Concept 500s past 3 years, and they are my all-time favorite speakers I have ever owned.
Jay, im a newbie, but i totally enjoy your in depth knowledge and info, and your suggestions! I've just Retired after 37 years with a Major retail- wholsale company, not related to Wally World 😆! Im assembling my sound room from scratch now, ohhh what fun! !!! Theres so much to choose from to nuild it from ground up , nut still have a budget. I grew up extremely poor , and a very broken home, worked my fingers to the bone, while o was the first to obtain a degree from college . Yes , it was tough and heart breaking at times, but Jesus cleared a path for me, and its been a Blessing to say the least. Im having alot of fun building my little safe place and enjoying my collection of albums and tapes. Thank you for all you do and have done for so many! Godbless you and your family Jay, and keep teaching and sharing .... There's no price you could on what you've given to us all☺️👍 Take care ✝️🛐❤️🙏☺️👍
After dozens of speakers owned and demo'd from £1000 to £18000 i finally settled on some Concept 500's. Literally every box ticked. The standouts being the soundstaging... never known speakers disappear as such.... perfect tonality and amazing dynamics.... ease of placement and drive with single ended triodes.... build quality and finish, perhaps the best version of black gloss ive ever witnessed in the history of black gloss!
Jay is dangerously close to Zeos' territory - falling madly in love with a new pair of bookshelf speakers every 6 weeks ;). OK - my jealousy aside, being able to A-B the TAD speakers with ANYTHING from Q Acoustics, Monitor Audio etc would be a dream for most of us.
I have the Concept 500s and they are absolutely amazing. One thing worth mentioning, Q Acoustics is a UK company, but the Concept 300/500 are entirely engineered in Germany by Fink Audio Labs. ❤ To my mind their housing is revolutionary.
I run a pair of Concept 500’s with Ming Da 845 mono locks at 20 watt single ended and the sound stage is enormous with all the bass extension I could wish for. As a uk viewer I love your reviews
Jay Really appreciate you reviewing these speakers that are priced closer to my budget vs your pricy favorites. Thank you On another note where does CSS Bookshelf and Buckhardt fit in performance and price wise??? Finally the floorstanders by Avendal how does there sound measure up overall in your opinion Great work Sir
I have the concert 500s and i am so pleased with them , they are also very sensitive to equipment changes downstream . I recently swapped out my pro-ject dac box 2 for a 10 year old weiss 202 dac the difference was clearly heard , the old Weiss 202 was clearer and more liquid and dynamic . I have a Michi x5 integrated which seems to work well in my medium sized room .
I have the Concept 500 with a Pass Labs Int-30. I like the pass combo, but would like to experiment with tube amps. Thomas loved the McIntosh 275 combo.
Anybody who criticizes your speakers for not being high-end enough? Ask them, "So you're offering to buy me more expensive speakers?" That usually shuts them up.
Love the channel. A suggestion. Could you do a survey of Canadian audiophile manufacturers? Seeing and overview of the industry with quick takes would let the world know how rich the Canadian audiophile landscape is. And I might discover new things
I would love to know if the Wiisenton R8 or 800i would pair well with these speakers. I know you are very familiar with them and Jay. Do you think they would get along?
Thank you so much for such a great review!! How do you compare these QAcoustic versus B&W 805d3, which seems quite a reference? Are they suitable for classical music?
Huge, huge fan here...Is this combo ( Brunoco, Concept 300's ) better than the Gato Mono blocks and the Dynaudio Heritage? Which one do you prefer? best regards from Tehran...
Great review I really enjoyed it! It has me seriously thinking of selling my current vintage setup of MTR101 MONOBLOCKS, a MFA MAGUS tube preamplifier and my BOZAK speakers. Would I still need my Merason DAC which I like a lot?
If you ever get your hands on a pair of Edifier S3000Pro wireless powered audiophile-grade bookshelf speakers, I would love to hear your take. In addition to Bluetooth connectivity, it also boasts balanced XLR, RCA, USB, and optical inputs as well. In fact, they resemble the gorgeous Electa Amator IIIs.
Would be interesting to know what the bad matches were just as a list. Also how does a 20w amp power these even in a small room. Would all 20w amps be able to power to same loudness and if not why not; always feels a bit like black magic. I have these speakers and currently a Sonos amp (to be upgraded) but going into shops and asking about speakers and saying I have the Sonos and then inquiring about ls50 metas they will say things like “that amp doesn’t have enough current for those” and I’m thinking they are 125w into 8 ohms, what are you talking about? Enough wattage but not enough current ?
I really wish reviewers like you would try to give us a demo recording. I know a few folks have honed in on a setup, and that YT compression and myriad factors present the listener with a less-than experience (vs in-person), but I swear all nice speakers elicit similar reactions from reviewers. Not at all a criticism or you, guess it's just the paradigm of HiFi reviews over this medium :) Thanks for bringing us different tiers of speakers!
Hi, I am trying to figure out what kind of sound system I want. I'm 70 years old and want something nice before I die. So far I'm buying the Emotiva Base X TA-2 amp and a Theroy Turntable from U-Turn. Because I'm poor, I live on $1,100 month I'm going to have to buy one piece at a time. These speakers would be great (maybe) for me , I think? Paired with these speakers might be a good choice if I can buy one at a time. It's going to take a year or more to put this all together. Am I on the right track with these choices. I would appreciate any advice you could give this poor old man that loves music. Thank you.
I think you are on the right track. I think you should look into their new 5050 series. They just released it and I briefly got to hear them (in my montreal audio show coverage). I think it does a lot of what these do for a fraction of the price and you'd appreciate the savings as well as the sound quality
Maybe I missed it - How does this compare to CSS bookshelfs? - I know your said that you will not be comparing anything to the CSS+Jay Towers. However, I hope this does not filter over into the other CSS offerings. Thanks
Yes I can compare other CSS products. The 1TDx is a great speaker that gets scary close to sonus fabers or TADs (slightly more towards TADs imho) but it is not on equal grounds and while the finished versions are still amazing value, the real “WOW value” comes from building it yourself as a DIY kit.
Hi Jay I asked the question re; comparing Q300 to Dynaudio Heritage Special. I noticed that you already answered that question. You seem to prefer the Q300 for tone and looks. The Dynaudio HS uses one of the best soft dome tweeter in the market i.e. Isotar 3, uses a bass/mid range driver from their $65,000 Evidence speaker, uses Mondorf's Evo oil cap and uses Van Hul internal cables. Not clear from your video what components is build in with the Q300 but I am doutfull that they match the quality of the HS. Let's put it that way, I will not trade my Heritage Special for Q300 based on your review.
@@pierregourde326 If you like them, then you don't need to be searching for if there could be a speaker that's better right? And if some random person says they like something , it doesn't mean you will etc.
Hi Jay, I'm trying to finde a new speaker (replacement for my KEF LS50 meta) to pair with Hegel H390 and I'm wonder if Concept 300 can be that one in mid size room of 36m²?
Hi Jay, how would you see the performance of 300s in a larger living room, around 45m2? Looking for bookshelf within this price range for mixed usage with 80% Home theater.
Why not use a coaxial (concentric) driver to eliminate lobing overlap. "Reasonable quality crossover?" For 5 grand it should have top notch parts in the crossover.
given the tonal qualities you enjoy, I highly recommend you try british speakers such as Spendor and Grahm Audio.... maybe start with the LS3/5 clones and work your way up the lines. The flatest passive speakers stereophile ever measured was the Spendor D7. In my room they are perfection, play down to 25 hz with room gain, and the mids are sublime. I also love the Grahm Audio 8/1. On a side not, I am glad you use measurements to supplement your impressions.
The off axis isn't the flattest though (and there is a little bump on axis). It may be a sound you like. I have speakers that do something similar with narrow woofer directivity then widening to a tweeter. It can sound nice if done right. It's probably why the midrange sounds clearer, due to less reflections to smear
Hi Jay, just wondering why you haven't reviewed any Focal speakers? Some are reasonably priced (K2 936 etc) and are pretty good. Just allows for more info/choices for people following you like I do.
cool! You go do that if you like open baffles :) I like open baffles too but they too have their trade offs like any other speaker as you may know. I think it is just as important to ask "what compromises can I live with"
Thanks Jay! Looking to change my speakers - currently have Focal 1008 Be's - and was looking at the TAD's, but for $7500 less you certainly got my attention with your review for the Concept 300''s! You didn't mention any pairings with Class D amps - either because you don't like them or you used one but it didn't match well. I currently have a Peachtreee Nova 500. Do I need to sell that too and go with the Brunoco?
I listened to these speakers at Florida Audio Expo, as well as the Concept 500, 50, 30. The 300 was by far my favorite. It does need a sub to deliver fullness. Midrange, highs and soundstage are excellent. Neutral transparent delivery is surprising for a speaker with a soft dome tweeter. However, for the price they're in competition with some very good new & used floorstanders. In Canada you can find floor demo Paradigm Persona 3f (retails new for $12KUSD) for $5kusd. The Persona 3f is far superior to the Concept 300 and 500.
I wonder if Q Acoustic pair well with NAD C388 amp. I have been looking at deals recently with Monitor Audio SIlver 300, the NAD amp and free speaker cables, or maybe these as they have had such high praise sounding as good as speakers at £20000 or three times their price.
I haven't watched the vid just yet. Im hoping theres a buchart s400 mk2 comparison. They are a similar cost in the uk. Always liked these glad Jay got to listen to them
Thomas have Reviewed the 500 , now Jay proved it again about amp pairing is important to both Concept 300 and 500 speakers Thank You . They both have Wow factors with the right amplifier.wallet hurts too deep !
Excellent video, you really nailed it explaining in detail the design and performance of this speaker. I too, look forward to the concept 50 speaker review comparison against the concept 300. Cheers.
Hi 👋 I saw your video it is fantastic information I got it. In your room I saw lots of tube valve amplifier was displayed in your room. I wanted to buy a good tube valve amplifier?? I have selected Willsenton R 800i / 300B/ 805 Chinese brand. Can you please advise the same specifications , features?? Black color Remote, view meters, XLR output and etc. wait for your positive reply. Any good brand audiophiles approved. I listen only slow rock music only. Thanks 🙏
Hi Jay , may i ask how is the clarity level and holographic reality comparing with your previous experience with 40th anniversary Triangle Duetto bookshelf, even though the equipments used are different for each speakers. Your brief comments and instincts on their differences is highly appreciated. Thanks and regards, ~p
Both awesome speakers and it ultimately comes down to gear matching for both to sound really impressive but personally for me, I’d go with the concept 300s, just because I like its tone and looks better
I wouldnt touch a Topping.... heard some of their latest kit at the recent NW audio show with some Schiit amp and Goldenear Triton speakers.... NASTY sound. Flat, grey, colourless, lifeless overtly digital in the worst sense. For $500 i feel the Project Pre Box S2 digital has no equal esp if you can get the battery Accu Box psu to run it thus zero mains noise. Its a dual mono 9038Q2M from ESS and measures way beyond whats necessary but most importantly is tuned beautifully in the output area by John Westlake who knows his DAC. Topping is just a nice chip implemented by god knows who with god knows what.
question about that isolation / movement lack of fixation /stable stand ,the image may be affected in x & z axis movement as the internal driver move ? I see every time u touch the speaker it move the speaker .Just my thought .
The cabinets probably weigh enough that it's really not going to be moving an amount that you'd notice anything from. Technically every speaker moves back and forth at miniscule levels
I do understand that this video promotes the stand-mount speaker; specifically the "end-game" Concept 300. As I watch this review, however, I cannot help but recall Andrew Robinson's take on the Q Acoustics Concept 50 loudspeaker. He believes that the Concept 50 is "the best speaker they make" and for considerably less money than the Concept 300. The Concept 50 also takes up less space.
Did you ever try the Atohm GT-1 HD? It sells in Europe for €2700 pp and it knocked me of the chair when I heard them for the first time in 2011. I played with Sonus Faber Guarneri Homage, which sounds amazing, but they cost an arm and a leg. But the Atohm GT-1HD came pretty close to the SF Guarneri. If I didn't have the Guarneri's already, I gladly would be very happy and satisfied with the Atohm.
Yeah, now I want a pair. Thank you for reviewing the Concept 300's! You had me at "not your low rumble in your room that would startle your cat kind of bass" 😂
Very intersting comparision with TAD (a speaker on my wishlist) and the Q's. I had the Q's for a couple of years and they're a fantastic speaker, especially at their price. I have a pair of custom built stand mounts that cost $4000 in parts when made (about five years ago) and it was A LOT closer than you'd think. I kept my customs just beause the imaging was a fraction better. Seems the TAD might not represent the step up that their price would have dictate.
Have you tried genelecs the one? I think they are way up there with the best bookself speakers. Even my genelec G4 are unbelievable good in smaller rooms. For bigger they are bit underpowered but the flattest speakers iw even heard. With my IFI pro idsd dac the detail is knife sharp with the best imaging and soundstage under 3000€ iw heard.
What does price have to do with sensitivity? The energy consumed by the crossover is surely well spent so long as the sound is good. If your requirement is for high sensitivity, then for you it is settled but I don't think price is a factor in that.
What is wrong with people lol. These are an easy impedance load. Q-Acoustics are one of a very select few whose sensitivity and impedence ratings are bang on what they claim when acually measured. Most companies are 2 to 3db optimistic in real tests. 84db for 1w at 1m in a listening space that these are designed for (ie SMALL) is ALOT of volume. Even a 30w valve amp will drive them to decent levels. Of course they could have given them more sensitivity but they have to sacrifice bass extension and these speakers do bass unlike most small speakers with a front baffle of such modest size. Time to get real.
@Jayiyagi Please grab a pair of Yamaha NX-N500 and review them. They are older but still amazing nearfield to farfield active network powered Monitors. Yamaha sound is amazing.
Very very very different two speakers and the reason why I love them is equally reflected of those differences. Too long to explain here but I might do a video on it
Try this TERRIBLE recording and see how the Concept 300s handle it: "A Fraction Too Much Friction" by: Tim Finn 😅 Now try another recording that is INSANELY GOOD (and hear the vast improvement): "No Ordinary Love": by Alexandra Miller. This home recording is about the best there is, with a stunning image and really holographic. The treble is so clear, clean and detailed but by in no means overdone. It isn't fatiguing or over sibilant, or lacking in any way either, so clear and transparent. It should make the Concept 300s sound amazing! ❤
I'm considering a one of the Sonetto line SF speakers still haven't made my decision but these also have caught my interest but no place to demo them. Have you had an opportunity to hear them and if so what did you like about the SF over these?
@@dmgmail7021 As I have been owning a pair of Sonus Faber Sonetto III for about 8 months now i can highly recommend them. I preferred them to Elac FS 407 as well as to Dali Rubicon 6, especially the highs of which became kind of exaggerating after a while. The SF pair well with my Rega Elex Mk4. "Italian elegance meets British understatement", and that's exactly what it sounds like. Even after hours of listening they never become dull or fatigueing to me. Anyone here has experience in pairing SF speakers with a valve amp?

Hello, I just purchased the C300. Do you have any amplifier recommendations? Thanks.
Hi mate, considering picking the 300 up myself, what amp did you go for? Would a marantz pm7000n be enough for them?@@zombielandiii2711

Awesome Video Jay. These are a really good speaker. How does the Brunoco compare to the TS120? Also where’s Tugin?
LOL, his buddy is more spelled like Tujan.
You mentioned you planned to review the platimon speakers in another video. Is that still the case? If so, do you know when?
@Jay's iyagi i just wonder why we still using stands for speakers. Why we just dont hang them on a rope?
Open baffle sound incredible and you can make your own top-notch set for 1k.
IIUC the Heaven 11 is class D
Great looking speakers Jay. They look rather deep and this would no doubt contribute to good bass👍😎 Thanks Jay
Would love for someone to compare this speaker to the Monitor Audio Platinum 100.
This speekers or Buchardt s400 mk2???
I listened to these speakers at Florida Audio Expo, as well as the Concept 500, 50, 30. The 300 was by far my favorite. It does need a sub to deliver fullness. Midrange, highs and soundstage are excellent. Neutral transparent delivery is surprising for a speaker with a soft dome tweeter. However, for the price they're in competition with some very good new & used floorstanders. In Canada you can find floor demo Paradigm Persona 3f (retails new for $12KUSD) for $5kusd. The Persona 3f is far superior to the Concept 300 and 500.
Hi, where in Canada? Thanks
It is probably your taste. The persona and the 300 are two totally different animals. It is like comparing apple to orange.
Look at the price difference
no thanks, id pick my c500 vs any paradigm
I had the speaker. Agree with everything but had to go for heritage special
Most bookshelf speakers tend to fight for second place behind Dynaudio...
Sounds like they would work well with my JL Audio e112 Sub ...My question is where are they made ?
Jay any thoughts if the Q acoustics with something like the parasound JC5 ?
Complete agree with low volume comment.
Where does css typhoon land inbetween concept50, concept300, minima, klh5, and tad?
are they good for music production ?? they look so cool.. maybe one of the most beautyful looking speaker i have ever seen.. :O)
Jay, did you try these with the Vincent (hybrid) amp?
beautiful loudspeakers !
and what is this beautiful record player in the background ? Thanks for a quick info !
Purefidelity
@@Jayiyagi thank you very much and greetings from germany
Will you be reviewing and comparing to Concept 50?
Yes :)
The Concept 300 vs dynaudio heritage special you opinion please 🙏
Both awesome speakers and it ultimately comes down to gear matching for both to sound really impressive but personally for me, I’d go with the concept 300s, just because I like its tone and looks better
@@Jayiyagi ok thanks
Jay thanks for the concept review. Could you comment on how they might perform with something like the IOTAVX SA3 and PA3 combo?
Thanks again
Hello, please, what are the three best DACs in the $500 range for a system with speakers and an integrated amplifier. Thank you
Topping E70 Velvet or a used Denafrips Ares II. SMSL Has also decent DACs in that price range.
A superb but really cheap bookshelf speaker: Denon SC-M37. It has a fantastic soft tweeter, good response and for its size an impressive bass.
Have you heard if there's going to be a KLH Kendall model 2?
There is.
Nobody asked, but how do the OGY compare? Can they compete?
question about that isolation / movement lack of fixation /stable stand ,the image may be affected in x & z axis movement as the internal driver move ? I see every time u touch the speaker it move the speaker .Just my thought .
no it does not violently move the speaker back and fourth to an extent where the internal drivers move to affect anything sonically
Every reviewer says different speakers are "the best" "endgame" etc
Dynamics, Jay. how are the freaking dynamics?
At 83 db sens probably not great.
How come they dont have a link to them on the main site?
The first Roksan Darius Speakers had spring tension loaded tweeters!
What was a lot closer than what?
Would the Outlaw 2160 work with these speakers….?
Looking forward to your review of AGD THE AUDION MKii Monoblocks
It would be interesting someone to tell if these can compete focal sopra or b&w 800 series in case haze heard all of them …
Those are much brighter than the q acoustics in my opinion
Have you tried genelecs the one? I think they are way up there with the best bookself speakers. Even my genelec G4 are unbelievable good in smaller rooms. For bigger they are bit underpowered but the flattest speakers iw even heard. With my IFI pro idsd dac the detail is knife sharp with the best imaging and soundstage under 3000€ iw heard.
Sensitivity: 84dB is too Low for my requirements. For the price we should be in the 88dB+ range. Excellent review nonetheless and keep them coming.
No doubt you'd think its 2004 or something.
Great review and new goodies to know.
Jay the concept 50 is as good and cheaper than the 300 , check that out too Thank You Cheers.
Hey Jay, can you do a review on Edifier's Airpulse A300 pro? Thanks
@Jayiyagi Please grab a pair of Yamaha NX-N500 and review them. They are older but still amazing nearfield to farfield active network powered Monitors. Yamaha sound is amazing.
Would you say these are better than the Totem Tribe towers you loved a few years back.
Very very very different two speakers and the reason why I love them is equally reflected of those differences. Too long to explain here but I might do a video on it
What about concept 50 ?
Try this TERRIBLE recording and see how the Concept 300s handle it: "A Fraction Too Much Friction" by: Tim Finn 😅
Now try another recording that is INSANELY GOOD (and hear the vast improvement): "No Ordinary Love": by Alexandra Miller. This home recording is about the best there is, with a stunning image and really holographic. The treble is so clear, clean and detailed but by in no means overdone. It isn't fatiguing or over sibilant, or lacking in any way either, so clear and transparent. It should make the Concept 300s sound amazing! ❤
Did you review the Pure Fidelity tirntable and I missed it?
I didn't review it yet. It is my reference turntable
@@Jayiyagi Mine too!
How does it compare to Totem element stay in Mount
Will you be reviewing the KLH model 7 when it is released?
Yes for sure. I heard it at a show and wanted to review it
They look lovely, admittedly like a Sonus Faber!
Do think willsenton r800 48 watts would drive these thanks
It should in a small the medium sized room. If you are in a huge space, you need more like 100-150 watts
That was your best video!
I never know how to feel about sponsored videos, it makes sense to praise them more when you get a cut of the cash
this video is not sponsored
I prefer Sonus Faber ❤
I'm considering a one of the Sonetto line SF speakers still haven't made my decision but these also have caught my interest but no place to demo them. Have you had an opportunity to hear them and if so what did you like about the SF over these?
The older warmer Sonus Faber sound, or the current SF sound?
@@dmgmail7021 As I have been owning a pair of Sonus Faber Sonetto III for about 8 months now i can highly recommend them. I preferred them to Elac FS 407 as well as to Dali Rubicon 6, especially the highs of which became kind of exaggerating after a while. The SF pair well with my Rega Elex Mk4. "Italian elegance meets British understatement", and that's exactly what it sounds like. Even after hours of listening they never become dull or fatigueing to me. Anyone here has experience in pairing SF speakers with a valve amp?
Where are these speakers made?
What were the wrong pairings? That might be crucial information for customers !!
All British designed but made in China
@@acidalwinter Wrong pairing according to who?
@@RennieAshaccording to the reviewer obviously, he said it sounded bad with certain integrated amps…
