The year-on-year crime numbers for both violent crime and property crime went down last year for Minneapolis, but they are still higher than before the pandemic. I suspect that Minneapolis will suffer from the fact that there really aren't any geographical features confining the metro area (it spreads out in every direction). Once people migrate outside the inner ring, they may not want to move back. Another factor that doesn't help is the cost of housing. One might think that the price of a home in Minneapolis would have come down after the pandemic and the George Floyd riots, but the prices are still sky-high. The city has made some progress on affordable housing, but the metro area still has a major shortage of housing.
What is very dangerous about Minnesota is you are expecting the crime to be high in St. Paul and Minneapolis. But it’s actually high too in the suburbs surrounding these 2 cities until about 1hr of a drive out of the metropolitan area. Crime is horrendous that is why we moved out of it after 20 plus years. Born and raised in Pueblo. I was able to make it out recently but it's sad how bad it's gotten. It's pretty much just devolved into kids killing each other.

Cops in the lobby, spliced wires on the lamps, red stain on the mattress! My car even had a dent in the door when I left! Maybe you know the location I'm talking about.
I get it Vegas, Miami and LA are the top night life spots but I wanna know what the new come up cites are. Like with Comedy bars, new brewery's and new venues all the fun things. That would be a fun video to watch
I was actually kinda shocked by New Haven, CT being the most dangerous city in that state. I thought, for sure, that was going to be Hartford. Still, as for New Haven being dangerous, I live nowhere near Downtown where Yale New Haven Hospital is for example. But it’s a nice place where I live uptown a good distance away from the big city downtown itself.
Hi no your right New Haven, is much safer than Hartford, Connecticut. The reason why New Haven has a high crime rate is because people come there to pray on Yale University students an so on so the criminals come from neighboring communities.
I am from New Haven, I definitely thought it would be Hartford or Bridgeport. Maybe it's because NH is larger? I am not sure, but although I have become much more of a homebody, I certainly feel better navigating New Haven over the other two, more so at night.
Not surprised about Albuquerque with the news we get, glad we live south of there. South Bend information was surprising, lived in Goshen but it's been a while. would have thought of Gary IN being the worst honestly.

Birmingham, AL is the only place I have seen an armed security guard at McDonalds. Anchorage, AK doesn't surprise me either. I lived there as a kid when my dad was in the Air Force. We had a drug dealer who lived in the apartment below us. He would use our phone to make his "business" calls but in return, gave us "protection" if people started messing with us.
Evansville is where my fraternity's national headquarters is located. Also, Galax VA is way worse than any other town in VA even Norfolk and Portsmouth
I lived in Davenport, IA from 2015-2019. Actually, I was born and raised in the Quad Cities area, to which Davenport is part of… I was living in the Phoenix metro area before moving to Davenport. I was shocked as to how many shootings that occurred there. The news reports indicated that the majority of these shootings were gang and drug related, with gangs coming in from Chicago. The other problem that Davenport has is from teens stealing cars. You would be amazed at how many people leave their keys in unlocked cars. We returned to the Phoenix area, not because of the crime…
Yes, SLC has crime. You usually have to go out of your way to find trouble. I remember seeing stats for the State in March and seeing the murder figures for the last year and thinking that Tacoma already surpassed them all. It has some scummy sections, mostly by the tracks, but I've never felt uncomfortable walking around--- ---and you just mentioned Tacoma--- --anyway, I can walk around most of SLC and the Salt Lake Valley and not feel uncomfortable. I live in Utah Valley, so walking everywhere in the summer is a must.
I've always walked at the trail following a river, and that led to parks like international peace garden (sometimes walked at night for few hours). But never seen violence or anything happening? I had a temporary job there, and my experience was just for like 3-4 months, though, but cities and walkable looked nice.
You don’t have to go out of your way to find property crime, however. When I moved to a place in the SLC foothills, my car window was busted out within a few days because I left my jacket in the car. That was a wake up call for me, I had moved there from Seattle.
Spent most of my life in Philly and am now in N. Wilmington, DE. Wilmington definitely has some not nice areas, but most of it is very suburban-esque. Very underated for great food and park system.
I live in Wisconsin....Not in Milwaukee. For years I said the best thing for the state is to bulldoze Milwaukee to the Illinois the state line into Lake Michigan. Down side is we would pollute the lake...Wonderful fishing.
If we would do that, our farmers wouldn't have a place to export their goods, our tourism will go down by a crap ton which will make the state lose money, our major industries will disappear which will also make us lose money, and everybody will disappear which means we won't make tax revenue. At that point, Wisconsin won't have enough money to support itself and maintain its own infrastructure and economy. We might as well get annexed by Minnesota, Illinois, and Mochigan and be the first state to go bankrupt, lol.
I really do get sick and tired of people ragging on New Jersey and Newark, specifically, which is my hometown. I was born and raised there and it is where I spent the first 18 years of my life. It's a big city which has grown and changed over time, as all places do. I had a great childhood in Newark it is as good a place to raise a family (as my parents did) as anywhere else is.
The Movie Fargo was not about Fargo it was about Brainerd Minnesota. We just watched it the other night I was confused because I thought the same thing.
Briggs, as you know we agree on much your findings and statistics, and had to agree totally on your listing of Salt Lake City, Utah. When I took a job out there in summer 1993, the place was already kooky as well as their residents. Though I am not LDS or planning on converting to it, the area of East Salt Lake seemed more normal and stable, like the south Jordan part of town. Now get into areas like Magna, West Valley City, and Taylorsville...these places ARE (or WERE) weird. Even Kearns was too! If marijuana were legal, this whole area would be full of stoned millionaires...but this is how I remembered it...and very happy you mentioned the area in and around SLC. THANK YOU, Briggs!!
I'm born and raised in and around Newark but left forever the first chance I got. Camden sucks, Paterson sucks. Elizabeth sucks. Newark sucks. Any one of them could have taken the top spot in NJ. Whichever one picked doesn't surprise me.
Have you ever analyzed crime per square mile? I know it sounds crazy but if you have a lot of crime per square mile then the likelihood of you coming across a criminal act would be higher. I don’t think per capita is all that strong a stat.
For instance, based on a population of 70k in an area of 17 sq mi, Wilmington De has a rate of 49 crimes per square miles. Baltimore is at 103/sq mi. Where Memphis, your top dog has a rate of 50/sq mi. I found Chicago’s rate is 884 (don’t know if that’s right) so with a population of 2.697 million and square miles of 228 their rate is 105/sq mi. Double that of Memphis.
I have visited cities throughout both North & South America. I have seen the roughest & the fanciest areas of SO many cities. I'm from Central Alabama originally & have been to Birmingham too many times to count. I have literally visited every single area in the entire city. It is actually a really nice & enjoyable city, despite a couple areas that experience more crime & it's especially awesome when you include the entire metro area. Southern hospitality is alive & well there. You will be treated very well no matter where you visit. Don't take my word for it though. Find out for yourself & come visit, or simply do more research before you start calling it a "nightmare city." When you go by statistics alone, you don't really get the truth. I get the fact that this video is simply about the statistics & I'm not arguing that at all. The terminology used to describe the city is why I am leaving this comment. There are a lot of factors why Birmingham (city) has a higher violent crime rate. Do some research. It helps to understand the reason behind the statistics before you start completely trashing certain cities.
I live in Tacoma, but in one of the safer areas. So far in less than 2 years the only crime was hearing a gunshot in my complex and seeing some kids stealing a catalytic converter.
Okay- Oakland does have an awful crime rate and some parts are no-go zones unless you’re a local. However, it’s a really great city with lots of really unique small businesses. The food scene is amazing. And the people of all walks of life are pretty great, too.
Oakland sucks. Stop it. It’s the Stockton of the Bay Area or the Bronx of New York City. Absolute dump because of the thugs that live there. Hope it gets gentrified in my life-time. Those bastards are moving to Stockton too lol
Newark has more crime than Camden? I heard Camden improved somewhat recently, but it was dead broke, with crumbling infrastructure and public services a decade or so ago. So may not be a big surprise if their numbers aren't accurate. Either was it is impressive AF, how low NJ is on the violent crime. But this is just ranked on how violent the ,most violent city is in each state, correct?.... so maybe I'm giving Jersey too much credit?

One might think that the price of a home in Minneapolis would have come down after the pandemic and the George Floyd riots, but the prices are still sky-high. The city has made some progress on affordable housing, but the metro area still has a major shortage of housing.
Minneapolis just had 5 homicides since Saturday! Since October 1st till now there has been 114 gunshot victims
In my old neighborhood an old man was beaten up getting into his car outside his house. This in a 400k - 650 k neighborhood.
@@jasonknight5863I have lived in the metro area since 85 and have watched it go downhill for years. As certain groups have moved here and the party in charge caters to them crime has continued to happen. And it won’t stop, guaranteed
@@arthurbrumagem3844 agreed my family and I lived there from 2000 to 2022 and looking back it went downhill after 2009 sharply and then since 2020 drastically. In that crime was happening across the street the Doctors car windows got trashed because he didn’t close the garage door one night. It was always something crime related.
So we moved and leaving the snow behind and top 5 taxes behind in the country was the best thing ever we did. The local governments there like you say caters to crime then picks on individuals if you go 3 mph over the speed limit. They are there for that but not real crime. All they care about is tax dollars.
If you have any sense you’d sell up and move to anywhere in the Sun belt.
Born and raised in Pueblo. I was able to make it out recently but it's sad how bad it's gotten. It's pretty much just devolved into kids killing each other.
Check out Aurora, Colorado. There’s not a day that goes by without a report of a crime there. It’s become a bit of a joke in our household.
Worked at the hospital campus there and I remember always hearing sirens every night and seeing a lot of gunshot wound victims almost every night.
So true!! I avoid AURORA at all cost!!
Agreed.... I was stationed at Lowry AFB in 1989. A female airman was stabbed outside the front gate. Crazy!!
Whats crazy is that Jackson, MS is more dangerous than atleast 45 cities listed
YES IT IS! Last time I heard there were 106 bodies for the year and that was a month or so ago.
@keithbeck8170 yeah they've had a rough 3 or 4 years
Love the video.
How about most dangerous streets in each state (violent crime wise)
I think the sad part for me is how many of these cities I've had to live in at some point.
I grew up in Tulsa in the 70s and it was a pretty decent place but whenever I've visited since I left in the early 80s, it seems to have changed a lot, and not for the better.
Mind blowing list. Wichita ahead of Portland? St. Louis wasn’t the worst in Missouri? Amazing.
He, Briggs, I enjoy your videos! Why are you so down on Jacksonville, Florida? I live downtown in the San Marco area and it feels eminently safe. Visit sit the city and maybe you'll change your mind.
Highlands, cedar hills, Melvin park, moncrief, the east, the west????
Im stunned at how low Newark’s numbers are. Would have expected worse.
Jamaican Freddy Krueger 😂
Good stuff as usual bud
This is a good video. I got a lot of things wrong. I have been to Las Vegas from time to time and felt safe. I made it to Tom's River New Jersey in April, but avoided Newark. And you say Vegas is much more dangerous. What a surprise.
@@rayb.6537 You are right. I've just been a tourist.
I live in Las Vegas. It is safe. Don't go to MLK Street.
OMG Briggs, I am in Omaha been here my life, and you are right it is pretty boring but we are trying to get more things. Now we have TopGolf LOL so I am happy about that and you need to come and see the new downtown it is amazing. We are getting better.
The worst hotel I ever stayed at in my life was in Omaha! A BIG multi story Americas Best Value Inn downtown. Man, that place was janky!! Cops in the lobby, spliced wires on the lamps, red stain on the mattress! My car even had a dent in the door when I left!
Maybe you know the location I'm talking about.
Surprised New Haven beat out Bridgeport or Waterbury on violent crime
I get it Vegas, Miami and LA are the top night life spots but I wanna know what the new come up cites are. Like with Comedy bars, new brewery's and new venues all the fun things. That would be a fun video to watch
I was actually kinda shocked by New Haven, CT being the most dangerous city in that state. I thought, for sure, that was going to be Hartford.
Still, as for New Haven being dangerous, I live nowhere near Downtown where Yale New Haven Hospital is for example. But it’s a nice place where I live uptown a good distance away from the big city downtown itself.
GunWavin New Haven 🤷♂️ still the best damn pizza on earth.
Hi no your right New Haven, is much safer than Hartford, Connecticut. The reason why New Haven has a high crime rate is because people come there to pray on Yale University students an so on so the criminals come from neighboring communities.
New Haven isn't bad, but Bridgeport ya no way im ever living there lol
I am from New Haven, I definitely thought it would be Hartford or Bridgeport. Maybe it's because NH is larger? I am not sure, but although I have become much more of a homebody, I certainly feel better navigating New Haven over the other two, more so at night.
@@MzLena2You New Haven has almost 16,000 more residents overall than Hartford so that could be as well.
Not surprised about Albuquerque with the news we get, glad we live south of there. South Bend information was surprising, lived in Goshen but it's been a while. would have thought of Gary IN being the worst honestly.
gary is way too much of a ghostown to be even near the worst, he shouldve put indy on there cause aint nobody heard of no evansville
Stl had 158 murders while Springfield had only 17 and It’s half the size. And KCMO had 185 murders and it’s barely 3x the size I have no idea how he missed these cities. Springfield isn’t a big city more like a town. The only thing that’s bad about Springfield is its property crime which doesn’t make a city “dangerous “. It’s nice in Springfield but 3rd world in STL and KC. Amazed at this guys gullibility to measure stats in certain states. There’s a reason Missouri is the 2nd most violent state in America last year not because of Springfield.
Murder isn't the only crime calculated and its based on per capita
Birmingham, AL is the only place I have seen an armed security guard at McDonalds. Anchorage, AK doesn't surprise me either. I lived there as a kid when my dad was in the Air Force. We had a drug dealer who lived in the apartment below us. He would use our phone to make his "business" calls but in return, gave us "protection" if people started messing with us.
Im surprised New Orleans wasn't included
I was very surprised East St Louis didn’t lead Illinois
Yes, SLC has crime. You usually have to go out of your way to find trouble. I remember seeing stats for the State in March and seeing the murder figures for the last year and thinking that Tacoma already surpassed them all. It has some scummy sections, mostly by the tracks, but I've never felt uncomfortable walking around---
---and you just mentioned Tacoma---
--anyway, I can walk around most of SLC and the Salt Lake Valley and not feel uncomfortable. I live in Utah Valley, so walking everywhere in the summer is a must.
Me either about Tacoma. I guess a few sketchy areas ruin it for everyone.
Go outside downtown and you'll find it. I ate at a KFC on the south side and the restaurant had bars on the windows. Didn't seem like a nice place.
@@AngelloDelNorteMy brother found a dead body in the Peace Gardens(Jordan Park) when we were little. It was the hang spot for TCG back then
Good list had a few surprises
I live in southern California, down here I think San Bernardino would 'win' the race on crime....
Wow Man! That's Heavy brother 😎 👍
Spent most of my life in Philly and am now in N. Wilmington, DE. Wilmington definitely has some not nice areas, but most of it is very suburban-esque. Very underated for great food and park system.
We really do have great food here!!!
Hate to say, but you are right about Jackson. I still love MS even with that known.
The Milwaukee cannibal!😯
That's rude as f***. Over 1 million ppl would be killed
Recently left Jacksonville FL, thankfully
Everyone in Washington knew it was going to be Tacoma for our state.
As someone who has lived in Tacoma and is still there nearly everyday, I think Yakima and Shelton are worse.
Dag!!! I wanted to leave this snow ❄️ and move to Columbia.😔
Thank you for this very valuable information.❤
Greenville is a million times better.
I'm surprised it wasn't Camden. It's always Camden on these lists.
The US overall is hardly a good place to raise families in. Europe is though.
Newark smells like poop.
I live in Tennessee but in old hickory and hermitage
The Movie Fargo was not about Fargo it was about Brainerd Minnesota. We just watched it the other night I was confused because I thought the same thing.
Merry Christmas, ❤❤❤
In Illinois the worst should be East ST Louis, sadly!!!! Springfield beat ST Louis??? That is a heard feat! 🤣
Newark is higher than Camden? When I lived in that area, Camden was a war zone.
I'm born and raised in and around Newark but left forever the first chance I got. Camden sucks, Paterson sucks. Elizabeth sucks. Newark sucks. Any one of them could have taken the top spot in NJ. Whichever one picked doesn't surprise me.
@@thullraven1 E-town for sure. I’ve seen some shit there.

Oh god yes. Jackson Mississippi I bet? I bet an arm and a leg it's there. 😂😂😂
You just watched until the first one and said it
anyone from memphis remember thay guy who went on a shooting spree on facebook live
Brockton! My old home town. Cities of Champions and yeah it’s rough in places.
Ok know being in the Navy I can tell you Norfolk is one of the safer cities, Portsmouth is the dangerous one
For Maine, it should be Cabot Cove.
😂😂😂😂😂
Where would Washington DC be on this list?
I live in Tacoma, but in one of the safer areas. So far in less than 2 years the only crime was hearing a gunshot in my complex and seeing some kids stealing a catalytic converter.
I’m in the outskirts of Tacoma but worked on hill top for a few years. Best customer service at restaurants I’ve ever had. Howdy neighbor
I took a look at gun crime in WA State a while back and Vancouver came up as being top per capita for some reason.
I love Memphis though! Food, music, culture ❤️
Sure, Jan.
lol can u mention how it’s also a War Zone
@@pinkruntz3858 I used to work/live there. The hills and areas by the lake are very nice. East Oakland, especially past Seminary, however...
@pinkruntz3858 why don't you mention the war zones since you know Oakland or could you be some outsider talking your ish
A great video!
Now do one on why the crime is so high 😅
Briggs, you rock! Everyone thinks downstate New York is the dangerous part of the state, it’s upstate people. Happy Holidays
Wow... I was born in Baltimore MD. And raised near Wilmington Delaware. But now I live near Charleston WV .
Funny, Detroit isn't even the most dangerous city in Michigan. Muskegon Heights is the worst!
Thoughtful and interesting......
Gary Indiana used to be one of the most dangerous cities I the country, surprised Evansville topped them
I was definitely surprised Atlanta wasn’t higher.
To make a list in a hurry, just remember the cities on display, in the summer of love.
