life is a struggle for sure Eric and in these strange and complicated times even more so. Please hand your burdens over to Jesus and you will be lightened. I am not talking religion but a friendship with our Creator , that is where it is at.

Old farmers here used waste tractor oil and diesel mix in a 1/2 barrel to soak fence posts bottoms for rot prevention before use, it worked. Larch is good.
Hiya Lars, long time fan of your channel and content. I really admire your commitment and perseverance with building your own very unique home. It's really great that you're sharing with all of us as well! And on top of it, you're using very simple tools, by hand, a shaving/cut/hole at a time. These videos are short, but I can truly understand and appreciate the REAL time that you're spending. It's showing, and it will show probably for generations to come when your kid's grandkids occupy this home, built steady and patiently with your hands today. Thanks for bringing us along for the journey. And keep up the AWESOME work! :)
I’m really glad you understand what your doing! I’d be so confused, it’s gonna be a well built house man, strong. I used to treat my wood with diesel and used oil, haven’t heard of folks doing that around here since I was young. Cheers man, hope all is going well.
A little tip for using a laser outside in the light, on your phone use front camera, mark side of phone with masking tape and make a line level with camera, start laser and switch on front camera and move it up and down slowly standing with back to laser looking at screen until you see the bright laser light in picture, now mark the wood against mark on masking tape, sounds complicated but its dead simple !!!!
Nothing beats a timber framed structure. I'm now itching to build something myself after following the progress of your project. This is a fun project to continue to watch go together.
I've lived in three log homes, one from just after the Revolutionary War, one from about the time of the ACW, and the last one was a log kit home from the 1980's. None were as complicated as the one you are building. I admire your confidence brother!
Nice to see people still building their own houses. Thinking it would probably be faster to use round tenons and mortises instead of square, though. It would be nice to have a massive masonry woodstove and a heating chimney go up the center of the house.
Such patience and dedication! It's going to be beautiful when finished, and a home to be proud of. I cannot imagine what it would cost if you hired someone to construct this, but our prayers are for you and your family as you continue to awe us. May God continue to bless you and yours!
Good video Lars, and for all the structures I have built something like this is above my pay grade, How about a video on you spring vegetable garden, I commented to plant lots of potatoes. Hope my small donation helped the cause.
With all the garbage going on around the world it is great to see someone just getting out there and having a go and building a house. I am looking forward to you getting a roof on the house, then it will really start to look like something ? Believe it will be a great looking house even though it is a little 'out there' for my tastes as I am old and Not very adventurous ? All the best from the best part of Australia, North Queensland !
Lars you could possibly give some insights into the proposed interior etc of the building, especially re maximising climatic in both hotter and cooler months for optimum temperature, enjoying your project cheers.
This is going to be cool! I don't know what lumber prices are like in Russia right now but here is not good. I am waiting to see if they come back down before I buy any more so for now my building projects are on hold so I will need to get my building fix watching you. Thanks, stay safe and be blessed with much success.
Lars living in a region which known for its lumber industry and quality of trees. A lot of wooden furniture for IKEA, for example, were produced in this region, until some recent events.
Lars, good progress. Quality work. It is always nice to see those beautiful registered-firmer socket-handled chisels being used with a proper hardwood mallet. Makes a change from all the cheap garbage you see on sites, these days.
This really is an ambitious project. I really like old school timber frame houses but it's already a pretty daunting proposition to build a 4 sided colonial or cape, but 12 sides? OOF. This will certainly be a unique structure.
I'm very jealous of being able to just decide you want to build a house and going ahead and doing it! I could never do that, too many building rules and regulations and governing bodies... I bet that house will be standing in 200 years while the houses that are built here last 30 years at best! I love this kind of video, it's very satisfying to see someone make their own home :)
HOLY CRAP. I'm not an expert. But I'd estimate I'm looking at 120k in lumber in one money shot. You simply can't get beams like those in the US, unless you have your own timber and sawmill.

Hi Lars, i have a question. What are you going to use to do the roofing? Wooden shingles? Or what is traditionally used in you area? I remember seen gome guys in the province of navarra in spain doing the wooden shingles and burning one side to extend the life of them. For the instalation they just used a single wooden pin. I was amazed looking at those guys work.
