i apreciate it my friend. The rodeos tha came with the GM 3.1 are the early ones from 1990 to 1992. I forgot to say my 92 Rodeo is 4x4 with tbi ,automatic. im trying to find a 4x4 s10 or a 4x4 Blazer to see if they might fit. Any information will be apreciated , thanks again my friend.
Nice! I have worked on a few of those. The GM 60 degree V6 has been a workhorse in the GM line up, and other makes for years. Lot of people have a lot of negative thoughts on these engines, 2.8 ,3.1, 3.4s. I however have had good luck with them. Yep, have a good one....
Well too much money spent on a V6. but head work was $250, Block Machining about $525. CAM kit was $327(K16-233-4), Magnum rockers and P-Rods $130 (RP-1414-12), Pistons are Keith Black w/coated skirts, p/n 1478C-1-5, 0.63 over bore, $160. Melling HV pump, Victor Rientz gaskets, new water pump, new harmonic balancer, etc., etc. I and my brother put the engine together. It currently has 20k mi with no problems. I hope this list helps.
What was the MPG on that and how many horses roughly? I have a 92 that I'm putting together and snatching a 2.8 out of a donor truck. I keep hearing LS swap but I'm on a budget so I'm sticking with what I have available.

@1990irocz350 NICE! U must have emissions in your area. I wish i didnt have them here, as i would have went another way here, but full emission compliance here.
@TheCharger911 thanks for the nice comments. even though i have 200hp and 220lbs TQ, i would very much like a sb chevy in the frame. but i do get decent mileage 15-16mpg, so maybe with gas prices ever rising i made the prudent choice. i do get a lot of comments both on my running engine viids, and on the street on how it lopes/choppy idle. but if can afford the swap, and the gas go w/the 327. love the short stroke sb chevys! good luck
Yep.....people look at the valve covers and can't figure out how i made them work. I had to drill the spot welds on the stamped steel covers to remove the brackets. I then drilled and tapped the FIERO covers to mount the S15 linkage to the aluminum covers. THX for the comment !!
@MICROFASTCPU YES, if your manifolds have the three per side fittings on the top side of the stock manifolds. I think that the 82-90 2.8's use the same exhaust manifolds, and therefore, these units will fit perfectly. NOTE: they do not come w/ bolts. I used metric allen head bolts in stainless steel(no rust). The headers, and the down-pipe is larger than they appear in photos, and you will not need a true duel-exhaust, as some may tell you. belive me they flow lots of air!!!
The engine looks great. My 84 s-10 5 spd has 368K on it. I rebuilt the engine and trans 20K ago. I built the X-11 engine and it runs really well. I am going to remove the heads and clean up the ports. I hope yours runs as well.

Thanks, we have done a few of these little 2.8s. V8s are more fun, but to me an engine is an engine. I just love driving and running them, as i know i built it. Really cool. I only have 22k on the engine at present. I will upload a photo album of us assembling it, if i can ever get time. But for now i do have several vids of it running. Thanks for the nice comments. Thanks. Well yes and maybe no on your question. Yes the heads are the same, therefore they will physically bolt on the engine. but the down tubes may have to be slightly modified to fit your engine bay and frame. Be aware that the s10 truck and blazer frames are different, and there are differences between standard, auto trans. And differences in 2wd vs 4wd. kinda complicated. If i could view the frame rails, or an actuall Rodeo in person i could tell you exactly what would fit your application.
Sorry so long for reply......Thanks for the nice comment! Yes, i too would love to either turbo or super charge one of these 60 degrees...Have fun, and be safe.....
well, strict emissons laws, therefore i had no choice but to play with the 2.8. 150Hp? I doubt that. but i dont care, it will easily burn the 265/50/15s, anytime. Both COMP Cams, and engine builder estimate 212HP @6k, and 207 pound feet @ 4500. Besides, i dusted both my friends 87 IROC 5.7/Auto, and my brothers 79 El Camino 5.7, both stock. This, indeed shocked both me and them. So, ??
@SpecialEditon84 Hi, Pacesetter 70-1201, however they do not make the anymore. OBX now has the blueprints, punch in 160757040257 at ebay. these are stainless steel. But keep in mind they only fit s10 2wd blazer or s15 2wd jimmy. Headman and Hooker make 4x4, and truck headers. the frame rails are different. hope this helps.
NICE! Yeah, would love to put on a Holley 390cfm 4bll, but cannot here, not emissions legal. Was going to try a an "out law" 38/38 Weber, but alas, not steet legal. I had to make serious mods to my Varajet. They do not make "jets" for this carb. So I had to drill the fuel jets, and the air bleeds, not an easy task.
I have the edelbrock torquer intake manifold with the 4 valve top for a 4 barrel carb. Also have Holly 390 cm 4 barrel carb, and comp cam roller tip rockers and other parts as well brand new never installed for sale. I bought them for a project and didnt even do it.
@maccfiliate Thanks for your comments. I have a 2wd Jimmy and both headman/hooker dont make headers for my application, believe it or not. So have the Pacesetter factory less than 4 miles from my location, and they had one, yes one set left for my truck! Oh yeah the Edelbrock manifold w/the 390 Holley would be great, but I have to remain "stock looking" because of emissions laws here. Check my other vids on the other internal mods. made. I have a lot of money in that motor, kinda foolish tho.
Nice job man. i have a question my friend, my 92 Isuzu Rodeo 4x4 came with the GM 3.1 V6 TBI , i was just wondering if those headers in the 2.8 will fit the 3.1 engine ???
@rcjg24 I wrote lots of info, but Yotube will not let me post for some reason. heads are #844 castings, pocket ported. Larger valves, 1.72in, 1.42ex. vs. 1.60in, 1.30ex. Off a 86 Fiero Gt or Formula. 9.2:1 compession. GMPP made aluminum Bow-tie block and heads for off road racing, however.
I will try and see if i can find 60 degree 3.1 Rodeo to view in person. Most i have seen have the 3.2v6 that is shared with the Honda passport. I did search the net, but could not find exact match as headers go. I am certian that either a s10 truck, or Blazer will work, just cant give u a solid answer as of yet...
+Dustin Jolley If you have the money put a small block in it. Or a 4.3L V6. The 60 degree V6 has its place as it was GMs work horse for many years. But it is limited in torque no matter what you do. So IMO a 350 is the best foryour 4x4.
That's cool as hell you built the 2.8 up a little. Nice job! Still holding up I'm sure? Sees how I've had 2 different rigs with the 2.8 in em and one had 240k and the other had over 280k both horribly abused, most people who never owned one talk mad shit about how unreliable they are and the 4.3 is the only reliable v6 yada yada yada. Those 2.8s are pretty much bomb proof in my opinion.
Thanks...Yes the GM 60 degree V6 is pretty stout in terms of reliability. There was a few small journal cranks that had problems, but other than that been pretty much bulletproof. Most people don't realize GM sought fit to produce this 60* V6 for 25yrs. And that they were even in some Jeeps and Isuzu's. Its not a power house, but a work horse!
@MICROFASTCPU OBX Headers Chevy 82-90 Blazer S10 S15 2.8L 2WD Pick Up type the above @ ebay. Mine are exactly the same, but are ceramic coated, and under the PACESETTER brand. Sorry. Its a very old vid. I cannot edit the vid. I have tried over and over. I cant even delete it. Something wrong with the vid itself. I just tried to delete the vid just minutes ago.
@cbh65beck Thanks for your nice comments. Most people think that the little 2.8 is a waste of time, but many people are surprised when I take them for a ride in my Jimmy. I was able to squeeze about 200HP/220lbs out of my engine, so I am well pleased. Check my channel to hear it "run" if you care. The big valves and cam really woke it up! Have a good one!
Look. I have tried to edit this video. And I have tried to delete it as well. But for some reason it can't be modified in any way. So sorry. Nothing I can do. It remains FAG. Nothing I can do. Video is freaking years ago. Gee.
@1990irocz350 U are luky....we are like CA. here in AZ. My headers are C.A.R.B. aproved, otherwise we cannot even put headers on anything newer than 1966.
@1990irocz350 Yep it is, thanks! Do you have a L98 motor? Belive it or not I have the same HP as the stock L98 TPI 350, However you beat me in low-end torque by about 120 pound feet!
Hi, what type of carburetor do you use? I have a 3rd gen 2.8 Camaro and i build a new engine with Edelbrock intake manifold, but i dont have selected a carburetor (maybe Holley 390cfm) and camshaft (Edelbrock or CompCams) yet. The Fiero valve cover compatible with this engine? The cylinder head is OEM with new valve springs?
Unfortunately I have to use the stock Varajet 2SE, only mod is needle is out 4.25 turns. If you don't have stringent emissions testing like I do, you can run anything you want. If automatic car, the Holly 390cfm vac. secondary would be good choice. If a stick you could use a AFB/Edelbrock 500 to 600cfm.
By far the nicest 2.8 I've ever seen. I imagine there's a lot of $$ hard work and time invested as well as some hard to find performance parts. Any idea of what kind of numbers it's putting out?
Thank You for your kind words. Yes, I put to much money, and love into this project. But Its been years ago I posted this vid. I get many negative comments. I have tried to delete, or edit this upload. But for some reason I cant. You can look at my other vids to hear it run, see short burn outs and other nonsense. ruclips.net/video/1HKH2ObHmwc/видео.html
@@leegmc1985 well buddy there's always going to be people hating on just about anything you do but that's not me. I'm the kind of person who appreciates other people's hard work and efforts. I always thought it would be awesome to be able to build a 2.8 with custom and performance parts but I know that's out of my price range and I'm sure they've discontinued alot of those performance parts by now but you built it and if it makes you happy or it did at one time that's all that counts and it doesn't really matter what anyone else says. 👍
I was making a vid for the company i work for, they wanted to know how the roses were doing(corporation based out of state).....So i edited out my truck, and sent the rest. But I uploaded to youtube before edit. Thanks...

Why ? I thought the 400 had a lower 1st gear ratio ? Is the 350 that much lighter does the engine have enough torque to overcome the difference between the ratios of first gear
@@glennmanchester1568 yes they do. My answer was based on experience with my dad's drag cars years ago. We are talking 3-5 tenths of a second. And these were very light cars, chevy lls and Vegas. Some powerglides were used as well. They had copper puck clutch disc. No torque converter. There is no doubt a th400 is better in nearly every way, case is stronger, internals from stock are stronger and so on. But the 350 has its place. Technology has pretty much ironed out its shortcomings. At a cost of course. If I was going to build a nitrous car, or turbo car, that I was going to beat on it every weekend, I would certainly use a 400. Otherwise, for street, a 350 is fine. Even a 700r4 is fine. Thanks for asking.
We have had several GM 60 degree's in our family. Never had crank problems. Some early small journal cranks had problems, pre 1985. This crank was micro polished and radiused. Other than that nothing. I have other vids of the engine running, and driving. Not really anything special, sounds good idling though. Thanks for the question
Pacesetter performance. They don't make them anymore. However, if u need ones like mine, that have the smog threaded bungs, then look at eBay number 173429162850(maximizer long tube) Pacesetter makes ones for the TBI 5spd manual version. But not carburetor version.
I don't know exactly what you are asking. If you have a 4spd, then a 5spd would have closer ratios, and make acceleration a little faster, and you will get better fuel economy on the freeway. But if you are wanting stop light to stop light performance I would change the rear differential ratio. Maybe a 3.73:1 or 4.11:1.
Is there any other place you can get headers !? Because i check that number in ebay and is only for a 82 to a 85 but mines a 1993 so is there any other place !??
Yes. Try these numbers: Headman 69410, JBA 1845-4JS (ceramic), and JBA 1840-3 (stainless steel). The Headman's are not emissions legal. The JBA's are. Hope this helps.
No. Not anymore. But I wouldn't recommend putting the kind of money I did into one of these. If anything put a 3.4 in its place, if you intend to have a 60 degree v6. Otherwise, do a LS V8 swap. These engines are limited to the cast iron heads which suck. That is why Edelbrock intakes have small ports on one side, and larger ones on the other, trying to balance the mixture, and produce both torque, and horsepower. GM did make race heads, but I doubt u can find them.
For all the money this guy spent on this 2.8 to get maybe 200hp he could have put in a 5.3 v8 and immediately without spending another dime had 300 hp. What a waste of time and money.
Well sir, in my location it is illegal to do engine swaps. I had a 4l60 and a lt4 ready to go, actually I still have them now. But I was told I can only put what the s series came with, i.e. a 2.5-4, 2.8l-6, or a 4.3-6. but thanks for the comment. I envy those that have loose state emissions laws....
The valve covers? Those are modified Pontiac Fiero GT/Formula cast aluminum valve covers. I refurbished them, and transferred the brackets from the stock ones to these aluminum ones. not difficult. You can get them at eBay or the Fiero store online.
I am not clear what your asking. But a stock 2.8 is 110 to 115HP. I have around 160 to 170 now. But its for looks really. Not really fast, but sounds tough. If i didnt have emissions laws here, I would put a Edelbrock intake on it with a holley 390cfm, or maybe an 500cfm AFB. The stock Vara-jet is about 350cfm. But reality is, a Small block chevy gen1 or LS swap is the way to go.
+Hugo Ocegueda Anything is possible. If you do not have to go through inspections you have less to worryabout. Because your truck has a TBI system it would be quite easy to put a OLDER 4.3L in with TBI. The wiringis nearly identical and thus you will have less time and money to spend on splicing and such. That said you will still have to change the computer out for a 4.3L one. The vortec out of that 2001 will be quite the challenge toswap over. A throttle body injected (TBI) 4.3 will be much easier and more cost effective. Someone in you areashould be able to help you out.
in every state it is easy to pass inspection when the engine is newer than the car. in ca. you just have to install the complete engine and all smog components of the vehicle the engine came from so it will have to pass 2001 emissions but that is a lot of work but it's worth it
Money and time. I would have dropped a in a mild 350 if i could have.I would never consider a 4.3, they have weak crank, and performance parts are difficult to find. Thanks for asking.
not much, maybe 160-170. Comp cams claims 220 @flywheel. It takes off very quick, but that may justbe the gears (3:73). It just looks and sounds good. People are dumfounded when its idling, because itsounds mean and assume its a V8. But when i accelerate you know it is a six.

Jimmy.
Gee.
Link for headers?
What's with the flowers mr. gmc? Shoulda had a v8
@leegmc1985 edlebrock intake,carb,heads, ect
i kinda like going with all the same company
awww aint that cute. little itty bitty motor
Looks great want my motor kinda like this
Thanks for the comment. Sorry for late reply.
@1990irocz350 U are luky....we are like CA. here in AZ. My headers are C.A.R.B. aproved, otherwise we cannot even put headers on anything newer than 1966.
Sanitary.. Nice..
Fiero valve covers?
If automatic car,
the Holly 390cfm vac. secondary would be good choice. If a stick you could use a AFB/Edelbrock
500 to 600cfm.
@leegmc1985 nope im in michigan and they dont give a shit bout that. thats one thing i love about michigan
hw0 much did it c0st and can y0u put a list 0f parts and what the b0re sizes are 0n diffent parts that was machined?
where u get ur heads from? anything special about em? i havent been able to find real performance heads for this any of the 60* v6
@leegmc1985 nope i have a bore .40 over 400 sbc, in a 90 iroc
haha takeing walk with moises and smelling roses.ha
Thanks...
I have to find these headers my 2.8 is in neeeeed
Maximizer Long Tube Header Fits For 1982-1990 Chevy GMC S10 S15 2.8L V6 2WD, eBay. Mine are Pacesetter brand, but they are not available anymore (ceramic coated). Copy and paste above.
looks funny not in a fiero
Where did you get the headers from?
+Norbert Sliwinski : Company called Pacesetter. They are ceramic coated. Believe it or not i bought their last set. They sold the tooling to OBX. The OBX version is made out of stainless steel. type OBX Exhaust header, 2.8L ,2wd. or type this listing=131736070689 @ EBay.
@1990irocz350 U cant beat the torque handling of the TH400, although TH350 will be slightly faster at the drag strip.
87 blazer 2wd, do they have hook ups for a smog pump?
Nice start but what the heck...we didnt get to see it perform. The 2.8 has a weak crank prone to breaking what did you do to the bottom end.
The 2.8 has a weak crank what did you do to beef up bottom end
We have had several GM 60 degree's in our family. Never had crank problems. Some early small journal cranks had problems, pre 1985. This crank was micro polished and radiused. Other than that nothing.
I have other vids of the engine running, and driving. Not really anything special, sounds good idling though.
Thanks for the question
Hey bro where did you get the headers from
Pacesetter performance. They don't make them anymore. However, if u need ones like mine, that have the smog threaded bungs, then look at eBay number 173429162850(maximizer long tube) Pacesetter makes ones for the TBI 5spd manual version. But not carburetor version.
is this a tbi setup, "electric carb", or a regular carb'd setup?
hey I'm here sitting and looking at your motor is there anyway I can get in touch of you I need a engine that is 2.8 v6 for a s10 I have
Were did you get the engine?
Hi i have a 84 Chevy s10 2.8 with original manual transmisión do you know if there are a manual transmisión faster to put on it?
I don't know exactly what you are asking. If you have a 4spd, then a 5spd would have closer ratios, and make acceleration a little faster, and you will get better fuel economy on the freeway. But if you are wanting stop light to stop light performance I would change the rear differential ratio. Maybe a 3.73:1 or 4.11:1.
Cute
Why evanescence ?
Sorry for late reply. At the time it was copy right free, so i used it.
Hope this helps.
leegmc1985 thanks
We’re can I get some headers for my 1993 s10 2.8
Look on eBay. OBX
If you have no air injection, just plug the outlets with brass plugs
@leegmc1985
plus i like the horses their products give me with out breaking
what is this a 2.8 crate engine?
Micromotor?
nice job ..but WTF?? with your flowers???
Do you have a write up on the work you did?
46 secondes de perdu. (2septembre24)
@leegmc1985 DUH, U MUST NOT HAVE EMISSIONS, is what i meant to say..
I envy those that have loose state emissions laws....
where did you get the dress up kit?
The valve covers? Those are modified Pontiac Fiero GT/Formula cast aluminum
valve covers. I refurbished them, and transferred the brackets from the stock ones to these aluminum ones. not difficult. You can get them at eBay or the Fiero
store online.
high pressure fuel pump, adjustable fuel regulator, turn it all the way up.
Will it get more power than a 2.8 s10 with unstock engine?
I am not clear what your asking. But a stock 2.8 is 110 to 115HP. I have around 160 to 170 now. But its for looks really. Not really fast, but sounds tough. If i didnt have emissions laws here, I would put a Edelbrock intake on it with a holley 390cfm, or maybe an 500cfm AFB. The stock Vara-jet is about 350cfm. But reality is, a Small block chevy gen1 or LS swap is the way to go.
lol backwards ass questions!? You asked if his built 2.8 motor will be faster than a stock 2.8 S10 motor!? Mmmmm let's see here, YES! Jeezus Christmas
How can I get in touch with you got a couple of questions
You can ask here...
i was just wondering if someone can put a 4.3 vortec engine from a 2001 jimmy to my 86 s10 i want to get it done but need someone who can do that
+Hugo Ocegueda Anything is possible. Someone in you areashould be able to help you out.
in every state it is easy to pass inspection when the engine is newer than the car. in ca. you just have to install the complete engine and all smog components of the vehicle the engine came from so it will have to pass 2001 emissions but that is a lot of work but it's worth it
@1990irocz350 Yep....
is your intake manifold stock?
Yes, indeed it is.
Just show the engine. No need for song
Ooooooook.....and?......eesh....
Wake me up! Lol it's a time warp!
Indeed, where have the years have gone...
the 4.3 is just a 350 with the front two cylinders chopped off why not use that as a platform the 2.8 is a complete dog...
Money and time. I would have dropped a in a mild 350 if i could have.I would never consider a 4.3, they have weak crank, and performance parts are difficult to find. Thanks for asking.
how much power?
not much, maybe 160-170. Comp cams claims 220 @flywheel. It takes off very quick, but that may justbe the gears (3:73). It just looks and sounds good. People are dumfounded when its idling, because itsounds mean and assume its a V8. But when i accelerate you know it is a six.
Needz a v8
Would love too. But swap is illegal where I live.
i have a 2.8 in my 89 chevy beretta :]
The music is so irrelevant
What a fn waste of money haaaaa
I'd move far away from that socialism stuff. Nothing I own would be legal out there. heh
