      Agufish I just wish fishman would make the tosin abasi 6 set in more colors and covers like white or gold. It has all the tones I want, but I don't want a boring black humbucker. I guess this could apply to all the signature sets lol

    • @alexrobi3824
      @alexrobi3824 6 лет назад +3

      You want my real thoughts about them?
      I watch all of your vids, even the ones with the fishmans... well, I don't like them... they sound even more lacking of character than any other active pickup set...
      I do not like the thought of changing batteries for my guitar at all but if I had to choose an Active Pickup it would be an EMG set for SHURE (lolz).
      I like the glass clear clean sound and at the same time the power of EMGs and for me the Fishmans sound too dull...
      Just my thoughts and sorry for maybe bad english, I am from Germany ;D

      +Agufish fishman's strat style pickups are kinda terrible. for a humbucker style, i prefer emg's retro active fat 55 set over fishman's pickups. they just sound really thick to me

    Interesting... I’m in the process of swapping the EMG 81/85s that came stock in my PRS SE Nick Catanese Signatures and MIK SE 245s/SE Tremonti in my SE Tremonti Customs with EMG’s newish Retro Active “Super ‘77” sets, which are designed similarly to the “Fishman Fluence” Pickups... and loving them to death, as they’re much more “Hard Rock” Pickups tonally, but can be pushed into \m/etal territory if needed. I’d love to hear an 81/85 or 89 vs Super ‘77 comparison, especially since both use EMG’s Quik Connect system and therefore swaps would be far easier than standard soldered Pickups. Maybe toss in a Fluence set as an interesting outside party?
    A question based on a previous review/reviews - are the ESP/LTD Singlecuts full-thickness or Slimmed-down, like the PRS SE/Core Tremonti vs their SE/Core “Singlecut” (which are 1/4” thinner) or Gibson’s Les Paul Custom vs their “Custom Lite” from a few years back? I’m primarily a Bassist/Chapman Stickist but have spent the last 6 months stepping up my “Guitar Game”. However I realize a PRS Core Tremonti at $3,300 base price would be wasted on me. However, a Japanese ESP E-II Eclipse or Kelliher at about 1/2 that price could be do-able as well as suiting my skill level in a year or two... assuming I keep this up. My first “Step-Up Bass” from my First Bass was an ‘92 Ibanez SR-800 (and you have *no idea* just how improved the Beginners and Low-Midrange Instrument market has become in the last 10-15 years 😱 - try and find a “Pro Session” or “Series 10” - the Bass I & Guitar my Brother started on - on Ebay or Craigslist for review... the hilariousness will be well worth the small amount you’d shell out) so I have much respect for Japanese craftsmanship. 👍🏼
    Great reviews, I’m subbing after posting this, and I’d love to see some “Shootout” Reviews of Combos what I’d consider the “midrange” price-wise, $800-$1200. A few off the top of my head: Blackstar HT Venue Series Stage 60 MKII 60W 2x12” Fender Bassbreaker 18/30W 2x12 or 45W 2x12”, and DV Mark DV 40 112 40 Watt 1x12”. Thanks for the great reviews and info!
    (and by the way, just who I’ve been since 13 needs to know... do you lay down a Bass track on your recordings, and if so, what’s your Gear & Signal Chain? 😉)

    Amazing video as always Hunter! You surely have the best demos on YT. Camera shots are awesome, demo songs are always fire and the reviews are unbiased. Also this Trivium riffage really made me curious as to what is your opinion on the new Trivium singles. What are your thoughts on them? Personally, I really like The Sin And The Sentence. Imo the riffs are great, the vocals are pretty awesome and holy shit the new drummer is an absolute beast on that song. The Heart From Your Hate tho is pretty meh imo. I mean the main riff is cool but the song seems super rushed. I mean there is no proper bridge section and no solo. It's pretty much Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus etc. for 4 mins. The song is okay but nothing special really.

      Depends on the pot values. The fluence need 25k pots. If you have 250k/500k pots they wont work.
      If you have active pickups then you most likely have 25k pots. If you have passive you would have 500k pots.

    Question, @Agufish, the link to the cleartones are 9s. Is that what you are using? I ask b/c I have a guitar that feels super tight and I've thought about going to 9s but was afraid of losing chunk. You have plenty of chugga chugga in this video, though.

    • @agufish
      @agufish  6 лет назад

      Yep, I use 9s. They aren't for everyone though, since they are very light. They don't feel as heavy to the touch, but for recording they still bring the chugs.

    I've always preferred passive pickups in the past, mostly because EMGs never did it for me; I always had to adjust my amp's tone settings when switching between clean and distorted. One thing led to another, though, and I wound up with an 8-string with FF's Moderns in it, and I didn't feel any desire to lose them. They're amazing. But now I want to swap them out for some FF Classics...

      Having now played the Lace dissonant aggressors (I have a bk600) and playing the modern fluence yesterday (in the new Schecter C-1 SLS elite, I'm sold. I have hated actives for so long, but the Fishmans have clarity, articulation, and range without coloring the sound, with great clarity of complex chords in high gain (was playing through a Friedman Small Box 50). I'll be getting rid of the DA's in my BK and putting in a set of the classics, while possibly buying the Schecter (another thing I've never gone for until yesterday).

    Any idea about how long it will be till the white Matt Heafy guitar becomes available...I know the first picture was just released. I emailed Epiphone but they have not responded. Just wondering if you've heard anything.

      Nooo idea. I don't think the Gibson folks are very pleased with me because of the Firebird Zero vid, even if I do praise their Epiphones on the reg.

    I'm torn between getting these or the Willie Adler set. How would say the cleans on the Adler set compare to these? I love the aggressiveness of the Adler set above these ones, but I am looking for something that will also have good cleans.

    • @agufish
      @agufish  6 лет назад

      They both have decent cleans IMO, and you can roll the volume back on all Fluences without losing any of the highs to get cleaner sounds that way :)

    Great demo and riffage as usual Hunter. I was wondering if you could order the different voicings kind of "ala cart"? It would be cool f you could pick the 2 different voicings you like and put them together (maybe they already do this and I'm unaware). I will seriously have to consider a set of these for one of my guitars. Your demo and Greg Koch's have convinced me these are the future. Keep up the great work and the zit can always be removed in "post production" ;-) LOL!

    • @agufish
      @agufish  6 лет назад

      Lol, removing zits in post-production is beyond my skill level. And that would be cool, but probably impossible. The sound comes from both the circuitry and the magnet structure. So while you can mess with the circuitry, you can't really swap bar magnets and pole pieces on the fly, or Alnico for Ceramic, etc.

    Ok. Do you think you could use emgs quick connect push pull pots you could avoid the soldering? Or is that just wishful thinking

    • @michaelshane9726
      @michaelshane9726 6 лет назад +1

      I don't see why not. I have both emgs and fluence sets. With either you'd still need to do minimal soldering at the jack and switch, unless your guitar is already set up for active pickups.

    • @agufish
      @agufish  6 лет назад +1

      Actually probably? They work with the normal quick-connect system (just Voice 1) so with push-pull pots I would imagine so? The Fishman team is pretty response if you shoot them an email.

    • @williamharrison54
      @williamharrison54 6 лет назад

      BrokenHero97 the fishman need a ground to the bridge/strings, the Emgs don't have that ground. I just swapped out the Emgs on my ltd ec500 for a set of the moderns, the install wasn't that bad

    • @agufish
      @agufish  6 лет назад +2

      The Willies kind of have a more passive response whereas the Moderns are more of like an improved pure active sound. For my money, I prefer the Willies :)

    wish you could do a comparison of the Willie Adler vs Townsend vs KSE vs Modern sets....so damn many its impossible to know what to get...so i know i won't end up getting any.
    As for these Classics, they aren't for me. they sound way to mid biased and not enough bass for my liking. great vid tho. love your work!!

    • @agufish
      @agufish  6 лет назад +5

      That's a really good idea... and it also sounds like a metric fuckload of work for me as one person. I'll suggest it to Fishman though, that's something their video team should really be putting together.

    • @Advcrazy
      @Advcrazy 6 лет назад

      Agufish yeah that would be a super tedious video to make. Thanks for passing it on to them though. Picking the differences between all the different signature sets seems a pretty common theme in the comments of all the RUclips clips I've watched.
      I reckon they should organize the guitars and fly you and a bunch of other popular guitar geeks to their head quarters to do your own videos...try suggesting them at to them ;)

      I tried the Devin set. Did not like at all. So hot you couldn't get a useable clean tone on that voicing. And the "strat" type voicing was weak at best. Just not for me. I bought into the hype, but was left extremely disappointed. Not to mention, Fishmans customer support over email was terrible. (I understand this was just my experience with one representative). I'll never buy another product from them after that experience.

      Adam Harmon thanks for the tip...looking it up now!
      Drew Sandefer that sucks man. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid so months later I still haven't ordered anything. I couldn't even get my hands on a Gibson Les Paul locally (small town in norway) so ordered online. It was set up soooo bad it intonated sharp at the first 4 frets. Sounded and played like shite. It's good now but I hate having to guess this stuff.

    I'll be honest. I'm luke warm about their pickups. They sound good like quality pickups sure, but I guess I'd need to hear them in person to make a judgement. Only 200 hours on a battery?
