- The Story Of The Best Shooter In The NBA: Japan’s Yuta Watanabe
Yuta Watanabe has recently gained some fame for his incredible 3-point shooting. However, this isn’t the first time Watanabe has had a taste of the bright lights as both pressure and expectations have followed him around for years. Dubbed the ‘Chosen One’ by Japanese media, Watanabe has had a lot on his shoulders since moving to America to pursue his basketball dreams. The journey hasn’t been as smooth as he must have hoped, but his current success must be all that more satisfying knowing all the ups and downs he has had to navigate to get here. This is one of the reasons why his story is so compelling. As it can teach anyone hard work, discipline, and a never give up attitude.

Yuta gives a example to lots of Asian hoopers who have the dream challenging NBA. He is an admirable player that make every endeavor to defense, grab rebounds and hit the three. That’s why the Nets coach always puts him on the court at clutch time.I love his passion and energy.Sincerely wish him has a long career. --From a Chinese fan
How cool your icon !
I like it !
Well you'll have to be a foreign asian too lol
Hope he won't end up like Jeremy LIn.
wrg
@@thornados4969 he will, there's no room for Asians in the NBA. As soon as he stop being super-human he's out.
nice video and all but bro, please stop with the "more on that coming up, you'll have to wait for the end of the video for that, but we'll talk about that later" IT'S SO ANNOYING
Exactly. I didn’t finish the video because of that. So fkn annoying. We’re here already to watch the video until the end. Stop baiting people.

Yes

Lol I watched more of the video just to see how often he said this. It's like every 30 seconds.
3 and D players are so valuable these days. Especially when they can switch. He is an asset to whoever has him.
he definitely cause teams to worry about the 3pt threat. it opens up the middle for Durant and others, drives and layups.
Hopefully, Yuta will be a good example to all, especially the younger generation, showing that hard work pays off!!!
Hopefully? ... he already is. He's just so humble and doesn't cause 'drama'... so camera isn't on him...
Yuta always works for the team .
I love this guy !
Go Yuta !
ありがとー!
Appreciate the love towards Yuta my guy. As a Japanese, I love watching his progress, great video! Keep up the great work. Love from Japan❤
Ever since he got dunked on and said it is what it is and he’d do it all again. I knew he was a real one lol.
It's nice to see yuta watanabe doing well and representing Japan. Much respect 🙏🏽 from România 🇷🇴.
Ever since discovering Michael Jordan's "spectacular move" in 1991, I became enamored with layups. Then in 1993, I discovered Drazen Petrovic and his prowess as a 3 point shooter and scorer, I became obsessed with 3 pointers. Players like Yuta Watanabe continue to inspire my passion for shooting 3 pointers.
I love the words that to continue hard work and discipline, all your dreams are possible. And Yuta shows us! He is our hero of Japanese!!!
Nah. Not hard work. Not “hard work.” /
I hope Yuta becomes one of the few Asian players to win a ring!
We Japanese are really appreciate to pick him up!!
Yuta proves nothing impossible when we continue try hard.
I've been huge on Yuta since last season.. If the Nets give him more opportunity, then he'd produce.. In his limited minutes, he's already hit a couple of game winners, and comes up big in the 4th.. Very solid 2 way player.
The Raptors didn't and look where they are now.
英語でこれだけ取り上げてもらえることが最高に嬉しい!Let's go Yuta the Shooter!!
All Japanese people appreciate yuta's hard work out which he chose to realize his dream.
A rare big men who can dribble the ball across the court...
What a good time to be Japanese, shohei otani for baseball and yuta for basketball
what about tomiyasu for football.
Don’t forget about the equally talented Japanese football (soccer) players and rugby players as well. The Japan rugby union national team is even better than the US team now.
@@MrYounis26
Good player. But mitoma might be better these days.
@@Marc3nejp for sure, i can't believe i have overlooked mitoma despite his dominance in the best league in the world
@@kyngo550 dont forget volleyball too, they have the monster trio
Love watching 😊 who agrees?
I'm a Nets fan, but haven't given this fellow much thought nor watched him closely. I will from now on ...
I had no idea this dude was this good. I mean, he has a lot of layers to this game. You cant play off him, he will shoot your eyes out and you cant be overly aggressive bec he can drag you to the rack. He is gonna get paid very soon.
Appreciate the accurate pronunciation. Nice job.
... sad the news isn't covering him more as he causes zero drama, super positive, works hard... very kobe-like. I actually think he can put up Kobe-like numbers if they gave him that 'chance'.
He actually plays defense, and the Brooklyn nets really need that since no one else does.
Claxton is one of the best defenders in the league, and O'Neale and Simmons are decent. With only Durant and Irving offensively contributing (for those players with substantial minutes), they have to play defense to be the playoff team they likely will be this year.
@@BrianKoontz Simmons when locked in is arguably top 3 on defense in the league and elite at defense lol
to have the defense of the year title and holding record for 3pt percentage, that is amazing in itself.
@@oscargee1173 Simmons the goat 🐐
@@BrianKoontz If I'm not mistaken KD is quite good defensively (?)
Japanese players in all sports are very hard working and they respect the sports. glad to see him succeed.
And other races are not ? Weird comments in this thread
@@callidawkins85 he means when he said very hard, some people or a lot of people overworking in Japan so that they can do their best in their Jobs.
@@jesalcasid1601 hard work ethic isn't exclusive to a race..just stop it
Japanese are very descipline people..
@@callidawkins85 Tell that to Kai sotto who failed lol
Sengun , Alpi just become 20 this year. He is so young and talented… Don’t miss him out 😉
That’s dope I’m watching him now
we miss you in Toronto Yuta! but i'm glad you're having success for New York!
His story reminds me of Drazen Petrovic some. Foreign born guy, hitting their stride with the Nets and one of the best three-point shooters I had ever seen at that point.
Yuta didn't show too much with the Raptors for 2 years so I understand why we moved on. But damn we could use his shooting this year.
Raptors offence didn't really promote helping him get his shot, I was upset they let him go. I saw his shooting as decent and liked his hustle. They messed up on this one
They didn't have guys like Kyrie, KD and BS giving giving him open looks often.
@@feelcollins4358 True, but they should have resigned him. I liked his game and saw potential for him to improve even with raps.
He showed a lot! He had one bad game right after contracting covid and never saw the floor in a meaningful way after that. Look at the investment they spent on Achiuwa. He was absolutely horrible but, everyone needs a chance to develop. I will never forgive Nurse for that and Justin Champaigne is next out the door if the coach doesn't smarten up.
A great pick for the 3pt contest
if anything, he would bring excitement to the city, the best shooter in the league with a good chance of winning the 3pt shootout.
@@stephenc2481 With curry being out I could see that
Never a star player, but a player needed as one of the five on the court
I like Watanabe. He is talented, skilled, well mannered as most Japanese people, humble and, most of all, does not do those silly moves which some players do whenever they score a basket. 👍👍👍
He's got a shooting form similar to Kyle Korvers...This dude is becoming in assassin from deep...
We Asian males are invisible at most of everything: movie, music (expect BTS) but especially in basketball. If you are not yellow male, you’d never understand this « you are not one of us » atmosphere every time you on the coat. Yuta must have faced that too. He’s not only physically gifted but able to change this harsh fate of all of us yellow brothers by his tremendous amount of work. After Linsanity, we really appreciate him too for giving us a chance to be in the society. Much respect!
Well said brother.
Reason I don't follow NBA anymore. Racism!
@@SuperJay12jay There are the 3 facts 1) Asian are smaller than others in their average height. 2) bigger is better in basketball 3) NBA is the highest level basketball league. I love basketball and watching high level of it. Racism is everywhere man, if you don’t like it you just need to change it as Yuta has been doing. Just hating it would change nothing
How old are you? I’m guessing about 12-13. Grow up, man!
Bro who cares about racism stop victimizing yourself base on race. If you are Asian man go out there become better become rich you’ll get bitches and status in society. Go follow andrew tate. It’s not that you need to be gifted. You need guidance and I’m giving you one right now.
Looking forward to his success
No one will ever be the 3pt king until the can create their own shot, shoot off the dribble and catch the way Curry does.
A few years ago, it was a dream for a Japanese NBA player to appear and play an active role. But now it is not a dream. I was born in a good time.
you guys now have rui and watanabe.
Thank you for sharing Yuta’s story as a new fan 🙂
You're welcome Mr Jones! 👊🏀
I think yuta's work ethic is very likely to get him a championship in the future
gotta love him man. besides his big frame, he got a big heart too
Hopefully more players from Asia will continue to make their way to the NBA and see success
Best shooter😩😤😤😤
ワタナベの活躍が楽しみ
J Lin and now Watanabe, great inspiration.
Linsanity!
Dude that made this video took notes on the, “more on that later” segments from local news
Basketball level in Japan is obviously lower than in the US. You need the son of 2 pro Basketball parents at 6'9, move to an American HS and college to make it to the NBA. Meanwhile in the US, you have the 6'2 son of an undrafted barber like Ja morant, who grew up practicing in his backyard, now dunking in the nba like crazy.
All those Nets guys have landed in the perfect scenario for them. Even KD and Irving. Simmons doesn't have to play any half court offense. Watanabe can just play hard on defence and he is going to get heaps of wide open 3s. Same with 4 or 5 other guys on their roster. They just need to find a big dude who will soak up some of the fouls from Embiid and Giannis so Simmons doesn't end up in foul trouble all the time.
Dwight
Yuta is also 6’8”, it is extremely rare for a Japanese man to have that stature without gigantism. That is probably another reason why there are not many Japanese or Asian basketball players compared to blacks, who in some places have average heights over 6’0”.
As a Raptors fan, it's great to see him succeed, even on another team.
Great story!
Once a Net fan, Always a net fan. (Since 2015)
Will this guy be in the three-point All-Star contest 2023? That would be a big deal.
Nets fan but haven’t really noticed him thanks for this now will be looking out for him
Hanamichi would be so proud of him
The best I’ve ever seen . Don’t leave him open.
They thought it will be Rukawa or Sendoh that will play in NBA... But it was Mitsui all along....
Put some respect on Curry's name the man made the entire nba shoot more three's hes gonna be the best for the next 20 years at least and maybe forever
"new 3-point king" ... the boy got lucky and people be thinking he so specaial
Best shooter.... can't dethrone Curry without having any accolades...
I was thinking the same thing, but definitely happy for him!

57% 3pt? Wow. That's crazy!!
His shooting percentage is insane. I really don’t know why they aren’t trying to get the ball into his hands more.
He's not black or white that's why.

The NBA as a hole, slept on this talented player 😢
I like Watanabe. Other Brooklyn Nets players should trust hm more, which means, give him more the ball because this guy is a sharp shooter.
They should but those black players won't let him steal the spot light from them.
NBAでMr.クラッチと呼ばれる渡邉雄太選手は凄すぎる👏👏
Yuta da Shoota! 😮
AGREE 100%
super good shooter
I had never heard of him before your video.
I remember him. He played for George Washington. Honestly surprised he made it to the nba. Didn't really stand out when he was playing in college.
Let’s go ! Wata !
RAPTORS should have kept him ! He has a good work ethic and was well liked.
They got rid of the wrong guy. It should have been Nurse.
@@keithmoriyama5421 fr the raptors 3 point shooting is piss poor they play like a team from the 70's,kawhi and gason absolutely carried them to the championship and nurse was 13th still not given the chop get a new coach thatt can teach the raptors how to shoot.
that sucks. you don't give up your best shooter. If anything, it makes the game more exciting and fans pay to watch, win or lose.
such a well done video!
He’s an incredible defender. That’s all I know about him.
that's amazing in itself, to be the premier defenders among NBA players.
He was a member of miracle generation
damn what a main character 😎
NBA, BLM, ALM, MLB, they all matter!!Discipline, hard work, and dedication for the game. Special moments in sports success stories!!
Japanese people are the most disciplined people. While this guy is trying to impress all of us in basketball 🏀 through hard work, another Japanese guy "Inoue" is knocking everybody out on the floor in boxing.
The monster is the real deal. P4P number 2 right now, probably number 1 after this year
My nephew who is half Japanese played in the College baseball World Series.
So Yuta maybe one of the pieces why BKL now seem unbeatable
so brooklyn is my fav team. And yuta is on that team.. AND WE HAVE THE SAME BIRTHDAY..?
Dont let this distract you from the fact that anthony edwards posterized the hell out of this man
Main reason I can't take this video seriously . We should be sending Yuta's family our condolences for their loss
I never heard of him till he came to the Nets… he is a great number six player coming out of the bench for Brooklyn…
Kai sotto has all the pressure on his country’s back
Good on Yuta.
Man, Tohoku/Sendai's Rui Hachimura needs some love/shoutout for his statline, accomplishments/work ethic, as he seems a more "tight" repersentation of Japanese basketball as a Japanese born player with true sterotypical humbleness/work ethic doing it up right! (ie. no family history/conections/basketball benefit, playied Highschool ball entirly in Japan, and his ability to turnaround his college eligabilty after his cultural and linguistical abilties were called into question).
Yutanity
Japanese basketball is very good with the 3 ball, just like Korea..That's based on what I've been seeing on FIBA.
never heard "more on that later" so many times in an 8 minute long video

His playing skills is similar to great legendary Goat Boston Celtics Larry Bird.
