you don't know what i'm talking about yet

isn't it a pity
isn't it a shame
yes, how we break each other's hearts

how we take each other's love

but how do i explain
why not too many people can see

My 80 yr old mother had never heard of Nina. So,I played this for her. My mama cried and it was a sad, beautiful moment that I got to share with her. Till my day- Thank you,Nina. EDIT Aug 2024. My dear sweet momma was killed, along with my baby sister,by an aggravated neighbor with a gun. I can't feel my heart anymore,Nina helps with that. Please hug your loved ones today❤
Beautiful.
Goose bumps indeed
Interesting. I played the video of Nina Simone playing/singing "Love Me or Leave Me" for my mother when she was about 102 and had the same reaction from her My Mom particularly liked the music of Bach and she would "put up" with jazz. I thought she would like the long Bach-like riff in the middle of "Love me or Leave Me". And she did like that. But she also loved the very jazzy part as well. My Mom died at 105 and I am now your Mother's age! But I did have my nine year old grand daughter listen to this piece and she really loved this! (I had given my grand daughter a child's level biography of Nina Simone that was written by a woman who lives in my apartment building.) My little grand daughter is now a fan of Nina Simone's music.
I’ve listened to Nina for 40 years and I still find new things .. this one I only discovered 2 years ago and I was blown away - she was so many things and the most beautiful soul ❤
The more I spend dome time on her sound the deeper I realise I need to go. What a PHENOMINAL LEGACY she left for all generations
I used to think Harrison didn't deserve the Lennon-McCartney monster that made him famous. But now I think the Lennon-McCartney didn't deserve Harrison. This song is timeless.
Here from Beau is Afraid. I thought I was a fan of Nina but can’t believe I didn’t know this one. It really was the perfect choice for that scene, the thought of seeing your love after so many years just made me tear up in the theater.
For such an anxiety-inducing movie, that beautiful scene with Parker Posey out on the porch felt so poignant.
Check out the original version by George also! I feel so connected to that song and was happy when I heard the lyrics.."ah thats George!"
@@ricardo_miguel13 Of course, the original is a classic!
Beau is Afraid, me too!
Same here! One million percent.
My heart is so full because this woman lived.
Hearing this song in Beau is Afraid was heartwrenching. Such a ghostly, emotional scene.
Couldn’t agree more. I’m watching that scene right now and immediately was blown away.
This kind of talent and emotion just doesn't come around anymore. Fan4life!
I love Nina Simone. Saw her live in Central Park in 1967. She absolutely blew my mind and has been one of my most very favorite females singers ever since.
When I heard it for the first time, I was fascinated in an instant. I think that's what songs and singers that will last forever are like that.
Nina your a wonderful poet thanks.
Thank you..Nina..for leaving your Treasures of Music!
This song is utterly perfect. There isn’t a moment too much, not a single thoughtless breath, everything about it is right on time, deeply felt and allowed to come to life with such devastating grace that I have no choice but to weep and weep. I am forever thankful for Nina Simone’s supreme mastery of sonic healing and transmission of consciousness! 🙏🏽
And second to that is your beautiful summary of the song. Thank you for putting it so beautifully
@@AntonSlavik thank you kindly. The music made me do it!
check out the original by George! Feel so connected to that sweet song he wrote when the Beatles split up.
Well said.
😢❤
Nina elevates Harrison's song to something even beyond Lennon and mccartney. The depth of soul in the lyrics cuts so deep as only the truth can. Harrison was truly one with God and he was conscious of it...and was not afraid to sing about it. Nina recognized this and was able to express and interpret his songs even better than George hmself could. It's like George was meant to write these songs for only Nina to sing.
No.
uhh ....not really.
@@Will-sh8kl if you can't hear how much she enhanced this song emotionally in her delivery you might not have a soul to hear with.
@@anthonyleonard285 Well it sounds like you’re a dumbass
@@anthonyleonard285just because someone doesn't share the same opinion as you does not mean they don't have a soul
I think if everyone heard this song, the world would be a better place.
My journey commenced in 1977 "Here comes the sun", I thought it was a great find only to find there was a world wide community that was ahead of me, I was last in line really. I've been on this journey till she passed on. I never once saw her on stage, but I saw her when she came to visit Mandela.
I just wanted to give her a little note to say, "Thankyou."
this is one of the one hundred reasons why Nina Simone is one of the best singers ever.
YEP!
The incomparable Nina Simone. She made every cover her own.
Jessica Falstein this wasn’t a cover though, this was her song
@@myeshajarrell2069 Actually this IS a cover of a George Harrison song taken from his "All Things Must Pass" album, and as Jessica Falstein says, makes it her own.
Myesha Jarrell You had never heard George Harrison's excellent All Things Must Pass? I hope you have. It is the best album made by any of the Fab Four after the demise of The Beatles. Beautiful song made devastatingly perfect by Miss Simone.
"She made EVERY COVER HER OWN!!"
Nina Simone...what a beautiful soul. She was too good for this earth. She was an angel 👼
your right, she have a beautiful soul livin in every song.
I really really really need this song right now, this version, by this woman. thank god for Nina Simone, and George Harrison. phew. what a year.
Kim Brakeley hey Kim. .. it's been 2 month. hang in there. I need it yonight. cheers. xxx
When posting a video of a cover version it's good to give source attribution, thanks to George Harrison and to you, Kim
I hope your year got better.... :)
What's wrong kim?
Kim Brakeley Time is the best healer of most things Kim. You commented 3yrs ago. I hope all is well now or at least better in your life.
You can hear Nina's soul when she sings. Her sadness bleeds through the notes.
Yes.... Spot on
If you haven't already.. Listen to little girl blue by nina
Beautiful
I'm still listening, & always will.
I must add....she wasn't JUST a cover Queen hahaha. As a classically trained musician, she could play any and everything, and SHE DID!! She penned many great original songs AND covered many, as well. LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice to see you here in the coments Lisa love your music too. Regards from Sweden
And the songs she covered she made her own. Love me some George Harrison, and am a huge Beatles fan... but she completely transforms "Isn't It a Pity" and "Here Comes the Sun."
...Is this Her Daughter???? If this is, Such a ''Gift'' She was and still is. Eye stumbled upon Nina Simone. But eye innerstand now this was no 'Happenstance''!!! Respect to this truly 'Priestess' fr fr!! Aug. 2020!
She touches my heart over and over again.
See "What Happened to You Miss Simone" on Netflix. She was indeed a classical pianist, but was denied those opportunities and directed towards soul and pop because that's what people knew a talented Black musician could do. Isn't that a pity?
No sé como lo hace Nina, pero siempre embellece más lo ya de por sí bello.
This is my favorite song by George, but I have never heard it like this before. I've also never been driven to tears by a song, and now I'm a sobbing mess. Love each other.
Joseph Halpern Cheer up..
Joseph Halpern This is also my favorite song but I like Billy and Eric's version better. Each version touches me deeply!
If we only could ,💔😔😞😢
Johnny Moondog and care and respect for all our fellow neighbors ... all the animals who share this planet with us too.
It is important to know the origination of a song...Nina is that enchanting, once she adds her essence to a song, it takes you on a journey that either makes or breaks you...I LOVE your honesty *_*
song aging so well like old wine. who listening in 2020 during quarantine
Edit October 2022: wow I wasn't expecting to gather alot of likes👍 "750"+, this tells me there's plenty of people out in the 🌎 world that ❤ good music.
PRIMO XP still in 2019 here. I can’t believe I can read comments from the future 😳
I came across this song 24 May 2020. I have a feeling this blessing will remain with me long after this quarantine is over
Listening. George Floyd.
I'm here.
God bless Ms. Nina.
One of my favorite songs by Miss Simone-but then every song is my favorite
Thank you George. Thank you Nina. Two greats so sorely missed.
this touches very deeply with how I feel about everything going on in the world right now, and it really is a pity that twenty-five years after this song first came to light matters have not changed. I care for you, whether I know you or not, I love you, and I wish you all the best. please don't get tainted by the cruelties of the world. we can make a difference if we propose ourselves to give.
+MSAZgreen Yes, we can.
things have changed - things are worse
arubybluebird 😘💕 love you too wherever you are.
ow, this is so beautiful, all my love to you too
The best advice I can give to you is to enjoy life for what it is and not what you want it to be, or you’ll always be chasing a tomorrow. Let that anxiety go and maybe others will catch on and the word will spread over the hills across the river and into the valley
I'm crying like a baby, Nina and George just touch my heart.
Rocio Conde kudos bro ✊️✊️👊
Me too
Me too. I'm feeling
NINA IS A FORCE!!! Unforgettable.
Ascoltare questa Musica e questa Voce fa bene al cuore e all'anima! 💙❤️💙
This song is everything. Especially for 2020.
“We just forget to give back
Cause we're moving too fast
Moving too fast
Forgetting to give back”
…and 2021
Love Nina but hadn't heard this song till I saw Beau Is Afraid. Was a pleasant surprise to hear her voice on the big screen in IMAX. Looked up the song right after.
it's by George Harrison, he wrote it one night when he left the Beatles for a while because he saw they fell apart. When I heard the lyrics in the movie I was happy that my favorite George song gets recognition!
Gorgeous creature of light
Well, that caught me out... I have often listened to Nina Simone, but this song got the tears flowing... quite unexpectedly.
I wanna hug this song.
Lmao good comment
I was hugged BY this song 😌
yes.
also here for beau, most emotionally palpable moment of the movie for me. made me legit tear up watching his defeated stare with this song playing in the background, he looked so tired.

She was ahead of her time….but we didn’t listen…..stilll not listening now the world is full of plactic it sicks to our souls to our lives and for generations after. Thank you Nina so powerful in so many world through your songs….. I was about 8 years when I heard your beautiful voice. It has resonance now merely 70 I am listening Ito you as always. Thank you
This woman touches my soul like very few. I find her mesmerizing. Thank God for her.
whenever I listen her singing it goes straight to my heart, its like she sings her heart out and it resonates to the listener...
From her heart and soul!!! It makes me almost cry because I feel this so much
This is literally soul music.
She was out of this world and this time. She came from somewhere else. She delivered the message and left.
She's still here and everywhere, but we have to listen.
@@TAndrackeH yes sister
Truly.
Truly.
She turned this song into an intense slow burn. It smoldered at some points. What an amazing cover!
Nina was a cover Queen who take anyone's song and make it her own. She covered Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, Paul Anka, Bob Dylan, Barbara Streisand, Mama Cass, Tina Turner, and many more. A consummate artist and one of the best live entertainers of our time, God Rest Her Soul. She is missed.
We understand you Nina
That is why we love you.
Thank You.
She owned that song. Actually, she owned all the songs she ever touched.
My immediate reaction in the first 30 seconds of this.
Amen
Yes, composer George Harrison has poor version of this song.
@@aramidekay5448 Hers is definitely better. She was quite a presence, both signing other peoples' song as well as her own.
She had an unpleasant personality, though.
@@aramidekay5448 Comparisons kill. Both versions are beautiful.
This goddess was connected to the source, channeling the vibes, seeing and feeling reality
This killed it then, and kills it sixty years later. Nina, you gave so much. Your message is still alive and waiting to be heard today. Thank you.
This is a powerful song of self-introspection and reflection on your role on other people's life. I love you Nina
Menzi Botshelo, yes. And it's a real pity that so many people can't see these open doors, or think about caring...a real damn pity.I see it everyday, I see it in myself. All the missed opportunities to show each other we do care. And the way we can be so careless with love--the very thing we should cherish and handle with care.
It is a pitty that most people think love is just a word. Listening to this still 2020.
Overused by too many people and means less than any other four letter word... It is a pity.
i can never stop loving this song... thank you
this is what i was listening to in my 20's.
this is where i go to church.
I ll never go to churches, and yet this music touches me like few others, go figure
You know the truth ... no need for church!!!! We can find peace , love, connection, appreciation and progress within our hearts and minds and through music :)
Beautiful truth. Breaks my heart that generations missed this song.
I am only 27. The beauty. Her messages with her music. Beautiful. She will always be here. Master
A force of nature a troubled mind a gift to us all. Thank you miss Nina.
She is a wonderful artist. I love her.
❤ two of my spirit guides together Georges passionate lyrics about loss and Nina Simones voice of intimacy and eternal wisdom!
beautiful spirits
All the love, from Morocco 🇲🇦❤️
I think that the English language is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever happened to admire. I’m so lucky to be able to read, write and speak 3 languages; it makes me travel the world and live different lives however the harshness I live in.
Keep shining, beautiful people ❤️
I am touched by this song..I am mesmerized...I am inspired...I am thoughtful...I am moved to love more, to forgive more, to be more caring, to respect more, to look for the goodness and beauty in people...to think that there is still love in this world despite all the crime and violence, despite all the hatred, despite all the wars and destruction...there is hope..there is love....this song has touched my innermost...and this is 2020..maybe this is the year of change for me and for you. Sending love from Belize to the rest of the world..sending love to you!
Remembering Miss Nina Simone on her 83rd birthday...much love
Merci Merci Merci Merci Merci Merci Merci Merci Merci !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Magnifique version !!!
Very great song of a very famous lady ... Thnx so much 4 sharing!
This singing is exquisitely oozing “Soul”. It hugs my heart and brain and swing me back and forth like a baby in my mum’s arms. Same “being” experience as when listening to Um Kalthoum in Inta Umri.
Thank you Nina for helping me see the “beauty that surrounds us”. You are definitely part of “The beauty”. However I feel deeply sad that you had to give so much to learn about “The beauty” and subsequently so generously and unselfishly pass it on to us.
Be assured that I will pass it on to my child who I hope will pass it on to someone in the future.
Thank you Nina Simone
oh Nina what a loving, sensitive soul you were! your life was not in vain, because of you, we can lisyen to this song! LOVE YOU NINA WHEREVER YOU ARE...BE WITH ME TODAT, EMPRESS!
Some of my favorites, fantastic. thanks for sharing
just found this song last night and have barely stopped listening to it since.... Those crushing keys, ninas voice, it all adds up to something very special. It truly is amazing how just hearing a song can stop you in your tracks and make you put it all in perspective... What a gift to the world this song is
The profound effect of the voice with her own instrument overpowers.
This is a timeless song...It is exactly how this world is today...Not ALL of us...BUT theres an overwhelming truth to this that breaks my heart in 2💔 God help us...🙏
makes me think about how we take life for granted
Great song and great woman
I am in awe of Nina Simone I heard her on a "Juke Box" on the south side of San Antonio It was about 1973. Her mind was about a hundred years ahead of me. Rare as a Red diamond.
Lilac wine is one of my favorite songs.
Oh Nina...you feel every word you sing...❤
Canção linda de Harrison, profunda, como ele foi, e sem chances de não se emocionar; na voz de Nina, eu até choro. Demais !
Sublime...
I've learned half of my life's feelings from Nina, thank you , from the bottom of my soul dear Nina....I wish I could see you , but unfortunately I was to young in the time of your life....:(
cried a bit and knew. . I was in hurt. . pain in my heart melt away and dissappear after i listen to this song. What a singer she is. .love her so much
One of the best songs ever made on this earth think about folks".........
I'M HERE IN 2020 & RIP NINA, NOTHING HAS CHANGED, WE HAVEN'T CHANGED, SAD 2020
It is a pity. I change by having to reign my love in for all the reasons this song gives but her comforting tones makes it all OK.
Good God,this version is supreme!
bakedzale We are ALL so very fortunate to at the moment have this YT vid to go around and spread Nina's great cova of this Beatles tune. Time of the present is always true to the past, and a reflex and response of our future.
You can tell she was really feeling this one. She nails it! Beautiful darling.
Nina Simone one in a million .it is a huge lost by losing her but she is in a better place.may God bless your Soul
i'm glad there s always a song from Simone i discover by chance :))
treasurous artist with infinite talent
This extraordinary ARTIST is so undervalued and not given the respect that she do richly deserve and has earned! Bravo to one of the most unique and talented vocalist!! BRAVO Ms. Simone!!!
Please go listen to ALL of her songs. There is a story in every song and you will learn something. Many, if not most of her songs, are life-changing, truthful, expressing deep emotions, comforting, funny, and just music about reality; real life stuff. She sings, "Cotton Eyed Joe" and gives it a sweet and loving meaning--come on now. Her style is just deep.
this isn't her song, its a cover of a George Harrison song
I’ve been listening to George’s song all the time. From Eric Clapton on ‘Concert for George’ to Peter Frampton. I could never remotely imagine this song being rendered this way. I am most grateful for being able to listen to this song by Nina. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Beautiful, id love to have seen Nina and George on on stage playing this together x
Nina I wish you were here now to experience the power of this recording. This is the sound of heartbreak.
I just heard this recording for the first time and it' a pity I hadn't heard it before now. HOWEVER there is no time more perfect for a life changing song. This is a masterpiece. Im vulnerable at this moment listening to this song and it's the greatest feeling I have had in years.
Gorgeous!
It's a pity that this is my first time ever hearing this song. #Beautiful
Perfect proof that there's truth in " Better late than never.".

This woman was magic, the type that happens only once 👌💞💞💞💞💞
Thanks for your healing words Nina..
she owned this song. i bet george was very happy with her rendition.
What a talent to make every song her own! Unique and fabulous!
when Nina touches a song, she owns it from then on forever.
Though she does a fine job she does not own the feel of this song. To many great interpretations to say one owns a tune another has written.
