Not taking someone serious because of the color of their hair or the tattoos that they have seems more like a problem for the person who feels that way than the person with the hair or tattoos. Just because someone expresses themselves differently than you doesn't mean they're not serious or completely capable of doing the job that they're there to do, since when does any of those things get in the way of how smart or successful a person is? I love Matt, but I think that has to be the most craziest statement I've ever heard him say on here.
Matt is so old fashioned. I hired my accountant 12 years ago *because* he had tattoos (and a cat). Tattoos and colored hair do not mean unprofessionalism, they mean people care about their appearance and pay attention to hygiene, creativity and care for themselves.
yes exactly!!! i work in an insurance office & one of my coworkers has pink hair and i have purple & it doesn’t affect our work or productivity in any way

She said it never felt natural even when she would practice but was afraid to ever use her right hand again. When I was little I asked her if she was a Doctor because her handwriting is so bad lol
definitely not as drastic, but in general the "right way" to hold a writing utensil. I get trying to guide people in at least writing legibly, but if someone only uses their middle finger and thumb but write like it's from a typewriter, who cares?

I JUST came back from a funeral. It was over 3 days and a military funeral. Day 1 was the wake. Day 2 was the church service. Day 3 was the burial. I wore 3 black modest dresses and was pretty much the only one doing that. The average guest age range was 35-70. I was shocked to see no one else in all black. Only during the church service did i see the most formal, dark clothed attire. And this was hosted in New England if that makes a difference.
Regarding the whole last name thing and as someone who has a hyphen last name I think it's also important to point out that its pretty normal for Mexicans to have them. And I do not think you guys realize this, with Erin saying just pick one. It's sorta part of our culture and I love having two last names being that it represents both sides of my family and it never bothers me at how long my name is. Same goes with changing our last names it's also not that common to change them once we get married. My mother never did and her mother didn't either, and I for sure am not planning to either. Also my boyfriend is korean and his mother never changed her last name either because it's not common to do so. Overall, I think it's pretty important too to realize that culturally things are different than what you guys are used to in America.
a teapot and kettle are different, as a brit it’s heartbreaking😂 kettle - boils the water a teapot - you pour the hot water into with the tea bag/leaves and leave it to brew
Matt's inner boomer came out when they were talking about hair color. I think someone having a different hair color and that distracting you is a little old school. That's like getting mad at girls for their skirts being too short and this distracting you. In a perfect society my doctor would wear a brat green bathing suit and pink hair and I wouldnt give a f*ck or get distracted or even question her because she is my doctor and A doctor at that. Sucks that people go to medical school for a decade and someone would question their validity based on hair color ?
but why is having colored hair not considered professional? if it’s styled in a way that makes sense for the job… i think that’s crazy to think anything of it
Actually fun fact about wearing white at weddings! While it is widely believed to be tied to purity, brides often wore blue to their wedding ceremonies until Queen Victoria got married she wore white so she started a huge trend which is now the norm!
I honestly never commented on here before but it me or does it sound like Matt sound is kinda off and he’s in another room lmaoooo. Love the podcast just wanted to know it’s was just me.
The hair color conversation made so mad because someone’s hair color/tattoos shouldn’t be a problem for you. I also think that you shouldn’t take away someone’s accomplishments because of their hair color, If someone went to school to be a surgeon then honestly they have every right to have green hair..If that bothers you then that’s a YOU problem.(and it’s not unprofessional)
omg does anyone remember the shower station thing science classes had? I just never liked the whole Mr/Mrs/Dr thing...I just have always, whenever possible, just referred to someone rather than address them with a name unless I'm trying to get their attention....other than the specifically only use Mr to refer to the principal because he was a jackass to intentionally disrespect him. Same with the respecting your elders thing, I'll grant any person an initial level of common respect, but you don't get special levels of it just because you managed to not die. We're in a world with antibiotics, vaccines and seat belts, not reaching old age takes bad luck or terrific stupidity for the most part.
