- Eddy Ouwens (born 30 May 1946, Rotterdam), aka Danny Mirror, is a Dutch musician and record producer.
He was a founder member in 1966 of the Rotterdam based group, Eddy Nelson & the Eddysons. After a few hits he left to work as a producer and produced Teach-In, Bolland & Bolland and The Shoes. In 1970, he released the single, "Everybody's Nobody" / "Every Little Sigh Becomes a Lie", under the name Eddy Owens.
Ouwens co-wrote the Netherlands Eurovision Song Contest entries in 1975 ("Ding-A-Dong" performed by Teach-In), and 1978 ("'t Is OK" performed by Harmony).
In August 1977, following the death of Elvis Presley, he recorded and released the single "I Remember Elvis Presley (The King Is Dead)" as his tribute to the departed 'King'. In UK, it entered the UK Singles Chart on 17 September 1977, had a chart life of 9 weeks and peaked at number four. In his native Netherlands, the record made number one.

Ik kan mij voorstellen dat het heel erg groot nieuws was. Misschien dat de dood van Michael Jackson het enige was dat in de buurt komt. Iedereen in de wereld kent Elvis. Weinig artiesten die zo'n grote sterrenstatus bereikt hebben. Weet je ook nog hoe dit lied in Nederland ontvangen werd? Ik begrijp de negatieve kritiek. Het is een ode, maar hij imiteert Elvis en dan ook nog eens vrij kort nadat hij overleden is. Ik kan mij voorstellen dat het verkeerd valt bij sommige mensen.

In The Netherlands, when the single came out, some people accused Eddy Ouwens of corpse picking. But knowing him, which I think I do as far as this matter goes, I am sure he wrote the song out of an impuls and with great admiration. Normally Eddy produces songs, but for this time he decided to sing himself. Maybe it is not his best singing but surely it is straight from the heart.

@Jani Sambleben: Danny Mirror's real name is Eddy Ouwens. He's from the Netherlands, and here in his home country he's one of the most successful record producers and music writers ever. He's in influential man in the dutch music industry! For example he co-wrote the dutch 1975 Eurovision winner 'Ding-a-dong' and won the contest once again when he was head of delegation for Norway's Bobbysocks ('Let it swing') in 1985. He composed and produced dozens of hits over the years (mainly in the 70s and 80s). Apart from that, he used to own a record company and was also a radio DJ and composed the music for many major television commercials. Nowadays he's still active, but low profile. He's 69 years old right now.

I remember when Elvis died and I Heard this song only 2 hours after the announcement, seems like somebody make this up to make Money out of his dead, I hated this song down to my bones and I still do. I love Elvis and I sound like him when I take my guitar and do it when my friends wants me to sing his songs.
Danny Mirror, alias of dutch record producer Eddy Ouwens, was in a studio recording with dutch pop group Teach-In, when he heard the news about Presley passing away on the radio, during a break in the recording sessions. Broken and completely in tears (he was and still is a big Elvisfan) he started strumming a melody that came up in his mind on a piano, and hummed a bit to it. In his emotions, he went on with the melody and didn't even notice that the rest of the band had come back to witness what was goin' on. And they were so impressed that they remained completely silent, not wanting to interfere. When Eddy stopped and noticed the band members, there were in tears. They strongly advised him to complete what they had just head, and release it as a record. That same night he completed the song, and the next day it was recorded and released. So no, not with the goal to make money out of Elvis passing away. But just out of love for his musical hero. He even sued a dutch DJ who accused him of that (too), and won that trial. And he never expected it to become the international hit it turned out to be. So please, next time think before you judge and make someone look bad. Thanks in advance.
