This is probably obvious but this was the first episode to air after 9/11. South Park actually paused airing episodes when the attacks happened and thought this would be the best way to make people feel better after such a devastating event
Just like 2020. Every time something happens everyone has to react with mindless emotion, and media ramps it up to the nth degree, and opportunistic politicians take full advantage of it. Every time.
If you’ve seen Scarface you’ll enjoy MFC even more. And The Losing Edge is great because it’s the episode that turned Randy into the crazy character he will be for the rest of the series.
The opening of this episode came very soon after 9/11 and Mat and Trey had a plan to reset people from their abject terror of the stuff going on (there were ricin attacks and everything in the post) so they decided to make the opening this, so over the top that people couldn't help but laugh at the ludicrousness of it along with the lines they said.
Stuff like this brings back tons of memories. The late 90's/early 2000's were a pretty crazy time to come of age, particularly in the US, and chain of events that were the subject matter in this episode were such a big part of that.
So an interesting thing about this episode is that the Afghan Kids are speaking an actual language while the terrorists just say "durka durka." South Park doesn't pick on people who don't deserve it. (And yes, all celebrities deserve it)
22:53 Because Trey and Matt are men from Colorado, they express their support for Denver Broncos (American Football team). Although, they are not afraid to make fun of this team, when they deserve it.
Yep, back when this aired, like a shock to an immune system, there was a sudden surge of patriotism. Flags everywhere. And anyone who tried to speak out rationally on the nuance of the situation was shouted down for being unpatriotic. Even as a kid I thought it was overblown. But a lot of the adults where scared, so we where as well.
3:20 Oh, yeah. From this episode South Park became really popular, which allowed show to get enough money to hire voice actors/actresses to voice foreign characters. Yes, the Afghan kids spoke an actual Farsi (Persian) language, not made-up sentences.
They did add Towelie to this episode, just for that joke, but it was also the very next episode after Towelie was introduced. Ha ha! Pretty sure you meant Uncle Sam! Uncle Ben is a brand of instant rice.
I like how cartman has a crush on cupid me, dressed like that in this episode, was a girl on the episode W.T.F. and people have the balls to call him homophobic And Spoilers, it won't be the last time you'll see him dressed as a girl

Im just glad that i was too young to process the extent of the tragedy
@@effooo2000Same here. I think I was in 1st grade when it happened and couldn’t really remember much at the time of the event.

@@spencershaw4419 Flippity Floppity Floop is the correct one I believe.
Please watch South park bigger longer and uncut

😂😂 "On crack. And cocaine. And heroin. And methamphetamine."
13:19 Their lack of Pac-Man faces is a dead giveaway.
Derka Derka actually originated in this episode, they just cribbed it for Team America
