I heard this song last night on an Internet radio station (EHM in south Hampton NY) and loved it. I never heard of them/him before. So, I gotta lot of catching up to do now. Anyone who sounds like this AND...has a McCarthy-look is okay in my book!
I've purchased both new albums online and am so glad I did. His material is amazing and he is one of the most versatile guitarists ever and I am so glad he is solo. I think his music is just getting better and better!!!
I clicked on this video with very low expectations. Actually, I've been putting off listening to this album all together. My mistake! It's not the maverick against-the-grain music the Smiths made, but it's a damn fun listen. Johnny Marr has talked about making music like this since the 80s. Nice to finally hear it!
thumbs up anyone else who attended johnny's signing session at piccadilly records in britain's best city manchester today. what a nice man with no pretentions and stayed late so evertone could get a photo,a signature and a chat.

Was never a massive fan of The Smiths, but came across this tune totally by accident. Was a bit of a scooter riding Mod in my younger days (1980s by the way lol) & this tune totally blew me away...started to listen to more of Johnny's stuff & its brill...going along to his gig in Glasgow next month & cannae wait, but bet I look out of place :-)
this reminds me of a band called Marion- who were from Macc and around in the early 90's. Johnny produced some of their singles in the time when he was doing Production/Recording/mixing
I was set to see him at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. I hadn't looked more forward to anything this past year as it was a tough year, but unfortunately he had to cancel because someone in his family got sick or something. I hope everything worked out alright and he can come back to Southern California (San Diego).

'Upstarts' is cool, the guitars are great, the lyrics are simple, but maybe they are very meaningful... (I can say the same about The Messenger's lyrics) I am sure that 'The Messenger' will be a great album

My intention was that Moz was always implied to be the more pop driven of the 2; while Marr was the experimenter, production-wise and song-wise. This song, and a bunch of what I've heard from Johnny's live recordings, prove that Johnny may be better at crafting pure pop vocal hooks than Moz ever could; and I really mean that..just wait until the album. Keep on Johnny!

I saw Johnny Marr live at the Brixton Academy a few years back and he was excellent.
