Tip: seal edges of the cut wood with resin to waterproof (prevent rot).

Youre correct! Before installing, I went in with a chip brush and coated the inside lip with some resin. That’s usually how water gets in! 👍
I know you're done with this boat but just wanted to give you some quick advice hit you're edges first and then spray long strokes the length of the whole piece for better and even coverage I've been painting for 20 + years trust me only wanted to help

Is there a brand name on that hatch ?
No not on this one… the marine liquidator store buys tons of them from boat manufacturers so it might have come off a pontoon builder that builds their own more than likely. Sorry🤙
