      Oh wow! Congrats! Well, if you need help on doing the transom, we did it on a 19’ tarpon and the video is on our page! Those are sweet little boats! 🤙

    Great job my friend i must confess three things i live in a condo no space to do boat work i was a very busy builder no tine to do the boat work and the main reason i didn't do it i lack the patience .all that said yes i have the passion for it to be done and done right i got luckey and found Ceasar he was the retired fix it guy for punch out of Intrepid boats and rwo things one great nice guy and super talented with a no compromise attitude.
    Net result much better boat than when it came off the plant floor in 1979. Real head turner.

      Thank you so much! I’m very lucky to have my parents house to keep our boat. We can’t store her where we live. And luckily I did have the time albeit very little to work on her for a year and a half.
      I bet your boat is looking sweet! I’m learning from scratch so I constantly make mistakes and end up having to do things twice or three times. Still lots of fun though! 🤙

    Dude thank you for this. I have a Gw chase 273. I need to do my tank cover and bilge cover.

      Youre very welcome brother! Make sure the cover is 1/2” core or 3/4” core. I had to adjust this one because I used 3/4 and it was 1/2. 🤙

    Man, I'm proud of you for not shying away from the project. Reminds me all the blood, sweat, and tears with my boat 😅

      lol thank you! There’s plenty more just keep watching. I’m working on some more rot on the bow gunnel tomorrow which will make an interesting video. Never ends with boats! 🤙

    A little tip for next, wet the wood with resin first. If you don't the dry wood will pull the resin resulting in a dry non-bonded layup

      @perfectfitboating  Год назад +1

      That’s a great tip! I learned that about halfway through doing the stringers and it helped so much. That dry would can really suck a lot of that resin right out of the 1708! I had to go back, grind and layup more glass on the dry parts🙄 thanks for the tip! 🍻

    Hello, great video, how much product did you use if you don't mind me asking.

    • @perfectfitboating
      @perfectfitboating  2 месяца назад

      I’d say about 2 yards of Matt and 1708 and about 3 gallons of resin 🤙

    Question. Could you have used the same liquid used for the transom to rebuild your fuel tank cover.

    • @perfectfitboating
      @perfectfitboating  5 месяцев назад +1

      Great question. Not the same exact liquid. They make other liquids that can be used for stringers and bulkheads! Makes it really easy. Pour and done! 🤙

    How's the transom and stringers?

    • @perfectfitboating
      @perfectfitboating  Год назад

      Stringers were replaced. You can check out our other videos called “stringers and bulkheads” where we rip everything out and replace the rotted wood. Transom is 80% solid I’d say with most of it being solid where the bracket is down to the keel. We’ll end up redoing it in about a year or so.

    I wish i could find MGP for 98$... count yourself lucky it's closer to 200/sheet here

      I believe when we got that plywood was at the beginning of all the inflation… it’s gone up significantly ever since. Some places 160$ a sheet

    I threw all of the rotten wood in a cardboard box and the trash guy took it.

    • @perfectfitboating
      @perfectfitboating  Год назад +1

      All the big pieces with fiberglass got thrown in the trash. The rest was mulch. How’d your cover come out?

      @@perfectfitboating, So far extremely well. I’m in the middle of the job. Since I have never done this before I am really taking my time. I want it absolutely perfect, and I (we) don’t get a second shot at using Seacast. I had everything spotless, no wood remnants at all, everything sanded with 60 grit sandpaper, and washed in acetone. I polyester epoxied 2 very thick random oriented stranded fiberglass layers on the inner forward wall. Next I mixed up a batch of resin and lots of random length fibers I cut, and mixed them in and made a thick paste. I spooned it all along the lower edge of the inner forward wall, thereby completely sealing off any ability for water forward of the transom to intrude into the transom cavity. The corrosion on my boat was horrible. There was no other way to do a good job unless the aft wall was cut out. After cleaning it up properly, I coated the cut sides of the rear removed piece and also coated the transom cut edges, and then mixed some more of that resin/cut fibers mix and slathered it on, and set the wall in place. After getting it flush and secure, I hand-packed with a plastic knife some of that mix manually along the entire seam. After it set up solid, I sanded all of the protruding fibers and layer a nice one of duct tape along the entire cut. That is where I am now. Ready to pour in the Seacast!

      @Mike Welch sure is a lot of work! Don’t miss any of the grinding I’ll tell you that! We’re thinking about using sea cast for the transom! I hear great things about it. Tbh we don’t want to tear down the inner wall it’s actually very thick and I’m great shape. And im confident we can successfully take out any pieces of wood from the transom cavity! Not too many videos of people doing SeaCast you should record it! We’d love to hear how it came out!

      @@perfectfitboating, I should. I’m not very well versed in that area, but I will try recording the final phase, and narrate how I got to that point.
