The comparison with Maoism and the cultural revolution is so on point. I grew up in China and have read and watched so much about cultural revolution. Hope the US cultural trend can hit a brake before going that far.
You lost me at the "after the murder of George Floyd". 1:25 Floyd was not murdered -- he had preexisting heart disease, an enlarged heart, high blood pressure and recent documented drug use, which all led to his death. This all came into play when he physically resisted arrest. Dr. Andrew Baker, Hennepin County’s chief medical examiner, said that there was no physical evidence of asphyxia, or insufficient oxygen.
Typical McWhorter -- how being a linguist makes him a forensic expert able to determine that Floyd was "murdered," is anyone's guess, but credentialism apparently goes out the window if your political heart is in the right place? Why not just not make a claim about the subject, rather than weigh in on this issue? It's the Neil DeGrasse Tyson of linguistics.
"But the exthperts!!" You can always tell a simple mind from their appeal to authority. As if "experts" can't be bought or intimidated into lying. We spent 2 years watching experts be wrong about covid, but some people still have clued in that the myth of expertise is over.
@@thehmcConfused why you chose my comment to respond to with this. I don't disagree with your general idea but it has precious little bearing on what I wrote and thought. You seem to fixate on the one word "expert" and go out on a different riff.
... Very nice... I discovered your channel by following John McWhorter around.

I'm concerned about freedom of religion! The courts seem to me hostile to it
Maybe professors and academics should find their balls and tell the truth.
Good stuff cheap. Thanks.

Don't be stupid. No I'm not a lefty. Trump 2024. No knee on throat Floyd would be alive.
