  • Jr, because it's a bit smaller then my other GoBox I've posted here in the past. Thanks to Jose, KD2HHU, for the idea of this rendition.

    222 like.
    Jealous of the knowledge and that cool color case. Know you were concerned about the drilling and brackets but it looked professional. Well done.

    I also used the 12ah Bioenno. It is not too big. Opinions are varied and you use what works. I chose that size battery because I will use the box for charging other devices and want the ability to power small electric appliances such as small fans. Heck, my next build will be the next I will get a 15ah Biopenno, minimum!

    You listed the antenna as a Pryme AL-800. Where did you find one with a PL259 connector? Ideally, I want a telescoping (11" when collapsed) dual band 1/2 wave (since there is no ground plane) with a PL259 base. Haven't found one yet.

      Greg, the AL-800 comes with a BNC connector so I just used an adapter.

    "Got this nice, expensive, waterproof box here"...."let's drill holes in it..."

    • @kc6tyd
      @kc6tyd  5 лет назад

      jmax7733 , I'm not sure I understand your comment. Were you asking how much the box was? I don't recall but it wasn't that expensive. As for the water resistants of the box, I'm not planning on taking this into water and the few holes I drilled into it should repel minor splashes.

    Looks great. Whats to keep the top from closing and the antenna from whacking you in the face though? Is there not room for a 90 out the back?

    If you ever make another, or if anyone else is looking for one, Powerwerx offers a 4 hole panel.

      SOVT, yes! I found one at the last Pacificon and have already updated the GoBox.

    What did you use to make the face plate? Where did you get it?
    Thanks

      Frank Bier, when you buy the box there is an option to order the plate with it as well. I did that. Have a great day.

    Great job. A couple of suggestions: 1) If you want to keep the back plate for the USB, volt meter, etc. you could have turned the back plate 180 degrees so that the notch you cut out is at the top (back of the case) and the nice finished side is towards you. I think that would have looked better than having the notch you put in right next to another finished back plate.... and 2) I would try to get the antenna higher... and there's not much of a ground plane. Something to consider... and I didn't see any fuses... did the radio have an "in-line" fuse?

      UVAC Channel, thanks for you ideas. I've subsequently found a plate with four holes and have swapped it out. The gobox is meant to be for quick setups and used until other accessories can be hooked up to it. The antenna could be higher but the illustration was to represent the bare minimum. Ultimately I'd probably attach a folding J-pole and hang it from someone thing.

      Thanks for the suggestions. About a year ago I found four-hole mounting place that worked out fine. As for the antenna, the video was illustrating a down and dirty rapid deployment. That was the point I poorly got across. I do in deed use other choices of antennas.

    For us really new guys, is there a good source for the wiring process for this? I would feel better if I had some better understanding of how everything is wired together so that I dont fry my dual band radio. Any help or advice? Thanks

      Sure, but you don't have an email listed on your QRZ page. You can email me at kc6tyd@arrl.net.

      kc6tyd ....thanks for the offer. I did update my qrz with email listed in the bio. Since I had posted this I actually built a go box, as well as power distribution box for my shack. Fun stuff. Have some pictures on my qrz of the project also. 😁

    Why you gotta THROW everything? Can't you just set stuff down? The noise make for such a distraction to an otherwise fine video!

    • @kc6tyd
      @kc6tyd  5 лет назад +1

      Sorry Edward, maybe I get so excited. Turn down the volume and watch it again. As long as you get something out of the video then that's great. Keep in mind, I'm just an amateur at this. No where was there any indication that my videos were produced in such fashion that I was expecting to win any awards. An here's a plus, I don't believe there are any annoying adds before my videos. 73
