  • Sorry about the lousy video, nasty QRM from the wireless router.
It would be nice if I knew how to fade videos in and out it would be nice to splice and eliminate sections.
In my video • TGE N8XJK Boost Regulator
in the beginning of that video I wanted to show the swr and power output, some had questions about the antenna attached to the metal ammo box if it reduced power and increase swr. The answer is no it doesn't. I show in that video the swr power meter hooked up in between the antenna and metal ammo can. the swr is flat and the power out was 35 on uhf and a full 50 watts out in vhf mode. 50 watts is not recommended if you are seated that close, I just did it for the demo to show you that the can has no effect on swr or degradation in power.

Anyway, inside the Ammo Can is a Kenwood TM-V7A, homemade volt, amp, watt meter with 3 power pole 12 volt output (12-14vdc) and 1 aux. 12vdc input (12-14vdc).
You can attach a solar panel to the input and it will charge the battery, and a 6 terminal power strip located in the back by the battery, a Bioenno Power Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) Battery Model BLF-1212W.
All components fit nicely in a 50 cal. Ammo can, the Bioenno (LiFePO4) Battery at
    www.bioennopow...
Doesn’t go below 13.2 volts until it is almost drained, you get full power out of your radio.
I haven’t drained it yet, what I understand is you can get hours of communications before it is drained, it maintains 13.2 volts until the end. I saw this battery on Ham Nation.
As you see, this complete dual band radio is all self contained, now safety for you and anybody around you I suggest, don’t go over 10 watts.
The antenna maintains an SWR of 1.1 to 1.5 over all the frequencies, yes, it does put a full 51 watts out on VHF and 35 watts on UHF with no power loss, the antenna is a Diamond Mobile Antennas NR22L
Yea, I know, it was for a short time, but I just had to know.
So it is convenient, when your deployment only requires the use of a dual ban radio.

This radio can also be put in cross band repeat, hoist a simple J-Pole in a tree and use it as a repeater for those out there with HTs.
All components except the speaker are attached using Velcro, the speaker has a magnet on it, I can take it apart in less than a minute.
Remove the speaker and meter, unplug the power and remove the radio, take out the battery all done. Isn’t Velcro a nice addition in the shack?
I want to give a special thanks to, James Stewart, W4XDS, for the good audio report with a short QSO.
Sorry again about the video. I have to stay away from the Espresso.

Brilliant idea to use the Velcro. Should make it ultimately reconfigurable.

Great vid.but i have a couple questions.first i am assuming you are using the barrel connector on the battery to charge the battery.if so were did u get the connector from or how did u mount it if it is con ected to battery.u can charge the bionno battery from the power pole connection on tbe battery.i am gling to assune that your power loles mounted to tbe box is actually a powerpole splitter.hence one in and one out.id love to know were u got the antenna and the volt/ amp meter. Love the box man!!!!! KD2PKL JERSEY SHORE N.J.

i am assuming you are using the barrel connector on the battery to charge the battery.if so were did u get the connector from or how did u mount it if it is con ected to battery.
[I made a jumper to a chassis mount, I drilled a hole, installed a chassis mount power connector and ran a wire from there to a connector that plugged into the battery.
      ]
can charge the bionno battery from the power pole connection on tbe battery.
[No, the charging connector on the Bioenno battery goes through a circuit]
.i am gling to assune that your power loles mounted to tbe box is actually a powerpole splitte
[There is 4 power pole connectors, 3 output and one input, the one input is for external power. You must disconnect the Bioenno battery if you use external power. The Bionneo battery needs a 14.5 volt charger so I use the charger sold by Bioenno.
were u got the antenna and the volt/ amp meter.

I don't have a ham license yet, so I put a Cobra CB set in my own ammo can. The radio runs off of a small 12v Lead-Acid UPS battery. As a bonus (since I am an NBTV enthusiast) I put a very small 32 line mechanical NBTV televisor inside of it as well.

Nice Idea, CB is common with people on the road and Truckers, they off valuable information on road conditions and possibly towns they passed through.

I've been contemplating how I want to make one of these and with what components, thanks for the video. One thought is on the mounting. Do you feel the Velcro holds sufficiently? Not that I am going to throw it around. lol

The BRAND NAME VELCRO works GREAT, the Chinese Velcro doesn't meet my expectations.
Buy Velcro Made in the U.S.A., good stuff.

13 pounds is not heavy, in the box is the radio and the LiFePo4 Bioenno battery, the 12 volt SLA battery is 12 pounds, that's why I don't use the SLA batt when portable. when the radio and LiFePo4 battery, is 13 pounds
