Hi i am well aware of FCC limitations as a disclaimer. Are you aware if this base unit or any other base unit is unlockable to TX on vhf/uhf/gmrs in and emergency. I am aware of hand helds that are but I am searching for a base 50/watt radio with being a to be unlocked. I appreciate the response and if I am looking for a unicorn at least i know to stop looking and move on.
So, the power outlet will handle a 50 watt radio? I've been wondering because the computer is on top of the battery in my 13 equinox and I don't want to mess with that.
They should be connected strait to the battery I agree, but not enough loss to be bothered by it. I just wanted the convenience for the new vehicle. Quick install and removal. Thanks for the great comment my friend!!😃
Good info. In leiu of an actual cupholder mount I used a 3 inch test plug from the plumbing dept. at Lowes as a low profile mount for a TYT 779. Otherwise pretty much same as your video in a Nissan hatchback.
NEVER COIL A COAX. Any more than two coils becomes an attenuator. That is easily a 3dB loss. Every 3dB loss is about half of your power. That power will be sent back into the radio and will end up killing your final oscillator. Put the extra coax under the floor mats in an "s" type pattern.
You are right. I wasn't thinking that way, just doing a quick clean install. 😀Under the floor mats would be great! Thanks for the great comment my friend.
@@OtisDyson No problem. Thanks for putting out videos like this. It just might get people into ham radio. We need new licenses, or they will take our band width.
Oddly enough, this is a one of a kind video. Its amazing how so many people in a communication hobby have forgotten simple communication skills. You sir have nailed it and nailed a demonstration that new HAMs are looking for and can't find. I would love to see you do this on a truck as well!
Quick and easy for temporary or permanent😀 install.

I guess every vehicle may vary, but mine handles it well.
Love the drip loop idea Otis! Great idea I have filled a trunk with water down the coax ....not good.
It's a winner winner chicken dinner!!!😀
Can the cigarette lighter connector and the circuit handle up to 50w? I have read that radios should be directly connected to the car's battery.

Curious to know the size of screws you used to connect the bracket to the cup holder mount.

Yes sir! Be good my friend.@@jhutch1470
Do you have a reference for that? Just wondering because a common mode choke is often a coil of coax and that's beneficial.
Where did you get the parts for the cup holder mount
Nice beginning to end demonstration. I've never seen a cupholder mount that expands like that before! Thanks for the post.
Thanks my friend! Yeah they are great for permanent and on the go.
Are you able to get the full 50 watts with the cigarette plug in or what kind of wattage can you get?
Not quite, but not enough to be bothered by it. I just wanted the convenience for the new vehicle. Quick install and removal.😀
That radio will go flying out of that cup holder in an accident, be careful. Also that radio is not type FCC accepted for GMRS.
Yes it could. Make it tight!
Man, this was flawless. Great presentation

Super install, neat, set up.
Thanks!
"you hit the system!" 🙂
