Its got anit-weapon defenses...it later basically -melts- any long ranged weapon or anything with a battery. The neo-zeong is cheap AF
their guns exploded, remember?
It blew all ammo and have i-field that can negate all beam attack.
So melee is the only viable means of attack.
That and space magic of course.

That PoS got Waist-I-Field generator that render all beam attacks useless. So realistically retreating was the only viable other option.
