Private equity is destroying so many industries right now, including healthcare, retail, education, and beauty. Executives at these firms lack the necessary expertise in the businesses they acquire, and they don't care to learn because they are not interested in quality. Their sole focus is maximizing profits, often to the detriment of the employees and customers of the businesses they takeover. By slashing budgets to boost short-term gains, they leave a trail of destruction in their wake, with companies often in shambles when they’re sold off.
So surreal to see MYSELF on WUIM! Thank you so much for the shout out! I have also received my refund, so I'm very appreciative they are being proactive with the refunds. We will see what is to come in March 2025!
I was very happy to see that they changed the price to $99 dollars and refunded you Lauren and you Jen! I was very excited to see how the foundation device works and if it really works and puts out the best match for your foundation. I’m bummed that you both now have to wait until March 2025 and how long it will take for the both of you to receive your order. I’m still excited to see you both use it and share your experience! I’m very interested and intrigued by the device. I want to know so bad if it really does put out the perfect match for your foundation. But like Jen said we just have to wait and see. I hate waiting for things sometimes lol, I want to know if it’s bogus or if it’s a wonderful, innovated product. It seems to me that they are handling the situation well. It’s brand new and I’m glad they are choosing to make sure everything is going to work properly! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving if you celebrated and have enjoyed your weekend ❤
If you like the idea of a lipgloss ring and feel sad that the TooFaced one is trash, Anna Sui does one which looks really cool and is £15. Erin Parsons featured it in one of her shorts
I really admire and appreciate Marlena. That being said, I would never buy a perfume without smelling it first at a store. Years ago my favorite was being discontinued, so I started smelling the paper samples that come in ads like from ulta. When I found one I liked, I went to Macy's and tried the sample bottle. Walked around ( getting my steps in ) for about an hour. I was sold, and it's been my perfume for 4 years now. I wish companies that sell perfume like this would look d somehow send a sample.
I recently bought an “exploration kit” from a perfume house called commodity, you get to sample their perfume and a voucher for what you paid for the kit.. something like that would be a fantastic service!
It's always tricky because the same fragrance will smell a bit diffrent on each person. You also have to see how it develops to be sure that you like it. It will never snell the same on your skin and on paper.
ih ave bough perfumes without smelling, but i do hella research on places like reddit and fragrantica, compare notes and reviews to scents i already enjoy and own, and then order multiple sample size or travel sizes of all the ones i wanna try from discounters and grey market sites like fragrancex, and then if i like it ill buy a full size.
I was thinking the same thing, I really need to smell it before buying. I have read the notes, figured that I would like it and then upon actually smelling it I would absolutely hate it! There are certain scents that I adore but apparently I don’t like them mixed with any other scents 😅 Lemongrass, citrus and peach, as well as lilac and sweet peas are my favourites smells followed closely by green apple, apple cider, raspberry,“rain” and “grass” lol
I personally wouldn’t buy anything from Uoma Beauty now. Everytime a black owned company is taken over by investors who are non black, the quality & formulas decline and the price goes up. So many formerly brilliant black owned brands have been destroyed and they lose the original client base.
25:12 The Boldhue foundation-matching should have been a vending machine type of installation, in malls, airports, or participating stores like Sephora or Ulta. Having a little robot mix up 7 days worth of custom foundation would be a great novelty, better use of the color cartridges, and the machine could be regularly cleaned and serviced by a professional. Every way I think of it, making this a super-expensive direct-to-consumer product was a mistake.
Regarding Walmart and Uoma by Sharon C. Last fall, Walmart discontinued the line in store and put them on clearance for .03 cents (which is never done). Normally when Walmart dumps a makeup line, they either put in on normal clearance at about 50% off and it sells down in store until all stock is sold, OR the send the dead stock back to the cosmetic company. Uoma was a case I’d never seen before, where they marked them down to the “dispose” price point of .03 cents, basically turning the entire line to be thrown away instead of being sent back. They literally threw the whole line in the trash compactor. I’ve never seen Walmart distance themselves from a company so quick.
Wow! I would have loved to have grabbed that deal. My Walmart (in Canada) had just put out the line a few months prior to it being put on clearance. I had been looking for a great lip stain at the time, heard about the brand online and was delighted to finally see it locally. It did not disappoint! As soon as I saw it go on clearance almost immediately after, I grabbed the last one in my favourite colour and headed to the next store to get another but it was already sold out. The cashier said a lady came and bought them all 😂 Then I saw Jen talking about Uoma and knew something wasn’t going well over there and was happy I at least got 1 backup lip stain. Unfortunately, I still have yet to find another one that can withstand lunch recess. I have no clue why but after the 40 minutes playing outside with the kids none of my lip products remain lol Long lasting? 12hr? 24hr? Budge Proof?? Nope!! Not on me! I guess it’s all the yelling across the playground “keep your hands to yourself” “rocks stay on the ground” “I’m not asking you again” “outta the tree!”

Honestly, Jen, I'm not as optimistic about the foundation-matching machine as you. If they are willing to bring down the price from $295 to $99, it probably is because either it was severely overpriced to begin with or they're not as confident about performance as they were earlier. It seems to me that they sold a product without proper testing, then ran into trouble, and are now finding it very difficult to fix it. I might be completely wrong and I hope I am, though. For people with olive complexions like me, it could be a useful product. Looking forward to your product review in March, but not holding my breath! 😵💫
I totally agree. Why would a company, even a new company, place a product on the market for a certain price, and then before it even hits the market, reduce the price by such a vast amount? This is very sketchy in my opinion, and very much not thought through. If they took the proper time with this product BEFORE starting with widespread marketing, no one would have known about the $295,- to begin with. So this company did not earn my trust, to say the least.
what happened is after the ten year olds latched onto sephora, brands realized they could market to little children, pump out trash, and the kids will convince their parents to buy it for them.
Such a shame in Uoma Beauty. I really believed & completely engaged with Sharon. What she did with that Pull Up To Change campaign was amazing. She opened everybody’s eyes. And we discovered where brands truly stood on inclusivity. The majority of beauty brands revealed their true colours. Made it easier for people like me to know who i should support with my hard earned money. If you don’t care about me, then I certainly don’t care about you. I hope Sharon takes the time she needs and can come back but with a good support system around her so it’s not all on her shoulders. She’s already proven she has the skills but needs the resilience and support.
I've always hated juice beauty. When I worked at Ulta, the reps would always try to steal sales and undermine other vendors. Plus their products were ALWAYS getting returned.
I swear, I used to have a gel perfume that came in a ring just like that TooFaced thing when I was a little kid in the 70s. It's the same concept and really a bad idea for an adult cosmetic company.
Yay! You did a what's up. Something I can watch while I'm watching Excel spread sheets upload to close the month out that didn't happen Friday. Hoping for a Live too.
Everyone who purchased from Uoma Beauty during their "pause" should initiate a charge back. When I worked for an online retailer we couldn't legally charge the customer's card until we had shipped the product. I don't understand how they can offer store credit for money they should have never taken if this product is now out of stock because they had so many unfulfilled orders. Super shady. I have a concealer from Uoma that I absolutely love, but I don't think I'll be repurchasing if this is who is running the company now.
I saw that too! I feel so terrible for the customers who placed orders more than a year ago! It’s very disappointing how UOMA Beauty shut down their customer service center, their IG messages but most of all the customers will not receive a refund to their account for a product or products that they most likely don’t even want anymore. I feel angry that UOMA Beauty was still taking orders knowing that they were not sending out the products customers were purchasing. I don’t know how that’s legal? I personally haven’t purchased anything and I never will because of what they have done. Hope your having a wonderful day ❤
Offering store credit to remedy not giving people products for months is so backwards. Store credit for a store that already won’t deliver on their orders? My first thought with the TF ring was it reminds me of the children makeup sets, aside from it being more expensive than a set
Ordered the discovery set!! They actually allowed the BF code on the discovery set... which is awesome! The sample set came out to 28 with shipping (to Florida) for those wondering.
Jen, another wonderful, informative episode!! You’re just amazing at every single episode, deep dives, reviews, interviews, a wealth of knowledge and you’re also funny! I agree with so many of the comments in the comment section so I won’t be repetitive. I agree with the majority of everyone. The UOMA Beauty section of the video was so spot on and exactly how I feel. I would be so angry and disappointed if I had placed an order. Not refunding their customers money after more than a year and still accepting orders the entire time is unacceptable! I don’t know how that is a legal? I feel terrible for every single person who placed an order. Thank you for your thoughts and opinions on the PR/Purchased segment. I’m very happy for Marlena ❤️
It seems like we keep getting a high volume of new brands taking money and not delivering, then banking on “extending” the time it takes to deliver, while then also suddenly never delivering. There needs to be new laws in place to prevent this. Because it’s start up brands stealing money from people and then lying their way through the situation to never delivering.
They gave you $200 back? Sounds to me like a loan without interest, and that's a best case scenario imho. Companies don't just casually offer $200 back.
Yeah, Jen is optimistic but I'm HIGHLY skeptical. I mean, I was skeptical of the initial premise, but to then offer 2/3 of the money back... Something fishy's going on.
It’s just sad because I knew that once Sharon stepped down, the brand was going to have problems. It was because of how much she really was the backbone of the company. I just didn’t know how big it would be. Selling a company behind the founders back without them knowing is crazy. I think that Sharon didn’t in a million years know that this would happen to her. I think that she thought they would hold on till she came back from her break.
It breaks my heart that people can build a company then mere investors can come in and impose so much on those people that they want to leave the brand they built. Yes, I understand investors have put money in, but if they don’t believe in the vision or the person to that degree, don’t invest!
I love that Marlena incorporated the geometric design of makeup geek in the perfume cap. A beautiful tribute to a closed chapter. Can't wait to try her perfume line!
Something similar to uoma is happening with chaotic cosmetics. Me along with many others have been waiting for a face highlighter product/bundle. We have not seen PR, no one has received any update emails, there's no contact with anyone from their social media and customer service email, unless you're saying "stay strong, we love you". Their website was down so i found the ceo to the brand. I fb messaged him "hey, let EVERYONE know what is really going on." And i was blocked. I can't go through the bank because the time limit passed. I'm still emailing them and i reached out to the BBB
A lot of people have been mentioning that they wouldn't expect this nonsense from an Ulta brand - I don't believe Uoma is being sold at Ulta anymore but why wouldn't they expect this? Had no idea that an investment firm took over the company, but the way the brand has disappeared over the past year is kind of expected. When a company is owned by people who have NO idea what they're doing, that view the brand as a financial investment and not a passion project, this is exactly what happens. They think of it as a "get rich quick" scheme or they hope to destroy the brand so they have a reason to "redo" it, replace it with lesser quality products and pocket the difference. The latter is what I think is happening.
Hey 350K subs on the way! Also Jen if you ever did a video about OG makeup brands that successfully and unsuccessfully transferred from the beauty counter/retail brick & mortar era into the social media/online shopping era. When I consider this topic, I think of brands that had brand/name recognition like Mac and Inglot(I wish more people would talk about it) as opposed to newer girlies like Fenty, Glossier, ColourPop etc.
They call August, 2023 to November, 2024, a pause? Then they turn off the comments? Uoma Beauty isn’t gonna win back any customers by doing that. It’s a little late to ship stuff now. Hopefully most people contested the sale and got their money back. U can’t continue selling while having no customer service at all.
After waiting for months for a product I PAID FOR, I would NOT take a store credit or an "alternate" product! I wouldn't even want the original product shipped! All I would want is my money back. That's the price YOU pay for running a business poorly.
26:12 This lip gloss ring from Too Faced looks so much like one of those Ring Pops we used to get from Walmart, or a convenience store! Absolutely ridiculous!
I bought an Uoma eyeshadow palette at Ross ages ago, it is gorgeous but I wasn’t enticed enough by what was available on their site to purchase from them and I am thrilled by that now!
I feel this so much. I think like earlier in the year I saw Ulta still had their powders and were on sale so I like ._. Bought so many because I have still not found a replacement powder that looks as good on my face as theirs did. I was so heartbroken. Still on the search. Haven't found one yet.
too faced is targeting those sephora kids who buy drunk elephant lmao it's also mimicking the fwee pudding pot which is a majorly trending kbeauty lip product that comes with a keychain to put the product in
Hey Jen, can you do a video on Looxi and Shroud doing the same thing Uoma Beauty did? I believe Shroud did send some orders out, but hasn't said a word, they actually still have their website up. Looxi took money, shipped nothing, and shut down their website and email. Both brands still have their IG up though. Looxi really took me by surprise, I have over 50 of their singles, Shroud, I have a few palettes!!
I did a piece on Looxi when that went down. I know I talked about Shroud doing some shady stuff at some point, but I can’t remember. Maybe something to do with Betty Jean? (Edit : I did do pieces on both. If you search my name and those brand names you should find it.)
I hope the foundation matching machine works out for you, but I'm not optimistic. I've been color matched by machine at Estee Lauder, and the color just wasn't right--way too yellow. Had to go back and work with a live rep who pulled out the right color for me. Human eye is better than machine. That's the problem they're having, INHO.
I would love to get all Marlena fragrance however, since Covid my husband is very sensitive and I have to get him to smell it first before I buy pr wear them .. for him I can only wear prada candy .. I had Tom ford and so many other big bottles I had to give away as almost sent it hospital .. I miss those sense ❤
After this long people probably pretty much gave up on getting their products or money back whatsoever, so imo id be somewhat pleased to just get anything at all. I wouldn't be happy but not nearly as pissed. What a shady situation.
Hi! The UOMA Beauty disaster…is just vile! Comments ain’t shut off now - yay! I just commented. Not to spread hate, but rather I feel they really need as much feedback as possible as that is the last resort for any chance of change…which I don’t see happening.😢 Thank you as always for bringing us the info from research you do!!! ❤ Oh…and I think the post has been edited like cray cray because the one I responded to does not promise anything to anyone and essentially says “we made some mistakes, our bad, your loss” 🤢 PPS - omg, I believe they copy and pasted a bunch from the direct message to you as the main message. 🤮

Didn’t get a notification for the most recent interview segment either I just realised. Anyway, just in case your metrics are off in any way Jen, RUclips seems to be having a moment.
4:06 honestly i love the idea that she wanted to widen in both directions! Usually i dont say anything because i know its a very different story for me than it is black people, but I'm so pale that its hard for me to find colors that actually match me (i also have no idea if im cool or warm toned but thats a me issue lmao) but i just bite my tongue and use the closest thing because i know that theres such a big difference between me kinda looking like im doing a trump cosplay vs a black woman's ""closest"" color being even too light to be a good highlighter!
The products juice beauty is telling to ditch all have endochrinian disruptors. so theyre not wrong about telling people they can make better choices if youre trying to avoid endochrinien disruptors or carcinogenic composent. I just looked them up on the app Yuka and most of Juice Beauty products have an ''excellent'' score in terms of being free of toxic stuff (endochrinien disruptors, carcinogenic thigs, allergens and polluant) - WHICH is sadly super rare...
@@jenluv I dotn like the way that brand does things but i dont think we should demonize clean beauty at all cost when many brands are doing the right things by getting rid of long term toxic chemicals in our products and food. and yes, of course not all chemicals are toxic to humans, but some have prooven to be or are potentially toxic not yet prooven. Not all substances they claim to be bad are, but some are, and are supported by studies. Again, like you said, companies canbe hiding and lying on things, doesnt mean they lie on everything though, and thats why i agree with you when youre saying i should look into scientifical proofs. Of course, and i would add look into diffrent studies, and also how they were made and funded. im not pretending to know whats best, and if the word ''clean beauty'' is always well used. im just trying to get more knowledge and make healthier choices.
Hope your having a wonderful day ❤
Please be aware they have been horrible speaking about people with disabilities on their podcast 😢
Im glad i ordered OUMA before the owner left. The Maya lipstick is going to be hard to replace. I love love love her lipsticks
My toddler would love the two faced ring hopefully at dollar tree next year
Offering store credit to remedy not giving people products for months is so backwards.
How old is this makeup they are sending? I doubt it is new and fresh.
I love that Marlena incorporated the geometric design of makeup geek in the perfume cap. A beautiful tribute to a closed chapter. Can't wait to try her perfume line!
Her perfumer designed it!
Uoma beauty owes Johnny Ross for 9,000.00 for some work.
I was about to make this comment
I feel like there's a lot of overlap between your two channels. You should collaborate! He's said some nice things about this broadcast.
Just saw that they do still sell on Ulta, that's wild!
I think uoma left my Ulta store like a year ago? It could be sold online but I like shade matching in person
I really hope we find out more about what’s been going on at Uoma behind the scenes bc I just want to know how something like this even happens.
Just saying….That Uoma foundation and concealer was awesome. Hate to see all of this go down.
Happy Holidays to you and your family, Jen! I appreciate you!
Jen, I too, am not a Grandma Floral person!! Gourmand all day err day 🙌🏻🙌🏻💗 p.s. love love LOVE Marlena 🥰
I love the colors of this sweater with you and it looks so cozy ❤❤❤
I just saw that ring.... first I thought it was a joke... then I saw the price!!!! It looks like a price you get at the bubble gum dispensers!!!
The perfumes look and sound amazing! I’d love to try them but need a sample or travel size first. A little feedback to pass along….
26:12 This lip gloss ring from Too Faced looks so much like one of those Ring Pops we used to get from Walmart, or a convenience store! Absolutely ridiculous!
Im still using UOMA eyebrow product and love it. I like the mascara too. The skincare sucked though. Hope they make my brow product avail again.
I bought an Uoma eyeshadow palette at Ross ages ago, it is gorgeous but I wasn’t enticed enough by what was available on their site to purchase from them and I am thrilled by that now!
Wow! That ring looks like what comes on a cupcake.
If I can't get the Uoma powders anymore, I'm scorching the earth.
I feel this so much. I think like earlier in the year I saw Ulta still had their powders and were on sale so I like ._. Bought so many because I have still not found a replacement powder that looks as good on my face as theirs did. I was so heartbroken. Still on the search. Haven't found one yet.
😂😂😂That Two faced lip gloss ring!!! LOL
No disrespect to Marlena, but I don’t understand paying $100 for a fragrance you need to layer with another $100 fragrance.
too faced is targeting those sephora kids who buy drunk elephant lmao it's also mimicking the fwee pudding pot which is a majorly trending kbeauty lip product that comes with a keychain to put the product in
the kids won't be able to tell the product sucks haha too faced just hopes they'll want to show off the ring at school and such
If the products are being shipped, how old are the products being shipped? Have they been sitting on shelves this 1.5 years?
It’s sad about uoma beauty, they have good beauty products. Sad that another black owned brand is gone
I bought the Marste trial set then instantly went back and bought the essence mandarine. It’s so different from anything I own!
27:28 for that price you should be getting a nice cute ring with a refillable gloss. Okay go 35 and make it a really nice costume ring lol
The Too Faced ring reminds me of Claire’s
I like how Karen was all “ juice who? Never heard of her” 😂😂😂
Any news on Halo changing ingredients? My nails don't seem to be doing as well as they were! Used it since the start.
I ordered the Discovery Set and can’t wait to try them!!
This is very exciting il definitely purchase the sample set first to find my favourite as I have over 200 fragrances.
Oooooh, your hair looks great like that 😍
Uoma beauty without SC is no longer Uoma beauty.
Good morning Jen I hope you’re having an amazing and blessed day. Period
They should have waited to take orders for the device, when they were ready to ship. Price was really too high.😢 Glad they lowered the price.
I will receive this week the sample of Marlena.
Oh…and I think the post has been edited like cray cray because the one I responded to does not promise anything to anyone and essentially says “we made some mistakes, our bad, your loss” 🤢
PPS - omg, I believe they copy and pasted a bunch from the direct message to you as the main message. 🤮
27:20
Looks like it came from a bubble gum machine.
It's gonna take more than a mini gift to convince me to shop with them again after a whole year of not getting my items.
UOMA is not gonna last.
Did you file a claim with your bank ?
Thanks Jen!
I…did not get a notification for this. I had to go on your page and go hunting after I heard on the live that there was a „What’s up in Makeup?“…and yes, I do have „all notifications“ on. Didn’t get a notification for the most recent interview segment either I just realised.
Anyway, just in case your metrics are off in any way Jen, RUclips seems to be having a moment.
I am eagerly awaiting my HoM Discovery set!
We missed you!!!!
Why would i want to pay that much to layer though 😭😭 and not know the scents.
I don’t see Marlena link down below !!
houseofmarste.com :)
as my grandma always says, pinch and a punch for the first of the month!
I love your lipstick here! what is it???
I would have bought a BoldHue if they has shipped internationally. Great idea, even better price now!
Kinda want to see Jen with a short curly bob! Would be so cute 😂
My La Roche Pose will have to be dragged from my cold dead hands….its wonderful and lies so nice under makeup
I can't get behind Marlena's price for those essences. I dont even spend that much on my YSL perfume!
Maybe Marlena explained this, I don't watch her content so I wouldn't know but... Marsté? That seems..... very..... Estée Lauder lol
It reminds me of how my Nana used to call Target "House of Targé". The fragrances sound pretty, but the name is giving fake posh.
happpppppy thanksgiving
🍿- I think Rent will always have a special place in my heart. I’m gonna go watch it now…
Ring Pops!!!
I want to know what the shelf life for these items are. Once people get their items will they have 2 whole weeks to use them up? 🤦🏻♀️🤣
They are lying to you. Check the actual science.
Here an interesting video about toxic additives from The Diary Of a CEA : No.1 Toxicologist: These Products Were Making Me Infertile And Are Harming Your Future Kids!
I just love Marlena and refuse to get rid of my Makeup Geek shadows.
There is a RUclipsr that has the Bold Hue. Her name is Emily Harper. She posted it 3 weeks ago. Wonder how she got it?
I’m so sad about Uoma by Sharon C. I found it too late, and fell completely in love with the one tube I have of their “It’s complicated” lip stain in classy. I’ve been trying to find a dupe for it for the last number of months. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!!!! It’s my favorite lip product ever, and my perfect red. 😢
Oh my goodness 😳 Too faced should be ASHAMED of themselves!! Trying to con people into thinking that the kids' makeup would impress ANYBODY makes me laugh maniacally...🤦🏼♀️🤣
Oh man.... that ring is embarrassing 😂
