It really annoys me how he said "speed doesnt matter" then proceeds to show his 900mbps download speed when I only get 1 mbps.
At least you get 1 mb
lol I think he is referring me for online gameplay. Cause for online gameplay you can actually get good gameplay on 3mbps as long as you have really good ping. You can have high download speeds but a high ping will still cause lag due to packet loss in the receiving of data
Ur lucky I pay for 10mbps and get 376kbps

you get 1 mbps, i get 200 kbps at best

I have an Airtel connection that still runs copper wire connection but it's so perfect and untouched that it gives me a ping of 4ms constantly while surfing web. While playing PUBG the ping increases to around 30ms.

I'd agree if I didn't live in California and my ms ranged from 13 to 1200 on the flip of a hat and my Mbps is 2. Sigh, I guess this is what i get for living in one of most dense states and having a ISP that's too greedy to not throttle my wifi.

Good video, great technical advice and solutions. Question: Have you tried the XR500 and the Asus ROG ax 11000? What’s your comparison? I’ve had the XR for the past year on a non-fiber connection. It did ok but now moving to a fiber location and ordered the asus.
How did it work out?

Hey john thanks for the tutorial .....it was really worked
The thing is that there are exchange points, or hubs that are usually in major cities where companies like Netflix keep servers, Netflix literally has a red server box with their entire library of movies and tv shows in each major exchange point in the US, this gives people in the area an extremely good connection to their products. A lot of companies like Google, Amazon, etc. do exactly the same thing, obviously its not all of the services they offer, usually just the major/smaller things but they will link from there to their main server farms using incredibly fast multiplexed fiber, so if you live near a metropolitan area you should figure out where the exchange point is and find a server you can ping in the facility, that’s usually where ISPs link to anyways. The main thing though is to try and get a fiber connection to your house, most ISPs are moving toward that and i know AT&T is switching people to fiber for free if the area has it, i did it and it made my latency go from 55ms on average to an average of 3ms in peak hours and 1ms during non peak hours.

Nice name dude i love it
I lived out in the boonies. (Nothing but farms) and I had really really low ping. I've since moved to the city and now my ping is high or rather considerably worse than what it used to be.
You have more people using that hub. Or might be bad side of town where they don't upgrade hardware as often.
Also could be the connection at your pole, or pedestal. Do line test on the site he said.
Thank you so much Glasscock.
nice to see someone who actually knows what hes talking about thnx youve answered every question i had today =)
I’m coming back to this video after months cause I was interested in the subject and I’m just now realizing that the speed test did tell us something. I live in Philly but when I took a trip to nj I noticed that the ping was lower and I was closer to the server. Idk if it’s possible to switch servers but if I could find one closer to where I live I might be able to reduce ping
So I tried to say the Cloudfare DNS and Google DNS, but youtube auto-deleted my comments. Those two are the generally recommended public DNS servers to reduce ping and maximise bandwidth.
I was sold at the very first 10 seconds when he said Glasscock
Thanks so much, when I play any game goes like 130 ms, now its just 70-100
simple and precise, lot more easier to understand when this guy talk about anything
Great video.
So for me basically if I want a better Ping for gaming i will have to move to the closer State and city where the Servers are.

Thank you John, John Glasscock!
thanks for this banger video John Glasscock
1. Type of connection (dsl/cable/fiber)
2. Quality of connection
(jitter/packetloss)
3. Distance from isp/server connected to (closer = faster ping)
4. Bufferbloat (lag caused by your router)
5. Ethernet > Wired
Other things that could help speed are dns servers (only the initial request, page loading on ur pc for example), QoS or other softwares on router which can stop buffer-bloat (router lag), but most importantly your type of connection will have the biggest impact on latency. DSL uses copper wiring in phone lines. The signal degrades over distance meaning slower speeds and higher latency at a longer distance (terrible for competitive gaming), cable (which adds supposedly no delay through the cable) can also incorporate fiber into their networks (degraded signal from high number of neighbors using cable.) Finally there’s fiber optics, which is something like 69-98% speed of light depending on the network.
Fun fact: Fiber optics was discovered and reversed engineered from a UFO. We jumped from speeds in the low hundreds of Mbps to 1 Gbps.
Beamxr alien spacecraft 😂
Ethernet > wired?????? Are you drunk? That's the same thing...
Jose Cervantes probably meant wireless.
issaciams I hope so.
I'm coming back to read comments, and I just wanted to say I love your comment. Good info and I did not know about the Fiber Optic UFO lol. If that's true, then that is awesome
John: Gets over 800MPHS

yeah becuz Mbps and Mb/s is different
I have payed for 500mbps but I get 10-20 Mbps in my pc my life is rigged
@@ezioboiz-ieatchildren- bro Mbps = mega byte per second
And mb/s also means mega byte per second it's just like km/s or kmph
@@TheSlowmanTank actually mbps is mega BITS per second, not mega bytes, one byte is 8 bits
so to get the mb/s out of the mbps you divide it by 8
its 2 am and you are making a video great
Thank you mr. Glasscock!
So my Ping is 21 and download speed is 29.1, but when I'm playing a specific game, my ping goes in between 70 to almost 300 ping and that's really buggy and slow, I don't know if its just me or if its the video game I'm playing that causing it 🤷🏻

Hello John,
I m in India and want my home broadband to work fast enough for online videos streaming and watching TV online. My broadband speed is 16mbps but it seems very slow in speed as like 8-9mbps, so what settings to do to catch 16mbps in actual ?
Thank you.
mine is 14mbps urs is probably actually nice
I have that gaming nighthawk router and it works great
Huh,after 20 min I finished to watch this video :)
The lowest ping I could get to various DNS servers is 4ms on 900mbit fiber. My real problem is loading webpages/connecting to teamspeak servers takes 3-10 seconds which is considerably longer than the old 70mbit cable internet I had at my old home. It's especially annoying when scrubbing through RUclips videos takes 3-5 seconds to start playing. I've tried changing DNS, turning off antivirus/firewalls and changing browser. I have a Ryzen 3600 with 3600mhz ram and an NVMe drive so it's not a slow computer either.
That is a particularly interesting problem, did you ever solve it?
Try playing games that require precision with a constant 150 to 250 ping...
It's pretty frustrating in multiplayer
Valorant 😢

Where do you live and who is your isp? I watched your cod ww2 gameplays (which is great btw) and your bullet registration is godly. I live in the country so I’m stuck with 10 down 1 up with 30 to 60 pings. But I make it work. 30 v2s in ww2 and over 300 in Infinite Warfare.
John Glasscock thanks for the reply. Keep it up man.
Sounds like you have dsl. Ur not getting a 1 digit ping unless u have fiber optics (latency is like 70% speed of light) or u move right next to ur isp

I have tried almost everything and have gotten "professional help" and they have concluded that the issue probably has something to do with my motherboard.
True fiber (FTTH) is the only solution for sub 5ms RTT ping. You might as well tell your fan base that no matter how much money they spend on ridiculous peripherals & traffic shaping tools there's no better solution than a fiber ISP. Good luck!

Doesn't matter what your speed test says on your computer. With a hotspot connection my laptop says ping is 62 but if I play Rainbow my ping is 115. Also depends on the distance from the game server as well. On the contrary I had AT&T DSL with a ping of 32 but in game it changes. Depends on the type of matchmaking for the game as well. My cousin has cable with a ping of 13 but in game it's anywhere from 40-50. Also note to mention 0-99 ping is a good connection through a line and because of lag compensation your shots will register the same as any other player with 0-99. The problem is when your ping isn't stable.
