Hey nathan, i also live in perth and have just bought a 1997 supercustom :) happy to see this video because i need to take mine in for a good service, and this Dave guy looks great! Couldn't have come at a better time
Congratulations! What year is your van? Lehman are great. Dave actually took one look under the van and began pointing out compatible parts with locally sold vehicles so your in good hands 👌
That's awesome. Mine is a '97 supercustom, without the G Have taken the seats out of it and am getting it ready for adventuring, hopefully going to get dave to give it a good inspection
Great video! Looks like you got a great mechanic, and a very clean Super Custom! Might be worth doing a bit of a google on Auto transmission flushes. It's very debated for older cars. Thanks for the excellent video!
Thank you! I do maintenance work myself but Dave is a professional and would give viewers a much better experience. Ive always done ATF changes in all my cars never had an issue, most was 545,000kms lapped Australia twice. It's mostly human error (wrong fluid/ running new fluid but a 18y/o filter etc). This van has near new fluid and filter in the tranny, just got hot from not having the lockup work for two months or so.
@@nathansharma87 Yeah nice. Yeah, that's fair. And I think doing ATF changes are good, but apparently FLUSHES are a bit more debated. From what I've read, I would probs avoid a full flush and just do partial changes until the fluid is clean.
@@nathansharma87 ahh yeah I saw that. Expensive? I've been spending a lot of my van , rust , engine (head replacement)etc to keep it road worthy but you will hate me I did remove the rear seats and started a conversion. Had to get it re certified / registered as a 2 seater commercial van as per regulation. I thought of you as did it! So sorry!!!
Hey that's cool with me. Whatever you do to get the most out of it, so long as you enjoy it. Keep the seats and interior though incase you ever want to go back. They aren't getting easier to come by. Sway bar bushes were under $200 installed.
Hi, I have a super custom also but it’s diesel, the recommended oil is 10w30 can anyone tell me if I can use the regular gasoline oil for the oil change? Or any recommendations? First oil change and fits diesel ride. Thanks
Hi mate No do not use petrol engine oil in a diesel even if it says it's diesel compatible. Petrol or gasoline engine oil does not have the very high concentration of cleaning and dispersant additive packages that diesels need to stay in spec during the oil change interval. Only use diesel specific engine oil. I highly recommend full synthetic. Don't listen to any idiot on Facebook who says otherwise, we've been running synthetic diesel oil in old cars for years in Australia and New Zealand. It's incredibly better than mineral. If you live somewhere like Canada or where it gets below freezing, use 10W30 in winter. For all other climates and times even in winter use 0W40 - 10W40. If you live somewhere very hot, 10W50 or 15W50. Change the fuel filter every two years, clean the air filter every year, change it every two years. Make sure the trans fluid is good. If changing the fluid do the trans filter too. Use good red coolant. Toyota OEM is great. If it's got green might be worth flushing out to Toyota red. It's about the best in the world. Buy a bottle of diesel fuel conditioner and cleaner and use a cap full in every tank of fuel. Your injectors and injection pump will last forever. Do those simple things and enjoy your ride.
@@nathansharma87 wow great information, thanks for all that great advice and recommendations, will sure be doing all of the and saving you mr info on my notes. 👍
Unfortunately no. I'd recommend shortlisting any private shop that specialises in 4WDs whose been around for 20 years or so as they'd be familiar with all the hardware. The newer AutoMasters etc are more used to 2004+ models and the technicians haven't really worked on 90s cars.
My sincerest apologies for the incredible offense you have experienced. I was new to making RUclips videos as well as editing and I had made this to help others with this type of vehicle. I have taken your feedback onboard and will endeavour to advise our management team to consider those susceptible to finding sound effects obnoxious when crafting new videos.
VOice over is fine, didn't even notice. Super cool to get a detailed explanation of the undercarriage, this is rare knowledge being shared!

@@nathansharma87hello, do you know what oil to use to transmission, transfer case and diff?
@matejrob3913 ruclips.net/video/bygJTsAPTDI/видео.html
I believe the auto trans was Dexron 3.
I used a semi synthetic.
Awesome but your sound affects are way too loud
Do you know anyone in NSW who knows super customs good for service?

Van not a "car".
That obnoxious gunshot was enough to make me stop watching your video like why the f was it so loud
