This is a no brainer. Certainly slate is preferable. I think a better topic for a video is if you have compromised finances or space, such that a pool table might have to be moved, and you are not a pro--in other words, you're just a regular guy who likes to relax with his friends or family and play pool--can you still gain satisfaction from playing on one made from MDF? And the answer is yes. They CAN warp, but if you take care of them and don't expose them to extreme fluctuations of humidity and temperature, they won't warp. I have a bumper pool table from the '70s--one of the junkiest one's made sold by Sears--that spent 20 years in my garage in Philly, and the MDF is virtually unaffected.
I want a MDF Table just for at home to play around with friends and family and I'll go to the pub or bowling alley to play on a Slate Table lol A MDF Table for the house with a ball return system just to bowl the balls into the pockets by hand like I'm playing bowling 😂
What about pool tables with marble instead of slate? And what about using a higher quality cloth on a cheaper slab? I'm looking at buying a cheap snooker table using an HDF frame and marble slabs.
Hi there, The best MDF table we have is The Deluxe Foldaway Folding Leg Pool Table www.libertygames.co.uk/store/pool_tables/mdf_bed_home_pool_tables/deluxe-foldaway/ More information available on our website. Thanks for your question :)
My thinking is that anything flat covered with the same cloth is going to play the same...you said that pockets/rails are different on an mdf table so if the mdf table makers just make everything identical apart from the bed then you wouldn't be able to tell the difference
I play in a league and want to get better. No aspiration to ever go pro. I’m thinking a MDF table could help with my aim and stroke. Maybe not so much with banks, kicks or speed control, because of the difference with the bumpers and felt. Is this right? Which one would you suggest for someone like me? Thank you.
I want to build my own pool table and consider using MDF for the play table. My home improvement center has either "raw MDF" or "laminated" (melamine). I think the latter could be a good choice in case some one spill a drink over. Any thoughts?
@@jalee6587 You don't seem to get it. People want MDF so they can move the table around. Not everyone has endless amounts of space in their homes. And not everyone wants or needs to be a pro. Did it ever occur to you that if MDF tables were so bad, how come this company offers so many and they sell so well? If they were all such crap, word would get around and nobody would buy them.
Hi there, unfortunately you can't. The construction of an MDF bed pool table differs from that of a slate bed table, and the stone slate would be too heavy for the MDF table to support. Hope that helps, thanks for your question!
@@MInd724070 There is no such thing in existence as an ''mdf'' full sized snooker table. it would indeed, as you say, be ''garbage'' - none would ever sell
MDF will only swell if it soaks up water from a large spill especially on the edges. Otherwise it will not swell with changes in humidity or temperature in the room. You can also purchase moisture resistant mdf which is used in bathrooms etc. I'm a carpenter / joiner by trade.
@@pgale Slate is a stone, so it's dimensionally stable. It will be the same a million years from now. MDF is made from wood which is dimensionally less stable--is more affected by temperature and humidity changes. I saw a really cheap table (used) on offer up. Since these are prone to warping. Is it possible to buy that one. And replace the plywood/mdf with slate later on once it's warped?
Wow amazing review. Not a single word about mdf or slate. A lot of talk about the rails and the felt, which have absolutely nothing to do with the table being mdf or slate. Smh
You talked about cloth, cushions, pockets, everything except MDF vs slate.

marble is too brittle
If you take pool seriously you won't be happy with anything other than slate
Can you put a link to the absolute best MDF table that is available please

So to sum it up if you wanna play pool and drink with buddies get mdf if you wanna be great and go pro get slate

@@Cristobal_2012 for sure, with regards to longevity, slate is ideal; i was just thinking about how it feels to play on initially

I'm doing the same mate all my research says your right with your comments. Moving it is a big plus also.

Neither. Just find a older used slate table that your budget can handle.
Use the laminated, its water resistent and youll get good ball action

When you have mdf and it warped. Can you replace it with stone slate?

So informative. Thanks. I want a 6 by 12 feet snooker table, light in weight because I gonna put it on first floor. Please guide.
You don't want to buy a huge 6 by 12 feet piece of garbage MDF.

Do you recommend putting good felt on a cheap table?
Hi, on a slate bed? It may not be needed to have an expensive cloth as many of the cheaper cloths perform very well
Any recommendations?
Mdf swells because well it’s particle board. Which means warping . Slate is the only way to go

The table at the start, how big the that table?
Hi there, the size of the table at the beginning of the video is 6ft - hope that helps :)
That red pool table is beautiful. Can you leave a link to where to buy it. I want that exact one.

Can you get snooker colour balls so you can play micro snooker also?
Where can I buy/find the MDF bed???
Hi, our range of MDF tables can be found here - www.libertygames.co.uk/store/pool_tables/mdf_bed_home_pool_tables/
Is mdf like particle board?
Yes it's high density particle board. Mdf cannot compare to real slate. Mdf is for kids pool tables. Slate is for serious players.
Mdf is for kids ,slate is the only way to go for serious players.
You keep saying that but what is the difference ? how is it better ? apart from build quality and it will last so much longer.

Buy a used slate table instead. I'm not sure where you can buy slates for a pool table without a table itself.
You can buy a real car or a toy car for your kids to play with. Same with pool tables, you can buy a real table or MDF one.
Did someone say table
