There is HUGE difference on how pocket corners are cut.
On American pool table there is larger margin for error allowed when playing ball along the rail.
On British pool table the ball played along the rail has way much more tendency to not go in.
It is very similar how Chinese pool table are built. Chinese pool table is standard tournament 9ft, played with American pool balls, however, the pocket rails are cut like on British pool tables.
It means, the pool player on Chinese pool table has to be much more precise, as the pockets are not forgiving anything.

There’s a big misconception of what people think when comparing them. The fact is that EU tables smaller in size compared to American when comparing say a 6’ to 9’ the balls are running 50% longer on average. On a 7’ to 9’ the balls are running 29% longer on average. Hitting a ball in from one corner to the other is a hell of a lot longer on a 9’ compared to 6’ or 7’. Imagine a corner to corner on a 12’ snooker table. The other difference is ball size as you say as American balls are 12.5% bigger in essence making the pockets tougher due to ball size. Then the difference in pockets & the corners rounded EU or sharp corner American type & then also the shelf depth difference between the two & the difference in shelf depth between the brands of tables. Then last but not least American pocket size tip to tip can range from wide to small or shimmed down even smaller.
The World Pool is using 9’ tables with American style corner pockets shimmed down to 4”. That is tight with the larger American balls. Cheers

After playing both for years, American style tables are far more forgiving and are easier to pockets balls on. Speed control is much more important to consistently pocket balls on English style.

I went to a snooker centre today and for the first time played American pool and found it much easier to play!
I thought I was just playing out of my mind but after watching this video and understanding the differences it has made me come back to earth.

      Was it a "proper" american pool table (4.5ft x 9ft) or a "barbox" (3.5ft x 7ft)?
      Big difference.

@@michaelwoods9005 any American table is easier to pocket balls on. Pocket size is 15-20% larger and ball size is only 12.5% larger. Plus bigger balls require less finesse and utilise more momentum which also makes American tables easier to pocket balls.

Coin-Op tables found in bars here in America are all 39” x 78”… commonly referred to as “Bar Boxes” (3.5ft x 7ft).

I find th english tables more easier then the american tables, plus the american game is more fun with different games, nine ball is a massive game around the world!! English pool is not, snooker yes pool no!! I remember the first time i walk into a snooker center in my area with a mate and he said we were playing english pool i couldn't stop laughing as it felt as if i was playing on the little kids tables!! and after a few game's it got boring with just red and yellow playing 8 ball!! but lets face it, Americans well favor their game and english will favor their game, it's just what we grew up with! besides if we pool players wanted a challenge we would be playing snooker!!

It's simple, American pool is a toy version of pool.

That's funny, I was gonna say the same thing about British pool. Your tables are ridiculously small.

@@infidel1993That makes it more difficult less space means less room to manoeuvre the white. Also because it's a smaller table a lot of the balls block each other. Also I find the pockets on American pool tables a lot more forgiving then the pockets on English pool tables. I think English pool table pockets are alot more tighter then American pool table pockets.
