I arrived here by accident and stayed - Thank you : ) Feathers are brittle and break too when they are dry. A tip - hold them over some steam to soften them and they'll be less likely to break and its easier to curl them. Try it on the 'funny' one and see the result!
I was needing to groom two large feathers and one was no responding to the upward smoothing and still looked pretty ragged. I used my tea kettle, and exposed the feathers to steam as I groomed... stream... then groom... steam, then groom. The feathers came together nicely and look great.
usually they are salvaged from poltry such as roosters, larger birds are not plucked clean these feathers have dropped from birds in aviaries, and so on ui do not think people kill birds for the feathers, and then there are the imitation feathers
very informative ways to work on changing the shape. thanks for posting this.
Thanks! Great tutorial. Can't wait to start working with some funky feathers!
Great tutorial - I never knew how easy it was to curl them! Definitely using that trick on my next project. :)
So helpful! I've been looking for something like this for a while. Thank you!

I enjoyed the tutorial, but the sound was so low, even though the micro was on maximum, that the speech was barely perceptible.
Bad practice! feathers should stay in the wild.
