Woodturning - Small Plum Bowl

- I was able to make a small bowl out of a piece of plum wood. Plum wood cracks very easily during drying, so I did my best to make the drying process as stable as possible.
First I turned bowls with a wall thickness of just over 10% of the diameter. Then I painted the entire bowl with water-diluted white wood glue. When the glue was dry I let the bowl dry in a paper bag with shavings and weighed it in between. This way I could see if the wood was dry.
Let me know what you think of the bowl by giving it a thumbs up or down or leave a comment. Thank you!

🤗Thank you for watching my video.
That looks so pretty
Thank you Luie.
That is a beautiful little bowl. Great work.
Thank you 🤗
Not all is lost for my Plum wood as you can see! You did a great job Frank, it took time but that's OK. All good things take time!
How about a 'Chainsaw Saturday' somewhere in October if weather permits? (date still to be set.)
I have a lot of wood that needs cutting and it will be a good opportunity to get together one last time this year.
HansB is also invited and the Bosslady will provide catering. 😋
And feel free to bring Miss TinyWorkshop as well! We'll make a nice day out of it! 😎
It's nice that it went well with drying. It went faster than I expected.
A chainsaw day sounds great to me💪. I will send you an email.
Very nice
Thanks Doug!
Hi Frank, Gorgeous little bow and I love the beads as well.
You are now the second person I have seen mark the inside and outside of the bowl to determine the wall thickness available. It was how I was taught to do it.
Great video Frank. Take care. Cheers, Huw
Hi Huw. Marking the wall thickness makes it a lot easier. I don't have that much experience yet. Thanks for watching.
Very nice looking bowl, Frank! Take care. Dave
Hi Dave. Thanks a lot. And thank you for watching 🤗
Nice bowl Frank - lovely form and I really like the beading👍 The attention to the drying process was worth it eh ? No cracks ! Let me thank Leo too. Take care. -Mike😷
Thank you Mike. Nice that you still have time to watch during your moving. Leo had warned that plum can tear easily if it dries too quickly. I've done my best to make it as smooth as possible.
Take care!
@@TheTinyWorkshop I'm trying to keep up with my fav people like *you* Frank 👍😎 Moving is technically done - but it is now questions like Where is My Wiping Alcohol (meth spirits) ? Ugh. Or worse yet How Do I Mount Lights for the Lathe ? *Ugh Ugh* ... Such is life 😁
@@mpart_woodlathe-stuff Nobody said life is easy🤗. Good luck with whatever you have left to do.💪
Very nice looking bowl, Frank! The oil really brought out the rich color in the plum. I've never turned plum, but now I want to. lol Great job!
Thanks Mike. It was my first piece of plum and I was pleasantly surprised by the colors. It is definitely a favorite type of wood.
Hello Frank, I really enjoy watching the wood work and especially the turnings. I am always amazed at how beautiful a piece of wood looks when your done. the grain of the wood is beautiful. Love to see how you burn your logo into the wood. thank you so much for sharing. I am so glad you fond me so I could find you. 💕NonnaGrace
Welcome NonnaGrace. I'm glad you like my video. I'm sure there will be more video you'll like.
Frank.
As always very pleasant video, Frank 👍 I was feeling like I was there and carrying gouges in my hands.
When You were making rough turning I was worrying is some wood will left to You 😁😉 Hopefuly I could to see yellow spots on the bottom. Well done my friend 👍
Rav
I see what you mean Rav. The piece of wood was not flat on the split side. It was twisted slightly. Fortunately it turned out well. It ended up being a nice present for a birthday. Thanks for watching my friend.
Howdy Frank! Beautiful Piece and love the bead designs ya made on the outside it gives it a very nice look 👍
Thanks Kimsey. I'm going to experiment with this more often. I also think it turned out very nice.
Ten tweede, weer heel mooi gedaan..
A very unique product. congrats, interact with me. Thank you,
Thanks for watching. Much appreciated 🤗
