You can make it easier on yourself by just putting the 13 card stack at the bottom under the face up 10. Then you cut the pack, selected card goes on top, complete the cut putting the whole stack on top of the selected card. No pencil dot or counting cards is needed for this effect.

was also thinking the set up stack doesn't need to be same suit. just numerical order. maybe helps hide an inadvertent flash or inspection

Brilliant indeed- and as the set up hasn't been shown to the spectator ,you can use it again to do a trimph routine or simply do the same trick from table to table... 🤔
