My comment was for the magicians to ensure their Sy Stebbins deck was stacked correctly, not to show the spectators. I already had a Sy Stebbins deck and simply cut it to use for this trick. This was also a comment for Steve.

I have always been interested in magic for many years in particular card tricks. I have seen many and only perform a few. This is one that I will be adding to my list .... a very clever and smart trick
Absolutely brilliant, much appreciated for sharing, last week I attended my cousins funeral Christopher halliwell who passed away suddenly aged 52,so as a fitting way to remember the formula CHSD ,Christopher Halliwell sadly died.
@Steven Taputoro You are so wonderful for sharing the trick. It's a great one-- very impressive, no sleight of hand needed, and fairly easy to do. Great for a beginner like me. Thank you so much! (It would be easier to mark the red cards if they were in Ace-King order by suit with the corresponding number next to it.) Viewers: Pause at 5:01.
This is a FANTASTIC routine, Steven! Thank you so much for sharing it with the community. It's amazing how the combination of a stack and CHSD can produce an effect that will knock your audience over with amazement. I look forward to adding this to my repetoire.
I burst out laughing when the trick worked the first time, which I think is a great sign that a magic trick rocks. Thanks for the tutorial Steven that was brilliant.
Liking and commenting as requested, before you explain the trick. Here's my prediction of how it's done: the blue deck is arranged specially beforehand: each card is placed at a known position (the number of cards is 52 minus the number on its back away from the top of the deck); each card has a counterpart (they add up to 52 on their backs--5 of clubs had 33, 8 of hearts had 19). When you were pretending to be searching for the 5 of clubs, you were actually looking for the 8 of hearts first; I'm guessing the counterparts always add to 13 to make it easy to remember, and the suits are paired such that hearts and clubs go together. Then, when you're dealing cards down to "pick the place in the deck to put the 5" you're placing the 8 of hearts on top of it regardless where they choose (because it is on the bottom of the deck in your hand). Then it's only a matter of showmanship to pretend like it randomly ended up being next to the 19.
i bought a very similar trick from daniel ortiz a year ago. made me the coolest uncle ever. this one is even easier and maybe even more impressive! now i can keep the magic alive 😅
Nice trick. Quick tought and tips about the Stibbing. If you going throught face up , it's possible that more alert people might notice the red/black pattern. I have seen it before. So if you do it face down, you have to change the order but get the same result with a bigger build up 😊 thank for the share!
Thank you for sharing. I know a lot of tricks and stacked deck ones always seem a bit of a farce, but the beauty of this I think, is that you can shuffle the numbered one and therefore you can get away with the blue one being stacked. My questions are how the Hell does it work? and who the Hell discovers these things? Genius!
I absolutely love this trick , I have used it loads with all my family and friends and people down the gym lol , it gets great reactions , I still can’t understand how it works , the blue deck is set up , but the red cards can be shuffled they can pick any card and place it anywhere in the deck and then everytime the card is in the same position as the blue deck , just blows my mind but I love it 😀👍
While the effect is actually great, the difficult part is when the card you determine by adding three to the one that was selected comes a lot later in the red deck after the selected one. I currently don't see me convincingly look for this card, and find and place it at the bottom after I already separated out the named card - by simply claiming 'look, all cards are different'. This may work many times with enough practice - but clearly will also fail sometimes and look suspicious at least in an instant repeat.
This is great, I'm just getting in to performing for people after learning and practicing just for myself. I really enjoy card magic but lack confidence. Thanks for sharing, I might have to do this one at the Christmas party if I can get the confidence to do some tricks
An idea for you guys (using a table): - Spectators shuffle the red deck and name a card. - You spread the cards on a table and tell spectators to touch and take their chosen card. - While they search for their card, you locate "your" card and then cut the deck in the desired position. Tip: While spreading the cards you touch every single card in the table, trying to "help" them locating their card, but in fact you are locating your card and preparing yourself for cutting the deck.
@@martinplace4748 maybe better to do like I end up doing. I spread the cards on the table and after the spectator removes their card, I split them in the spot of the correct card, and ask them to gather up the piles. They didn't suspect a thing.

Great trick ! Thx. I have a question, though : every time I have customised a deck like this (Detour de Force, for example) using Sharpies or any other marker, the ink on each card's back has eventually made an orange mirror mark on the cards' faces, even after letting them dry for a day or two before assembling the deck. So, please, if anyone knows a method to avoid this problem, I am interested. Thanks a million.
Yup, creative, impossible, clean, fun, and so worth the set-up! I'm adding a steal of chased card for spec to shuffle even more or just shuffling myself and retaining btm card. Is that overkill? hahaha! I love practicing tricks that fool myself!!! You made a lot of people happy by sharing your gems with us! A part of you will be taken around the world! this one reached the land of Aloha in Hawaii! wishing you a magical life!
Why not to use Si Stebins order in the blue deck? That would require to write different numbers in the back of the cards of the red deck, but will allow to continue a routine with the blue deck. What you think?
You forced the 19 on top of the chosen card. When you were looking for the 5 of clubs you selected the partner card that has the number for the 5 of clubs on the back of it and ensured it was the bottom card (when face up, top when face down) so that when you place the rest of the deck on the 5 of clubs it will be the next card.
It is a very interesting trick endeed. But strictly speaking, it is not an ACAAN trick : to be so, a card as well as a number should be a free choice. It is not the case in this trick, as only the name of the card is a free choice. The number seems to be a free choice, but is not, it is forced by the other card 3 ranks up in the Si Stebbins stack used as a key card when compleeting the cut.

Wow, wonderful trick. Would you please show hot you stacked the Blue cardsk shown at timestamp 5:06. I tried to use the Si Stebbins stack method and it does not give me that order as shown by you. Thank you.
Don't need a tutorial. It's simple. You know where the card is in the blue pack. You know the face card of the number 19 card and you go until you reach it, place your 5 of club. You can get there by laying down cards one by one or multiple cards so that you can get to the predetermined #19 card. It can be before or after, but you lay the 19 down either way.

No principle. You can mark it anyway but blue cards should be stacked in that planned order as well.

You use Si Stebbins to determine the card to use from the number deck, but the other deck is in no particular order (other than it makes sure the numbers always work).
