very interesting video wako - a very expensive looking collection. razor sharp mirror polished knives look amazing very hard to pick a favourite knife from them. nice skinning technique too :) thank you
Thankyou very much for showing japanese knives, thankyou also for your friend for letting us see a portion of his collection. I enjoyed seeing the removal of the stag. An excellent videoI was very interested in the types and characteristics of the steels. Eric
Thanks to you and your friend for taking the time to show us some interesting blades. I really enjoy this kind of video where people show us the things they use and the way they go about life. Widening our realities is a great gift.
I didn't know it. It does it as you say when I turn the dial all the way to the other end. It works in two different magnifications. It takes focus just at two points on the dial, 30x and 210x. I first meet this kind of lens. Its dial works for forcusing and changing magnification at tha same time. I am much surprised now. I can give knife people a general view of the edge at first and when I find a problem I can magnify it much larger. It's for $100 and works more than expected. Thank you!
Really interesting to see how Japanese knife design is quite influenced by American design, you can see both Randal and loveless in there. But always with unique variations and mixed with some obviously local designs. Extremely interesting to watch, thank you friend for charing this with us and thanks to you for filming and charing this with us as well!
Coming from Ohio, we know here that our Japanese brothers make some of the best steel in the world. Yours is a long a proud tradition of craftsmanship. I, like you Mr. Virtuovice prefer Western steel however. Thank you for your videos.
I do think as you do. He is a real knife lover and collects only Japanese custom knives. His location is close to Seki city and Takefu city where many custom knife makers are working. He has never said about the price of his knives and I have never asked too. He runs a company and will have money nearly endlessly. He is a kind of supporter of some famous custom knife makers and always go to Seki Knife Show annually to get new knives. He is also the biggest stag handle supplyer to custom makers.
Very interesting sheath, Silver 3, or Thunder Guard, if I heard the name correctly. As with a sheath from a another collection from one of your previous videos, it has the metal reinforcing brackets. This time 2 of the bracket had a small loop for carrying purposes. Very practical. The sheath is boldly thick. The belt loop was recessed. And with the great thickness, the leather is stout enough to lock in the knife when inserted into the sheath. Excellent design.
Thanks again Mr.virtuovice for this great video thanks also to Mr.Sato.That is one beautifull collection of knives. Cowry X steel is also used on some higher end Fallkniven knives,if you are interested in that particular steel, go to there webside. You can reed about the steel.
how do you hunt them? shotguns with slug/buckshot? bow hunting? are there permits and is getting one difficult? can foreigners hunt? sorry if this is a lot to ask, but I'm a deer hunter and definitely a "knife person", but I'm moving to Japan this summer and I thought I had to give all of that up.
I always try to do it. But when I have a friend with me, he is always not a good cameraman for me and I kind of hesitate to take his shooting being afraid that he gets nervous about it. I renewed my tripod to a taller one and hope it will help me to take more exciting scenes in my solo hunting. Thanks.
I have another Mr. Itou's knife from him which has damascus steels for its sides. Its core is R2 which is pretty durable. Its tip took bend a bit and I sent it back to him. He passed it to Mr. Itou at the knife show and Mr. Itou sent it back directly to me after the restoration. Its tip is a bit rounder and much nicer now for the actual deer dressing. His one has a rounder tip too as you can see in this video. My one appears in my video "Deer hunting knives #57". Thanks.
The modern 'Damascus' is just another name for "pattern welded steel"; it's a process, not a type of steel. The quality of the damascus will entirely depend on the steels used inside. Japanese damascus will typically have a Aogami or Shirogami center. The old damascus that's actually a type of steel is unavailable as the recipe was lost through time, except for some rare samples in museums, though there is a modern version of it that some makers use. It's referred to nowadays as 'Wootz steel'.
We cannot sharpen Kitano edge. He send it back when it is needed. He knows Mr. Kitano in person and other custom knife makers as well. So it seems like his regular way. Thanks.
Wako ... Do you own any damascus steel knifes ? If so what is your opion of that steel .. I have 3 and i find it hard to keep a long lasting edge on them ? would you ever consider field testing a damascus steel knife ? I would very much like to see you sharpen that type of steel .. Thanks
Japan Knife Direct (.com) shows some Hattori knives. Some of them look like Fallkniven TK2 and are made of Cowry X Damascus like Fallkniven Idun Cowry X Damascus. I know all Fallkniven knives are made in Japan. So I suspect Hattori is making them. Thanks.
Yes. It was definitely too long for my deer dressing. And it was light for the size and not very good for chopping. Its handle has less ergonomics IMO. Thanks.
I have a usb microscope that looks like yours. One end of the magnification scale is approx. 20x and the other side is approx. 400x. You can get more magnification if you turn the dial all the way to the other end of the scale.
If I wanted to buy one of these knifes is there a website or contact to have one of these made I’d love to add a Japanese hunting knife to my collection I’ve heard Japan has some of the best steel and craftsmanship in the world
CPM S30V isn't normally a chippy steel when properly heat treated to its preferred HRC of 58-59. Anything harder than that (60+) will make it a chippy steel.
Hello knife people! :) Great collection, beautiful and high quality knifes, yet out of respect for his friend (I assume) he didn't give a single knife a title of "a very good knife" ;) However, this guy is a knife enthusiast rarely seen here..... Great video mr. virtuovice, keep up the good work!
that's interesting, is it because they were well taken care of in the past which resulted in the over abundance in the deer population or is it not a very popular activity in general?
We have no limit to hunt deer to reduce the overpopulated deer to protect our forestry and agriculture and to reduce heavy traffic accidents due to deer. Thanks.
We have overpopulated deer here. There are two reasons. One is we cultivated our lands too much to pasture and still have much forest in mountains. So deer have much food and much land to hide in at the same time. The other is we have few hunters against many deer. It's because of our peace education and our strict gun law. Until 10 years ago we were allowed to shoot only a single stag a day. They were protected. But now we hunt them limitlessly including does. The policy changed completely.
OMG! the first three knives are made by Hatori Hanzo, they must be the sharpest knives ever to be made by a human being, not to mention they must be priceless. if that man should ever encounter God in his journeys, then God will get cut!.
Mainly rifles. For 10 years we need to use only shotguns and slug ammo befor we have rifles. Bow hunting is illegal here. Foreigners cannot hunt here unless they have a right of permanent residence in Japan. If you get it, you can have a gun and huting license after having some tests. Thanks.

The seventh knife you reviewed is gorgeous. Actually, they're all gorgeous.
I think the magnification on the USB microscope is good enough, Wako. It is a lot sharper video than before. Very nice. Thank you for sharing.
As would be expected it looks like there are many talented knife makers in Japan. Very nice collection your friend has.
I do think as you do. He is a real knife lover and collects only Japanese custom knives. His location is close to Seki city and Takefu city where many custom knife makers are working. Gorgeous collection and thank you for translating it to English.
We appreciate it..... Arigato.
thank you for sharing!could you show all his Kitano knives?
As a secondary to that, S30V seems to perform MUCH better (in terms of chipping resistance) if the edge is totally mirror polished.
I found it just before from some guy's suggestion. It worked as you say actually. Thank you!
Graet video! Many Thanks!!!
It's very interesting to me - how does your friend sharpen Kitano edge???
13:54 wow 😍
21:34 omg I'm in love
23:33 I love the aysymetric grind , one side with 3 transition. WOW and 20 years old! When video made!
Your friends collection is very nice. He has good taste as well.
Very beautiful and unique collection!

Hello Mr Sato !! Fantastic Collection of Blades!! Thank you. Cheers ;-))

have you ever used or owned a Moki knife? they wouldn't be good for deer hunting but their bird and trout knife looks pretty nice for fishing.
We cannot sharpen Kitano edge. He send it back when it is needed. He knows Mr. Kitano in person and other custom knife makers as well. So it seems like his regular way. Thanks.

What a beautiful collection!
You're right, there is only CPM-S30V. Although there is a 154CM and CPM-154CM.

The Hatori knives are awesome, very nice
I always enjoy your vids thank you for this one

great video Mr. Virtuovice
Chuck
Sir, have you ever tried a knife from Habilis Bushtools? What is your opinion on them?
On your mac you can use that microscope in the photo booth program also.
Do you have experience with Kiku Matsuda knives. He uses stainless steel OU31.
Very interesting steel and very interesting knives.
If I wanted to buy one of these knifes is there a website or contact to have one of these made I’d love to add a Japanese hunting knife to my collection I’ve heard Japan has some of the best steel and craftsmanship in the world
oh my that 7th knife was beautiful!
CPM S30V isn't normally a chippy steel when properly heat treated to its preferred HRC of 58-59. Anything harder than that (60+) will make it a chippy steel.
Wako, S30V is exclusive to the CPM process. There is no non-CPM version of S30V.
Wako.. the magnifier has 2 steps.. normal, and high magnification.. just keep turning the wheel higher until you get to 400 on the dial
that's interesting, is it because they were well taken care of in the past which resulted in the over abundance in the deer population or is it not a very popular activity in general?
We have no limit to hunt deer to reduce the overpopulated deer to protect our forestry and agriculture and to reduce heavy traffic accidents due to deer. Thanks.
I can agree. Thanks.
yes its true i think that difference is because diferent heat treating...

what are the japanese laws surrounding hunting, I ask this because isn't 5 stags a little too much?
great water pattern very good looking blades
Awesome video!
No. I like rusty spots or patina made naturally. Thanks.
Great vid! Who's your friend!? That's like $100,000 in knives there
very nice and very good knives!!!
Wow, beautiful knives...!
No, I don't. My car seats are genuine leather. And small items like a wallet are leather. But I have never made a product from my deer fur. Thanks.
He has at least one. Do a search on his RUclips user page for "Mr. Ito" or "Ito knife."
I didn't know it. Thank you!
I recently buy a Takeshi Saji's nata. As soon as i make a video i'll show you.
there is also a CPM-D2 and normal D2 by all accounts the CPM versions are noticeably better.
thank you
I agree. They take American designs largely. Thanks.
Thanks.
omg... i loooove this knife with the cord
wowowowow
at 10:00 what company/ blade smith makes that knife?
He gifted me the cord wrapped knife. I will resharpen it soon. If possible I will make a video. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing!
Indeed. a lot of the early S30V was pretty bad in terms of HT. Took a couple years for the producers to get it down.
Ever use ESEE 6 before?
No, I haven't.
Phải nói là rất đẹp!
I confirmed it. It can be better. Thanks.
thank you sir
thanks. good video
Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
i am quite sure s30v is the same as cpm-s30v
No, I don't. My tase is rather for western knives. Thanks.
Asai Marukatsu a blade smith.
very cool,from uk

Perhaps your friend would like to donate a couple of dozen knives for a "give away" for all of your RUclips fans? Roll the dice please.
