  • In this Quick-Class, we show how fix the Zoom Dial when your Zoom Dial isn't Zooming on the Mavic 3 drone from DJI.
Several of our viewers have reported that the Zoom Dial (the Camera Control Dial) doesn't zoom when in photo mode. But, it works in video mode.
This video covers the RC Pro and the RC-N1 controller on the Original Mavic 3, the Mavic 3 Cine and the Mavic 3 Pro. Some of what is shown may also apply to the Mavic 3 Classic and Enterprise editions. But we didn't test on those drones and they are not the focus of this tutorial.
We first provide a quick level-set about zooming and the cameras on the Mavic 3. We’ll show the differences between the original and pro versions. Next, we demonstrate the problem that was reported regarding the Camera Control Dial not zooming as expected... We’ll reproduce the issue. Next, we’ll show how to solve it… In fact, we’ll go over all of the ways to zoom in both photo and video modes. Finally, we show how to reset customizing the Camera Control Dial on the RC Pro… just in case that's why zoom isn’t working as expected.

Great information Jerry, and thanks for sharing this. I discovered this awhile back, explore mode is your friend when it comes to zooming.

You got it Ron! I know this has frustrated a lot of people. Not sure why DJI changed it... But, I'm sure they had their reasons. 😎

Much obliged to you yet again. So simple when you know how: Photo - Explore - Zoom. I think I'll give the stylus a pass. I like to keep things as simple as possible and having another item to keep track of and manipulate while flying is a little awkward (at least for me).

But can you change the speed of the scroll wheel for the zoom? That's the issue I'm encountering; while filming, it doesn't feel smooth and slow like I want it; the speed of the zoom is too quick. I know you can change the flight controls of the drone, but can you adjust the zoom speed?

I’m not aware of any way to change the speed of the zoom wheel. But, it is variable depending on how hard you crank on it. I personally haven’t found that I have needed to adjust it. I’ll need to check, but I believe can also zoom from the touch screen. Maybe you’ll have more control that way.

Zoom not working on Mini 4 Pro either. Here is something not obvious in the documents: Digital Zoom for photos in 48MP is disabled. Digital Zoom does work, up to 2X for 12MP photos.

Do you have the same problem on the classic? Did our solution work? We just don’t have any way to verify.

I assume you have focused it. I don’t have the M3 Pro, but tapping on the screen on the subject will focus and set exposure. There’s probably a setting for auto exposure too.
That’s all I can think of. If not that, give DJI support a try.
