  • The cooling energy of chickweed (Stellaria media) can help to bring relief from hot flashes and other “hot” conditions, such as some infections. Ubiquitous, mineral-rich, and deeply nourishing, chickweed cools and moistens, moving heat and stagnation gently, yet powerfully.
Join me as I discuss chickweed’s many gifts with Kat Maier RH, (AHG). The founder and director of Sacred Plant Traditions, Kat has trained many clinical herbalists who have gone on to to begin other schools, apothecaries or open practices. Her training as a Physician’s Assistant allows her to weave the language of biomedicine into her practice of traditional energetic herbalism. You’ll also receive Kat’s recipe for Meno-ease, an herbal tincture which she describes as one of her most reliable remedies to help with cooling temps from hot flashes.
    Listen in for:
► How chickweed works on boundaries to help heal conditions such as cysts or fibroids
► How patterns of nature inform the practice of herbalism
► Kat’s easy-to-follow words of advice for people just beginning to work with herbal medicine
Here is one of my favorite takeaways from our conversation:
“When you learn the energetics, you can work with plants on so many different levels… I really love just taking one plant and really seeing how far we can explore with it.” (Timestamp: 44:40)
It was a huge pleasure to spend time with Kat and I’m excited to share our conversation with you!

I made the tincture per the Meno-Ease recipe card. I just strained it today and took the first dose. STRONG!!! I have just one question as far as the measurements. The .5 part measurement of Dandelion root threw me off. Is .5 half of the 1 part? How does .5 measurement work? I googled it but could not find any info that answered it for me.
I hope you see this. Thanks in advance

I’ve heard so many times chickweed referred to as a healing herb but what a deep and meaningful explanation Kat offered.

Thank you very much for this knowledge dear Rosalee and Kat . I already have chickweed supplement at home but I don't take it consistently due to its property of weight loss coz I'm already petite and slim, however I'm dealing with uterine cysts so in order to shrink it chickweed how much do I need to take it in a day mg /capsules I weigh under 100lbs and for how long? Thanks a lot in advance! :)

So glad you enjoyed this episode! Chickweed is fabulous but it's not some miracle weight loss drug. People take it all the time without losing weight. In your case though, for the best benefit, I would work directly with a practitioner who can help you find what will work best for you. For example, I would never recommend chickweed as a capsules. I've nothing against capsules, but chickweed isn't an herb I would take as a capsule. Anyway, there's lots to know! More than you can fit into a RUclips comment. On my website I have a list of practitioners that I recommend. Just visit Herbs with Rosalee .com and do a search for "practitioners". Hope that helps to point you in the right direction!

I have some property in a remote area of the mountains. I have been spending a lot of time learning what is edible and what has herbal uses. I really enjoy your explanations. I am a seed saver and love to plant herbs and the wild edibles that are native to my area. The Native Americans used to use them for medicine. I also am a real fan of essential oil’s and incorporate them into my health routine. Thanks for all the wisdom you impart to us.

Thank you. Long story short, 6 years ago I started a journey of herbalism, grew into shamanic healing. Life crisis resulted in discovering medical Qigong. I have been struggling with reconciling east and west cosmology re elements. I look forward to reading your book based on this video.

Rosalee, I heard Kat mention kudzu. Have you done a RUclips on Kudzu? I’ve heard that one can eat it, like add to soup, stew, spaghetti sauce. What health benefits does kudzu have? TIA

I'm pretty sure I've seen information that cows like to munch on it, too, and that it's somehow good for them. Might be in one of my Rodale books.
