I stumbled upon this rare magic on the last day of 2021. That I needed an infusion of some of the best that humanity can offer at that moment was without question. The evocation of the ancient as well as the contemporary, no false binary here. The roots are centuries deep, tapping communal memory, and yet the endless cycle of fearful worry and joyous relief feels as current as the headlines. Our first harmonic interval, contemporary dissonances, and the trailing undertow of the age-old tritone. The simple and yet evocative use of gesture. The timeless unwrapping and wrapping again of shawls. And who wouldn't want that glorious 'welcome home' for ones own, especially when the embrace is led by your radiant soloist, whose vocal warmth and welcome is only matched by a smile that will stay with me for many a day. And then the sad leave-taking and the return of dread, that too a part of the old story. The performance for me was the music but magically that as well. What a way to start a new year! I included the link to this in my New Years Day missive of glad tidings and best wishes to all my friends and family across Canada. And, suffice it to say, you now have a whole raft of new fans. And I'm one of them! Thank you so very much.

När jag började att lyssna på stycket undrade jag "vart skall detta ta vägen" men... Stycket är helt magiskt och sjungs ofattbart vackert av såväl solisten som av kören! I stycket har Bengt verkligen tagit nytta av den lite udda stora akustiken som är i Sofia Kyrka. Ännu en gång helt FANTASTISKT!

It’s not odd acoustics. The voices purposely enter in a way that it makes it sound like echo. But it is not reverb generated by the walls, but an illusion done by each singer overlapping just in the right sequence ;) . Also the sea sound it’s not improvised . It’s rehearsed to perfection , such that it looks like te real sea
For those who are not Swedish: the lyric means “TRILO” calling for their husband standing by the sea, calling out for him ”HÄR ÄR HAN” means “here he is” “NÄRA LAND” means ”close to land” 🩵

I’m not a big fan of gestures and some sort of choreography when performing a choir piece. That being said, the vocals of this choir are very good. Beautiful voice with the soloist at the beginning.

@Martijn Then you won't enjoy watching African choirs. Gestures and dancing is what we do and it comes naturally. So I really enjoyed this
